Justin Turner

Turner was just designated for assignment by the Florida Marlins. He posted a 3.74 ERA last year, has a 4.01 FIP this year. Throws in the low to mid 90's and doesn't turn 24 until next May. He'd be able to make a start for Garza if we chose to go that route, but at the very least he may be a very nice reliever if his FB could add a little and he may have more success as a 2 pitch pitcher in the pen...although he doesn't have strong splits vs right handers.

Still, with his arm and talent at just 23, he would strike me as a viable option.

I was like huh? SP? Turner the guy the Dodgers have/had?

Turner also was a top 10 SP prospect if I recall. But before we get our hopes up...Cubs/SD/Col/Arz/Phil all would be foolish to pass on acquiring him before allowing Milw get their chance.

My guess is Heaney/Nicolino whichever isn't on the team is going to join the other in the Marlins rotation.

It's actually just weird how both Turner and Eovaldi have struggled playing for Miami and vs. the NL East. Pretty much SPs more highly regarded than either Peralta/Nelson ever were. Yet they both can't maintain an ERA under 4.

Yeah, unless there is some undisclosed reason he was let go, you'd have to think someone will pick him up. It will probably be a non-contender who can give him a rotation slot to see if he can put things together.

Brewers need a short term rotation fix. Expecting a young guy who's struggled mightily to come in and be that guy is a stretch.

Vs expecting an older guy who's struggled mightily to come in and be that guy(Estrada) or another older guy(Fiers) who has struggled to be that guy?

I also mentioned that was ONE of two potential routes. The other would be to use him out of the pen. Power arm and he's more of a two pitch pitcher.

It's a moot point now however.

31 and 29 are really not that old for mlb pitchers.

Well....I didn't say they were old, I just said they were older than Turner, but actually I think that is starting to get old for a major league pitcher. Starting to. Pitchers see pretty substantial drops in their velocity around 31.

At best it's an age where pitchers tend to really start to break down, or struggle as they have to change how they pitch. Marco Estrada can't rear back and fire a 93 MPH fastball anymore. He could at times when he first game here. Now he's 88 MPH and maybe hits 90.
