1982 Medallion Collection

gypcasino
Anyone going to be collecting these. According to an ad in the JS, they will be available every day between April 23rd through May 18th. There's going to be a coupon in the paper every day which you redeem at participating retailers. I'm not sure which ones. It doesn't say. Plus there's going to be an album you can put them in.

If it's anything like the Packers medallions from a few years ago, they'll have a make up day a few times throughout this...

I'd love to collect all these, but it's around 70 dollar investment, and then you gotta buy journals everyday if you dont subscribe...sure it'd be cool to have, but will the value ever increase?

I'd rather use the money to go to games or something I guess

They're giving out the album next sunday at miller park. i hope they sell it retail as well, but I doubt it. So you don't have to redeem the coupons everyday do you? You can redeem them the next day or later right?

There was a coupon in the Sunday JS for a free album. I've got two extras that I grabbed at yesterday's game if anybody wants one. As far as saving up the coupons & redeeming them later I'm going to ask today when I go to Pick N Save or Walgreens.

Yeah, I'll try and ask my manager at Walgreens today as well if he knows anything about it (doubtful http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif ) I got the Cooper one, it's pretty cool looking. I'm just imagining having all 23 and then framing the album, I think that'll be pretty cool.

Is there no (or not much) point to trying to collect these outside southeast Wisconsin? Because the medallions sound mildly interesting, and I remember the '82 crew well enough for it to be meaningful; but not if I have to come to Milwaukeeland for each medallion.
Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I like them, I must be in the minority http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif

I'm not sure if you can save up and buy later, but I do know we sold out of our stock of 30 before I even got there at 2:00 so I don't know how many places will even have leftovers after it's all said and done.

I really like the cardboard display. With the tri-fold opened and all the coins in, I think it'll look nice in a frame. At least I hope...

Yeah, I stopped in at the Walgreens by my house (one of about 12 within a five mile radius) around 1:15 and there were only two or three left. And the guy said that was it. There's some sort of make up coupon on certain days but I'm not sure how that's handled.

Interesting. I didn't hear about that.

I did stop at BP on the way home to get an extra medallion (maybe I'll make two sets and try my luck selling one on ebay, I don't know yet) and it seemed like maybe they got a lot more than we did. They had at least 15 or so left, and I don't know, they could have had more in the back

In Saturday's paper, I believe, you will get a "make up" coupon to purchase any you might have missed.

Frankly, I was really disappointed in my Cooper Coin. I should have guessed after seeing the collectors booklet (the really thin cardboard being handed out at the game). I think the coins are really cheap. They are smaller than I thought. They have no real weight to them.

I was really hoping for a quality coin collection. After seeing how junky I thought this one looked - I might get Molitor and Yount, but that would be all.

I am torn. I think the Cooper coin looks kind of nice, but I agree it is pretty small. At first I thought it was just some plastic. The BP I got mine at had them sitting out on the counter. The envelope had a price of $2.99 on it, so I am unsure why you need the coupon.

(3x5 card for perspective)

I think the coupon is just a ploy to get you to buy the paper.

Yes I agree. I'm sure some cashiers are more diligent than others in checking but I don't think it would be too hard to buy one without the coupon. Like etbball said, they're just in a small display on the counter with a price of $2.99 on them.
