Fastest Brewers

There's no doubt to that question.

Johnny Davis beat Carlos Gomez in Spring Training, it was talked about in great detail at the beginning of the season.

Yeah, I remember that write up. However, I don't think beating Gomez means he's the fastest. I'd put Omar Garcia and Monte Harrison in that conversation too. Gomez can blaze, obviously, but I don't think has the same speed he did when he was younger.

By all accounts, Johnny Davis is probably the fastest Brewer in years (ever?)

I've read that he (allegedly) runs a 6.0/6.1 second 60-yard dash, while I've seen Gomez pegged at around 6.3 seconds. For the sake of comparison, when Jesse Owens set the world record in the 60-yard dash in 1935 it was 6.1 seconds... I would love to see Davis race Billy Hamilton.

Obviously nobody knows these things for sure, but my pick for the top 3 would probably be Davis, Gomez, and Brandon Diaz.

wow! if that's accurate- that's really, really fast. though to put Jesse Owens in perspective his 1936 Olympic record setting time of 10.3 sec in the 100m, is around what topflight high schoolers run now- Jeff Demps, in HS, ran a 10.1 a few years ago and is now in the NFL.

I remember we had Chris Morris in the mid-2000s, who had over 100 SB one year down in A ball or something. I don't know what ever happened to him- but he had to be pretty fast. also, I remember people saying Manuel Melo in the DSL was lightning fast. others that come to mind in recent years are Darren Ford, Kennard Bibbs.

this makes me want to make a top 10 list of fastest Brewers ever.

You may have forgot about Edgardo Rivera:

Perfect Game (Courtesy of and with permission from Patrick Ebert and the folks at PerfectGame.org):

Rivera was a virtual unknown, even among Puerto Rican scouts, at the beginning of the spring season, and there have even been whispers that one big-league team may have been hiding him out with the goal of slipping him through to the draft sight unseen at major scouting events. That won’t happen now as word of Rivera’s blinding speed leaked out and he was included among other elite Puerto Rican prospects in the Excellence Games in early May. Rivera ran the 60 in a lightning-fast 6.3 seconds at that event and comparisons were immediately made to another former Puerto Rican speedster, Reymond Fuentes, a 2009 first-round pick of the Boston Red Sox. The attending Major League Scouting Bureau immediately slapped an OFP grade of 56 (on a scale of 20 to 80) on Rivera, the second-highest ranking of any player in the 2012 Puerto Rican draft class behind star shortstop Carlos Correa (58). While Rivera’s skills are raw and his resume too short to be drafted where that grade might normally imply, Rivera generated enough interest to have a strong chance of going inside the first five rounds.

I thought I read someplace, or heard, that Johnny Davis was the fastest player in MLB?

Am I making this up? Maybe they said ONE OF the fastest, but I have thought all along he was THE fastest guy in baseball...

I know this, I have seen him swipe bases in Appleton that he could have went in standing up...lol He is ridiculously fast. Garcia is very fast, but using the eye test, Davis appears to be faster.
