Some teams get a good offensive spark when they fire their hitting coach and replace him with their bench coach. Oh, wait. Can we just can both Narrons? If that won't work, let's at least see more Parra and Maldonado more than once a week.

Which are better numbers than what Segura has on the season overall. Again, he'll see the Pitchers more, he will do better than what has shown for his career vs. Lefties because his numbers for his career are based 66% on LH RPs. And his success vs. LHP is vs. LH SPs.

The team won't just eat Weeks' Contract and dump him to give Scooter the chance, it's a moot point anyway. Weeks has 0 Value on the team after being the RH side of a 2b platoon. He adds Nothing else to the Roster.

Scooter OPS'd over .600 in the Minors vs LHP as shown. Is he really incapable of getting better as he sees more ABs vs. LH Starters? We'll get our chance to find out next season what Scooter can do vs. LHP, But I'd bet it's far better than you and Marked even think possible.

Don't get me wrong I like Scooter, but generally when you struggle in the minors you don't figure out when you get to the bigs because the competition is much tougher. Not sure what point you are trying to make with the Segura comment. We are talking 2B platoon with Weeks right?

You're right that is better than what Segura has done this year. The difference is Segura did that against major league pitching, Scooter's numbers came against minor league pitching. That's a pretty big distinction.

His current major league OPS against lefties is 307 in an admittedly small sample. I'd hope he can get better because it would be hard to get much worse. Very best case scenario he could maybe match his minor league numbers against lefties at some point down the road in the majors. I'd rather just platoon him myself and take the better production.

It works this season. But I will be very Annoyed(not strong enough but won't post more vulgar) if we get a RHB that only plays 2b next season to Platoon with Scooter. If we find a capable Utility INF that can approach anywhere close to above .700OPS vs. LHP next season fine. But to just send them up there to maybe approach .700OPS, is a friggin waste of a Roster spot if they only play 2b. Just let Scooter OPS .600s vs them, he offers so much more value seeing more ABs vs. RHP anyway. It's really not acceptable to me that they waste 2 roster spots to play 2b. The only reason is due to the 12mil they owe towards Weeks. Weeks isn't "Pounding" LHP for his part vs. LHP. He's walking a thin line on what's acceptable for his part of the platoon and what's not. And as is, when he's barely covering his part of the Platoon with the Bat while offering the worse end defensively, Just use Scooter full-time.

Use the OPS numbers of Weeks but ignore his Defensive inability while providing those numbers. If Scooter is a .600OPS LH vs LH bat how much worse does that make him (WAR-wise) vs. Weeks .768OPS bat+Defense?

I also get on the thought that his Minors numbers should be our base line of best-case scenario vs. LHP. Since the ML Pitchers must be better than what he faced in the Minors. Only thing is, his numbers are better in the Majors than vs. the Minors to this point. Why so? Why vs. ML Pitching are they better?

So why not see him improve upon his LHP numbers?

In the minors he had 1,042 plate appearances vs. righties and 477 vs. lefties. So a little over 2-1 ratio of R vs. L.

In the majors he has had 502 plate appearances vs. righties and 79 vs. lefties. So a little over a 6-1 ratio of R vs. L.

The reason his major league numbers are better is precisely because of how heavily he has been platooned. His overall minor league numbers were dragged down by a higher ratio of PA's against lefties.

This

It's not hating on Scooter to simply state the facts about how he's fared against lefthanded pitchers both through his minor league career and so far in the majors. The numbers are bad on both fronts, but he's been great vs righties.

FWIW, he's far from alone in this. Plenty of major league hitters over the years for whatever reason have struggled a lot when facing righties or lefties and thus for the betterment of their team, using a platoon was a smarter option than having that player go out there and make a ton of outs.

brewcrewdue80, good level headed thinking

Wthout looking it up... I 'think' Scooters numbers vs RHP in the majors is better than the minors. So I also think he could improve from his minors .650 OPS v lefties.

Also, it is just so simple to have that right hand hitting utility fielder for next year to cover for Scooter. And without Rickie's 10 mill contract, that money can be used for something nice, hey. Imagine adding one more good, good bat to the line up.

I guess I can see both points of view with Scooter, if somebody says he can't hit lefties and never will than I could understand the haters comment. Scooter deserves more at bats before getting a label of can't ever hitting lefties. However, to suggest that Gennett should right now be getting at bats at the end of the season when they are fighting for the division seems like a bad idea. Weeks will give a consistent 750 OPS against lefties and it just isn't a good idea to give Gennett on the job training right now. No, he will never hit lefties if he can't face them but the timing is not right.

And embracing this fact is one of the major reasons the A's are so darn good out in Oakland.
