Cubs make a statement in La La Land

Dead Simmons

The NL Central whipping boys went to LA last weekend and made a statement, coming within a hair of a sweep of the high powered Dodgers. They clubbed them 8-2 in game 1. It took 12 innings and an unheard of August rainstorm (which drew an ovation from the crowd) for LA to win game 2.

Chicago won the final game with a 3 run outburst in the 8th for a 7-3 series win. In case you didn't catch it on Sportscenter, Puig came in at one point for only his 2nd pinch-hit opportunity of the year and produced a hard single as the crowd went wild. No doubt full of himself he thought to steal 2nd and was promptly picked off 1st. The crowd went mum.

It's not that I hate the Dodgers, I just love David and Goliath stuff. ;)

The Dodgers may have a lot of names but they really haven't translated that into wins. Their bigger statement was promoting Javier Baez today.
Never having heard of Baez I went over to NSBB to read what was being said, and I'll tell you that I have never seen those poor souls so thrilled and exited. This kid must really be something!

Apparently he'll make his first start vs. the Rockies (tomorrow?) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/08/04/levine-cubs-calling-up-javier-baez/
