Tyler Wagner 80 pitches through 4 innings is really struggling in this game, mostly with command. Tyrone Taylor has his 35th double and Roache has homered.

Wagner went 5, left with a 3-2 lead and is in line for the win. He did manage to wall off Fortunato, who was 0-2. (Poe reference).

Tyrone Taylor has his 35th double

With 30 games remaining in the Manatees season, Tyrone Taylor is approaching a historic season in terms of doubles production in the Florida State League. He is just 3 doubles shy of entering the top ten doubles leaders in the Florida State League since 2000. He would be one of just four players on the list that were in their age 20 season or younger. The other three are Miguel Cabrera, David Wright, and Logan Morrison.

Final: Brevard County 4, Bradenton 2

'Tees snap three-game skid with 4-2 win over Bradenton

Roache's blast, Peterson's relief keys Brevard's victory

By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees

BRADENTON, Fla. - Victor Roache drove in two and Stephen Peterson tossed four innings of perfect relief to lead the Brevard County Manatees over the Bradenton Marauders, 4-2 on Saturday night at McKechnie Field.

After the Marauders (25-16 second half, 60-50 overall) grabbed a 1-0 in the bottom of the first, Roache put the Manatees (20-18, 56-48) on the comeback trail in the next half-inning.

With one out in the top of the second, the former first-round pick unloaded on a ball to deep right-center field. Center fielder Raul Fortunato and right fielder Walker Gourley chased it into the gap and both made a leaping attempt to try and snare the ball.

However, neither came down with it. Roache's solo clout was his team-leading 13th of the year and it knotted the game up at one.

With the game still tied at one, Roache played a key part in the 'Tees rally in the fourth. Michael Reed sparked the onslaught with single to right and Cameron Garfield followed him up with a double to the opposite field, as well.

On a 1-2 pitch to Roache, Bradenton starter Jason Creasy (6-7, 3.72 ERA) spiked one in the dirt. The ball caromed off the equipment of catcher Jason Stallings and flew over his head to the backstop. Reed raced home from third and Garfield advanced behind him to third to give Brevard its first lead, 2-1.

The Georgia Southern product made the situation worse for Bradenton later in the at-bat. Two pitches later, Roache laced a line drive into right field. Garfield scored from third and the Manatees had a two-run advantage, 3-1.

In the sixth, Roache almost clobbered his second blast of the game. However, with the wind whipping out towards right, the ball died in the left-center field warning track for a fly out.

Bradenton would scratch across another run in the bottom of the fourth on a bases loaded, passed ball, but that was the last time they would score this evening.

Manatees' ace Tyler Wagner (11-4, 1.54) did not have his best stuff, but kept Brevard in the ball game. The former Utah Ute allowed just two runs - one earned - over five innings, as he tallied his 11th win of the season, which ties him with Bradenton's Chad Kuhl for the Florida State League-lead.

With 91 pitches through five, a high pitch count kept Wagner from going deeper into the night. He ended his evening with two walks and four strikeouts and still leads the FSL in ERA with a 1.54 mark.

Even with the short outing, Wagner's numbers over his last eight are still remarkable. In those outings, he is now 7-0 with a 0.52 ERA.

Peterson came out of the bullpen and put a stop to any possible Marauder comeback. The left-handed reliever twirled his best outing of the season, as he threw four perfect innings to record his third save of the year.

The Massachusetts native was efficient, too. It took Peterson just 42 pitches to retire all 12 men he faced.

Brevard gave Peterson some extra cushion in the seventh. Following a lead-off double by Garrett Cooper, Nathan Orf sliced an RBI triple into the right-center field gap to increase the Manatees' lead to 4-2.

Tyrone Taylor had another spectacular evening at the plate in the victory. The number two prospect in the Brewers organization, according to both Baseball America and MLB.com, pieced together a three-hit night, which included his league-leading 35th double of the year.

Joe Ayrault will turn to left-hander Hobbs Johnson (10-7, 3.15) tomorrow evening at McKechnie Field with first pitch scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Johnson will look to tie Wagner and Kuhl for the league-lead in wins at 11. Shane Carle (1-2, 5.40) will make his fifth start for the Marauders.

Brevard County Box Score

Tyler Wagner didn't have his most dominating game tonight, but still won his 11th game of the season, going five innings and giving up only one earned run. Stephen Peterson worked the final four frames without allowing a hit or a run to notch his third save. Tyrone Taylor went 3-for-4 with a double while Victor Roache singled and hit his team leading 13th home run. Mike Garza added a single and a double and Garrett Cooper doubled and walked in four plate appearances.

Chiefs stop Rattlers win streak

Peoria beats Wisconsin 9-3

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Angel Ortega drives in a pair of runs for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers with a single in the bottom of the sixth inning on Saturday night.

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Peoria Chiefs defeated the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 9-3 on Saturday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium to snap Wisconsin's four-game winning streak. All nine of Peoria's runs scored with two outs.

Wisconsin (59-51 overall, 23-18 second half) scored first. Taylor Brennan drew a walk to start the bottom of the first inning and Chris McFarland followed with a single off Peoria starter Rob Kaminsky. Michael Ratterree was next and he grounded into a 6-4-3 double play that got Brennan to third base. Clint Coulter singled to drive in Brennan for a 1-0 lead.

Peoria (59-51, 22-19) had a runner at third with two outs in the top of the third inning when Rattlers starting pitcher Preston Gainey walked Carson Kelly. Rowan Wick has next and he hit a three-run homer to right-center to give the Chiefs the lead.

In the fourth, Gainey retired the first two batters, but a walk to Vaughn Bryan and a wild pitch kept the inning alive. CJ McElroy Jr. hit a slow roller to first and he just beat the flip to the bag. Bryan never slowed around third base and scored ahead of the throw to the plate.

The Chiefs added a run against reliever Harvey Martin in the fifth. A walk and a hit batsman to start the inning were followed by a pair of strikeouts, but Ronald Castillo singled up the middle on an 0-2 pitch to drive in a run for a 5-1 lead.

Kaminsky ran into trouble against the Rattlers in the bottom of the sixth. Ratterree walked and Coulter singled to put two runners on base. Kaminsky got the first out with a strikeout before turning the game over to the bullpen.

Reliever Jhonny Polanco entered the game and walked Omar Garcia to load the bases. Polanco got the second out of the inning without a run scoring. Then, Angel Ortega battled a ten-pitch at bat as he fouled off five different two-strike pitches before lining a single to left that drove in Ratterree and Coulter to cut the Peoria lead to 5-3.

Martin had two one with two out in the top of the seventh inning, but gave up an RBI single to Cesar Valera. Richy Pedroza was next and he lined a 3-2 pitch into the corner in right for a two-run double that made it 8-3.

Chris Razo took over for Martin and an error on an infield single by Bryan allowed Pedroza to score for a 9-3 lead.

Polanco retired the Rattlers in order in the seventh and eighth innings. Steven Sabatino set the Rattlers down 1-2-3 in the ninth to finish the game.

The final game of the series is Sunday afternoon. Javier Salas, the 10th round pick of the Milwaukee Brewers from the 2014 draft, will make his Midwest League debut as the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Peoria plans on Arturo Reyes (6-7, 3.75) is set to start for the Chiefs. Game time is 1:05pm.

The first 1,000 fans to attend Sunday's game will receive the Khris Davis bobblehead courtesy of Goodwill as part of the 20th Anniversary bobblehead series.

Fans can play catch on-field courtesy of Rasmussen College before the Rattlers game and Bernie Brewer, the mascot of the Milwaukee Brewers, will be on hand to meet and greet fans as part of Brewers Sunday presented by 107.5, The Fan. Plus, Timber Rattlers players and coaches will be wearing gold Rattlers jerseys based on the design of the Milwaukee Brewers and all Timber Rattlers players will be available for a postgame autograph session.

Sunday is also McClone's Strike Out Cancer Day. The Timber Rattlers will donate $1 for all tickets sold on Sunday to the Strike Out Cancer Day Fund to benefit local families battling pediatric cancer. Shear Chaos Salon will be at the ballpark for fans who wish to participate in a Locks of Love Drive. Be the Match Bone Marrow registry will be at the game with information on how to Be the Match.

HOME RUN:

PEO:

WP: Rob Kaminsky (6-2)

LP: Preston Gainey (3-7)

TIME: 3:02

ATTN: 5,797

Wisconsin Boxscore

I was at the game and was shocked when Preston Gainey went 93,93,93,94 according to my stalker gun on FBs in the first, he's added significant velocity. Unfortunately his control is still lacking so the end result hasn't been what he or we would be looking for. About the only bad thing at Neuroscience Field is the crappy stadium gun, it's regularly off 2-4 MPH but every once in a while will nail a pitch.

Harvey Martin is an enigma... he has a 91-93 MPH FB, decent secondary stuff, he's not wild in that he's missing spots by 2-3 feet like some guys, but he regularly leaves pitches up in the zone over the plate and gets beat around.

Clint Coulter (2-4) had the only multi-hit game for the T-Rats, both singles were to right field. The first was well struck, the 2nd a blooper into no man's land in short RF.

St Louis prospect Rob Kaminsky looked to be working with a cutter against RH batters, he was 86-87 and then starting mixing in a 4 seamer at 89-91, topping out at 92. He's not flashy, his delivery is a bit messy, but it's hard to complain about the ultimate result.

Blazek Pitches, Hits Sounds To 4-2 Win In New Orleans

First-Place Sounds Take Series Opener Against Division-Rival Z's

Nashville Sounds

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/8/9/4/87678894/cuts/Blazek_Red_y1eewh5h_twxe4iod.jpg

(Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds)

METAIRIE, La. - Pitcher Michael Blazek tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings and accounted for three of Nashville's four runs scored in the Sounds' 4-2 victory over New Orleans on Saturday evening at Zephyr Field in the opener of a four-game series.

With the victory, the Sounds (62-53) maintained their two-game lead in the PCL American Conference Southern Division.

Blazek (2-4) pick up his second win of the year with his solid outing. The right-hander has been outstanding in his last four starts for the Sounds, posting a 0.92 ERA (2er/19.2ip) over that stretch.

Blazek helped his own cause in the top of the fifth inning when the hurler led off with a double to right-center and later scored the night's first run on a wild pitch from Zephyrs starter Anthony DeSclafani (2-3) to give the Sounds a 1-0 lead.

Blazek (2-for-3) continued to get it done with the lumber in the sixth, upping the Nashville advantage to 3-0 with a two-out, two-run single to right off Z's reliever Bryan Evans. Sean Halton (2-for-4) got things started in the frame with a leadoff doubled off the center field wall. With two down, New Orleans elected to intentionally walk Kevin Mattison, who was hitless in his last 17 at-bats, to face Blazek, and the hurler made them pay for that decision with his two-run knock. On the play, Mattison hustled around the bases to score from first.

Nashville tacked on another run in the seventh against Casey McCarthy. Jason Rogers (2-for-4) smacked a one-out double into the left field corner then scored on a Halton bloop single to shallow left-center that dropped among three Zephyrs defenders to make it a 4-0 contest.

The Zephyrs broke up the shutout bid in the home half of the seventh with a pair of runs off Sounds reliever Dustin Molleken. The speedy Austin Wates led off with an infield single before scoring two batters later on Mark Canha's run-scoring double into the right field corner. Justin Bour followed with a first-pitch RBI single to left that halved the Nashville lead to 4-2.

Brent Leach (1.1 IP) and Rob Wooten closed out the victory with scoreless relief outings for Nashville; Wooten nailed down his ninth save of the year.

Eugenio Velez, who entered the game in the seventh inning as part of a double switch, flew out in his lone plate appearance to snap his season-best hitting streak at eight games for the Sounds.

The teams continue the series with a 4:00 p.m. contest on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Mike Fiers (8-5, 2.62) will toe the slab for the Sounds to face New Orleans right-hander Alex Sanabia (5-4, 4.80).

Nashville Boxscore

Michael Blazek says, "DH this!", I sure do love it when pitchers can hit a little bit. Blazek worked around 7 hits and 3 walks in his eventful 5.2 innings to put up a scoreless night.

Final: Helena 10, Missoula 1

Big sixth pushes Brewers past Missoula

By Bill Speltz / Missoulian

MISSOULA — A brutal sixth inning smothered the Missoula Osprey on Saturday night, killing their promising win streak at four games.

The Helena Brewers exploded for eight runs on eight hits in the fateful frame and cruised to a 10-1 win in front of 2,106 fans at Ogren-Allegiance Park.

The only good news for Missoula was that Justin Williams extended his team-record hit streak to 28 games on an opposite-field single to left in the eighth inning.

Williams was down to his last chance when he delivered on a 3-2 pitch. The left-handed hitter came up empty in his first three plate appearances.

“It was staying on top of the ball, stay through it, and I didn’t come off,” said Williams, a second-year Osprey from Houma, Louisiana. “It was getting a good pitch to hit and don’t miss the fastball basically.

“This is my greatest moment in pro ball for sure.”

With the game knotted at 1, the Helena sixth started quietly enough when Edgardo Rivera grounded out to second. From there it went downhill in a hurry for Missoula starting pitcher Gabriel Moya.

Consecutive singles by Sthervin Matos, Connor Narron, Mitch Meyer and Tucker Neuhaus scored two runs and chased Moya. Jency Solis came on in relief and didn’t fare much better. He surrendered four runs on four hits and retired just one batter before being lifted.

Will Landsheft came on and struck out Connor Narron to end the inning. But the Osprey headed to the dugout saddled with a 9-1 deficit.

“They just started getting hits, timely hits at that,” Williams said. “With runners in scoring position they put the ball in play, moved them over.”

J.B. Kole (1-2) picked up his first pitching win of the season in eight appearances. He allowed just one run on five hits in the first five innings as Helena pulled even with Missoula in the second-half standings at 4-4.

Missoula’s only run came on a towering home run to right field by Tyler Baker in the fifth inning. That evened the score after Helena plated the first run on a Mitch Meyer solo shot to right field in the top of the fourth.

Helena out-hit the hosts 14-6. Tucker Neuhaus went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Sthervin Matos 3 for 5 with an RBI.

Number 9 hitter Dionis Hinojosa, who was batting .186 heading into the game, was 2 for 3 with three RBIs. He also had a diving circus catch in the first frame, robbing Williams of a hit on a liner to left field.

Leadoff hitter Sergio Alcantara led the Osprey attack, going 2 for 4 with a pair of singles. Dane McFarland had a triple in the second inning.

Moya suffered the loss, dropping his record to 2-4. He allowed five earned runs on nine hits while striking out four in 5 1/3 innings.

The Brewers will take a travel day today — there are no Pioneer League games on the schedule, in fact — and play at Idaho Falls on Monday night.

Helena Box Score

The Brewers put up 14 hits, only 2 of which were extra base hits. They were clutch with runners in scoring position, hitting 6-for-10 in such instances tonight. Sthervin Matos went 3-for-5, but also committed his 7th error while playing 3B tonight. Mitch Meyer was 2-for-5 with a home run and 3 runs scored. Tucker Neuhaus continued his show signs of improving offensively by going 3-for-4 with a walk and stolen base.

Helena Game Log

With the game tied 1-1, Helena broke the game open in the 6th with 8 runs on 8 hits.

New Orleans newspaper coverage includes --

Zephyrs drop fifth straight in series opener against Nashville

Former LSU baseball player Matt Clark played for Nashville Saturday. Signed by the Brewers to a minor league deal on July 4, the first baseman previously played for Double-A Binghamton in the Mets system but opted out of his contract and was released on June 25.

Clark, who went 0-for-4 with a walk, said it's been a hectic year but is happy to get situated with his new club.

"It's a great group of guys here," Clark said. "Everyone here does what they need to do on a daily basis. The managers and coaching staff are awesome, and it's been fun so far."

Nashville starting pitcher Michael Blazek (2-4) helped his own cause in the fifth inning when he led off the frame with a double to center field. The Las Vegas native went to third on a sacrifice and scored on a wild pitch by Zephyr's starter Anthony DeSclafani (2-3) to put the Sounds on top 1-0.

That wild pitch was New Orleans' 87th on the season, setting a franchise single-season record.

Blazek would again help his own cause in the sixth inning when he ripped a two-RBI single to right field, plating Sean Halton and former Zephyr Kevin Mattison for the 3-0 lead. Halton and Mattison reached on a double and a walk, respectively.

Blazek went 5 2/3 innings in the win, giving up no runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and three walks. DeSclafani went five innings and gave up one earned run on three hits with five strikeouts and four walks.

Michael Blazek (2-for-3) continued to get it done with the lumber in the sixth, upping the Nashville advantage to 3-0 with a two-out, two-run single to right off Z's reliever Bryan Evans.

Jason Rogers (2-for-4) smacked a one-out double into the left field corner then scored on a Sean Halton bloop single to shallow left-center that dropped among three Zephyrs defenders to make it a 4-0 contest.

Final: Jacksonville 3, @Huntsville 2

Suns Edge Stars

Steve Jarnicki, Huntsville Stars

Huntsville, AL - The Jacksonville Suns got a quality start from Robert Morey (3-2) and were able to hold off the Huntsville Stars late for a 3-2 victory Saturday night at Joe Davis Stadium in Huntsville.

The Stars took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by Hector Gimenez.

The Suns took the lead for good in the top of the second against Huntsville starter Eric Marzec (1-3).

Brady Shoemaker and Alex Burg opened the inning with back to back singles. Two batters later, Isaac Galloway lined a bases clearing triple to the alley in right center giving the Suns a 2-1 lead.

The next batter, Brent Keys, extended the lead to 3-1. Keys lined a ball off the shortstop Yadiel Rivera's glove scoring Galloway.

The Stars got a run closer in the bottom of the seventh. Adam Weisenburger led off with a solo home run against Morey. It was Weisenburger's second home run of the year.

Morey worked six innings allowing two runs on five hits.

The Stars attempted a late comeback against Jacksonville's closer Nick Wittgren in the ninth. With two on base and two outs, Nick Shaw swung at the first pitch and popped out to the shortstop Austin Nola to end the game.

Wittgren collected his 17th save of the season.

Marzec, who took the loss, pitched 5.2 innings and allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits.

The Stars have now lost four straight.

The Stars (19-24, 65-48) trail the Suns (64-49, 28-15) 3-0 in their five game series which continues Sunday afternoon. The Stars will have LHP Jed Bradley (4-5, 3.81) on the mound. Jacksonville will send LHP Justin Nicolino (9-3, 2.95) to the hill. The game can be heard starting at 3:45 PM CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.

Huntsville Box Score

We've seen this before over the years, fielding slumps, from the more-than-capable SS Yadiel Rivera.

RHP Kevin Shackelford stranded two of Eric Marzec's baserunners, then tossed another scoreless frame, in a needed positive outing.

Maryvale Game Log

T: 2:54 (:01 delay).

A one-minute delay? Really?

Matt Martin, the 21-year-old catcher out of Wake Forest, has had a nice summer showing, he homers and doubles here (1.038 OPS in his 39 Maryvale AB's). He'll be looking to skip to Wisconsin next spring.

SS Jake Gatewood singled twice and walked, nice.

LF Troy Stokes singled and doubled, he's had a solid summer and is hitting .302 in his last ten games, although the walks (one in that span) are less frequent than they were early in his season.

Martin's heroics:
