Oscar Taveras dies in auto accident

FidoMcCokefiend
I thought I read somewhere it was like a .26 which is just ridiculously high. If he had survived the crash and his GF didn't; he probably would be looking at a long prison sentence for that. Such a young kid to throw it all away like that. You have money; get a cab.

As others have said, what a shame and a waste. A completely avoidable tragedy that will change countless lives because of one night's bad decisions. Though I know it is easy to armchair quarterback, I just will never understand how a guy like this (or anyone for that matter) cannot pick up his phone and call a cab or a friend to come pick him up if feels the need to drink himself to oblivion.

I can completely understand how someone who is already drunk (especially a man) would think some combination of the following, regardless of the cost of a cab:

1. I can make it home myself

2. I won't get caught

3. I don't want to deal with the hassle of having to come back to get my car tomorrow

Of course, absent from this list is any rational weighing of these thoughts with the potential severity of the consequences of attempting to drive home.

Anyone dumb enough to drive himself to a place to get drunk without having a predetermined plan to get home is unlikely to make good decisions after he is drunk.

I shudder to think of what could have happened due to all the dumb things I did at that age. Not condoning it mind you. It's just people in their early 20's tend to view themselves as indestructible. Sad waste of two human lives.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

5 times the legal limit? Holy cripes. Even though the legal limit there is a lot lower, I just don't understand how anybody gets behind the wheel of a car after having that much to drink.

What a waste of a life. Taveras just threw his life away, and unfortunately, he took his girlfriend's with his. Stupid stupid stupid.

There are three things America will be known for 2000 years from now when they study this civilization: the Constitution, jazz music and baseball. They're the three most beautifully designed things this culture has ever produced. Gerald Early

It's foolish to get behind the car drunk. At the same time, he's in the D-R driving around a 2014 Chevy Camaro new and likely paid for with one of his recent paychecks(he hasn't made the big money yet)

So I can see in his mind depending on the area he's in, not wanting to leave behind a car of that magnitude to get a ride. Only to wake up the next morning to go get it and see it gone or stripped.

Just a young sould who finished his 1st MLB season and let himself loose out on the town. Good chance he was showing off that new car as part of his night. The GF 18yrs old She's not going to be any smarter when it comes to alcohol and what her body can handle nor Oscar's.

Everyone here has to have a relative/friend they know who's been in a wreck due to alcohol. I've had more than a handful that I can think of and somehow they managed not to die or kill someone.

I learned by watching my brother attempt to reverse park a car in our driveway when I was 18 and watched him hit the side of our house/ the neighbor's fence and the side of the garage in the process. We're talking a matter of 30-35feet of distance. That was my wakeup call at how pathetic you can become at driving a car while being drunk. Some learn, Some Live and then learn. Others die in the process of their first learning experience.
