Minor League Transactions - 2014-2015 Offseason

JohnBriggs, didn't that sort of happen with Hector Gomez? After never experiencing offensive success in AA or A+, he was promoted to AAA last year and had a breakout year? Not saying it's common, but just saying your statement was inaccurate

The Brewers have released IF Michael Garza, IF Alfredo Rodriguez, and RHP Seth Harvey.

***

Garza (recently turned 25, 20th round, Georgetown) and Rodriguez (25 in May, 17th round, Maryland) were draftmates from the 2012 class, and have been teammates at Helena, Wisconsin, and Brevard County over the past three seasons (Garza split his rookie campaign between Helena and the Timber Rattlers). Both proved flexible defensively, with Garza spending most of his time in the corner infield and Rodriguez primarily up the middle.

In the deflating Brevard climate, Garza posted a .286/.328/.369 2014 line, miscast as a first baseman. Rodriguez has a career .362 OBP and was at .255/.341/.319 last season.

27-year-old RHP Seth Harvey did very well for a 37th round pick (2010, Washington State). From toiling in the Maryvale heat in 2010 to spending all of his age 23 season in Helena to making his way to Wisconsin and Brevard County by 2013, Harvey fanned 179 in 144 pro innings, allowing only 129 hits, with a little rough 4.1 walk ratio (65 total).

Harvey underwent Tommy John surgery in June of 2013 and worked his way back late in 2014 in Maryvale and then Wisconsin.

Seth has already posted a classy goodbye tweet.

We wish all three well in the future, whether they choose to pursue other baseball opportunities or not.

I definitely see Harvey re-emerging somewhere down the road. He had great numbers, although I can't say I ever saw him. Disappointing for Garza as he seemed to be very much in the organization's plans early on

These guys best bet might be finding an indy league team.
