2015 MLB Mock Draft Version 2

ANDREW KRAUSE

15. MILWAUKEE BREWERS

MIKE NIKORAK – RHP – Stroudsburg (Pa.) HS

Nikorak has had an uneven spring with varying reports on his velocity. Still, he’s a physical righthanded pitcher that flashes two plus offerings in a fastball clocked at 95-plus mph and a sharp breaking ball. In addition, as with many pitchers from the Northeast he hasn’t logged many innings and scouts and player development officials alike tend to value such malleable high-ceiling talents.

I'd be okay with this pick, it's always hard to know exactly what you're getting with players from the north. He was covered in the May 7th draft pack and this scouting blog.

15. MILWAUKEE BREWERS

CHRIS BETTS – C – Wilson (Calif.) HS

Put the Brewers on the list of teams in this range targeting college arms and high school bats, linked to players such as Kyle Funkhouser and Cody Ponce in addition to Chris Betts and Garrett Whitley. Betts recently put on a show in a pre-draft workout at Miller Park which has helped other eventual Brewers' picks in recent years.

I'd rather him than Funkhouser that's for sure...

I'll take it.

At least there's linked mention of Whitley to keep my hopes up.

Betts isn't good to me. He'll be whiffville. Had lazy catcher about him. Stiff and trying to catch ball vs blocking ones in dirt. And his arm strength to 2b looked weak.

Ponce, he's of concern for me to stick in rotation, but at least has some talent. Could turn out better than my thinking.

Funkhauser just not a rotation guy and drafting a Bullpen guy who maybe makes it quicker is a waste when this team has a terrible outlook next 3years.

I would be happy to add Chris Betts to the organization, from what I have seen he appears to have a keen eye at the plate with an excellent combination of hit tool and power.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

Could Betts be every bit as bad as Coulter was behind the plate? It's possible, but I like hitters described in the terms (and I'm paraphrasing) of being "one of the best hitters in the draft class". In the first round the hit tool is incredibly important to me, just like control is to a pitcher... after the first round I'm mostly concerned with a standout out tool or overall level of production but in the first round let's get guys who can put the ball in play or already throw strikes.

If he stinks behind the plate you can always give him a shot at 3rd, or the OF, or 1B... it's not like we have a plethora of prospect options at any one position other than SS right now.

Upside, upside, upside! Mostly I don't care where (though I'll probably always lean pitching in the 1st), just bring talented players into the organization.

Maybe it's just me but I'd rather lose with a prospect laden squad like this year's Timber Rattlers than win with the 2012 version. Prospect wise on that 2012 team Roger's was always fringey, Gagnon was the only pitcher in the rotation who had a legit shot of sticking there, and Rivera had an all or nothing approach at the plate who was more potential than substance. They were fun as a team, but not on an individual level which is really what matters from a MLB standpoint. As the cream rises the AA and AAA teams should win more than they have, but our 2 levels A ball will probably not be all that good.

With all due respect, there's nothing lazy about Chris Betts. And he has one of the best arms behind the plate for this year's draft.

Just my view, from the videos I watched. The throws in front of scouts, his arm strength/speed was higher. But accuracy I'd say 1in 8 maybe was on target with chance to get out. If he wants to be accurate it comes at the expense of velocity thrown to 2nd.

The HS footage I seen my opinion on him being lazy was apparent. He had a few pitches in the dirt and his crouch never moved to block the ball.Only tried to catch it.

I go more opinion on the game footage than the practice footage. Same thing with the bat.

If I'm wrong so be it. I've said, amateur scouting view numerous times. But in that view, this is what I've seen.
