Facing lefties in BP? Ummm, ok then...

How about that Rickie Weeks HR, followed by a HR for MM?

NICE!

LOL right? the idea of comparing BP pitching to actual in game pitching...

but just as we bicker, back to backers happened. brewers

He had 39 ABs last year with horrible numbers...add that to the 35 ABs this year and bad minor league numbers and it is clear that he doesn't hit lefties anywhere near as good as Weeks does at least not right now.

Since they are trying to win the division it really is a no brainer to platoon them.

Yep, and based on 74ABs vs LHP you're determined he's a failure. How about 6GSs last season vs. LHP and a .282/.349/.436/.785 line? LH SP WORLD BEATER!!! Problem is he's 1-21 vs LH RP who's job is to get LH Batters out. 3-15 vs. LH SP this season. Let a guy get ABs seeing a LH pitcher pitch and he'll improve. Seeing the Pitcher ONCE in maybe the entire season and he blows vs. LH Pitching.

He's literally probably hasn't seen a LH Pitcher more than 4ABs all season.

Dude, look at his minor league splits. He is horrible against LHP. That is a fact. Posted on last page of this thread. The Brewers are not in the position to let him try to figure it out.. They need proven production versus a hope and a prayer Scooter figures it out.

Pirates lose. Which is nice.

But going to make this loss feel so much worse because we should have gained a game on them today vs. the Cubs! We've scored 4Runs off these first 3 SPs for them. 3 of them via Solo HR. Only 1 RISP Run scored. We can't put together a single RALLY anymore! When is the last time the team batted around in an inning?

So you dismiss 74 ABs as a small sample (which it clearly is), but then use an even smaller sample to try and prove your point? Ok.

Lets's take the largest sample available, 255/294/349 in 477 minor league plate appearances in the minor leagues does not bode well for success against lefties in the major leagues.

Look, I am not saying that Scooter should be hitting against all LHP, I'm just saying that we should not be labeling the kid a failure at this point in his career.

How many times did we hear how horrible he was defensively? He is not. How many times did we hear he was a slap hitting singles hitter? He is not! This kid has been disrespected since he came up, and he has proven a lot of members on this board wrong.

Do I think that having Rickie face the majority of lefties is a good idea during a playoff chase? Probably, but only because we have nothing better at this point. Some have said that having Scooter face lefties during the hunt is a bad idea, I agree, but what bothers me is that so many are so quick to say he sucks vs lefties when his major league sample is just too small to say with any degree of certainty.

I refuse to bury Scooter because a bunch of stubborn semi-haters continue to bash the kid.

Which are better numbers than what Segura has on the season overall. Again, he'll see the Pitchers more, he will do better than what has shown for his career vs. Lefties because his numbers for his career are based 66% on LH RPs. And his success vs. LHP is vs. LH SPs.

The team won't just eat Weeks' Contract and dump him to give Scooter the chance, it's a moot point anyway. Weeks has 0 Value on the team after being the RH side of a 2b platoon. He adds Nothing else to the Roster.

Scooter OPS'd over .600 in the Minors vs LHP as shown. Is he really incapable of getting better as he sees more ABs vs. LH Starters? We'll get our chance to find out next season what Scooter can do vs. LHP, But I'd bet it's far better than you and Marked even think possible.

I am on board with what you are saying - I have just given up on the haters. Scooter must have kicked their dog or something.

You're a hater if you want the team set up with the best players on the team you love, for every set of circumstances? Okaaaaay.....*sigh*

Nope, that is a bit extreme...

ok, ballgame.

What else am I supposed to use for an argument for Scooter to face Lefty's more? He has 6 career Starts vs. LH SPs. He has 2 of his Career 14HRs vs. said SPs. I'm fine with looking at his Minor league numbers for an idea of what to expect vs. LH Pitching...and it's better than what Jean Segura gives us on the season thus far.

I'm just not a fan of someone pointing out a .200+OPS for Scooter vs. LHP like that is his Career BEST he's ever going to accomplish vs. them...Infinity ABs Scooter will post a .200-.300OPS vs. LH Pitching is how I read that comment. It's set in Stone.
