Why not just keep Jeffress in? Duke sucks too.

Jeffress was at 18 pitches so likely couldn't make it through the inning

And 3 lefties up in a row. Ron would be stupid to let Jeffress pitch, but then again this is Ron we're talking about.

Did I miss the part where righties can't get lefties out? Dukes trash.

"This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains." Think about that for a while.

Here comes a single from Braun - the anti clutch

I know it's popular to bag on Braun and his thumb injury as certainly caused him to be less-than-Braun-like this year, but really? If he were to have gotten a base hit in extra innings, you'd mock him for being "anti-clutch?" Like a guy sucks if he can't dial up a homer on demand?

+1000. League average the last I checked is a .700 OPS. Braun, in a down year, is around .800. What a bum. Some would probably say he's been struggling for a month or better. Just an awful hitter.

I'm not of the 'bag on Braun' variety, but fwiw his OPS since the AS break (heading into tonight's game) is .707. He's been pretty rough for a while now.

Ok - thanks for that. I still think a guy throwing 95+ negates a lot of the L/R match-up advantages. And 18 pitches is not a lot. Your mileage may vary.

18-25 pitches is the typical workload for a short reliever. Going over 30 usually invites disaster.

Excellent analysis. Let me counter with this.

LHB have a .917 OPS against Jeffress this season.

LHB have a .574 OPS against Duke this season.

Also Duke being trash is based upon 8 innings in August

At least compare him to only RF's - where he would be 12th / 10th / 6th in AVG / OBP / SLG, respectively. He has not been that drastically above league average in getting base hits or getting on base. And no one is calling him a bum, but he has been pretty average, unlike his past.
