Not that Haniger is a huge loss but what is the point of this?? A deal for a deals sake?? Parra is OPSing .667. Who is he going to replace? A platoon with Davis?

He will replace Logan Schafer as the 4th OF. This was much needed.

Parra has a career OPS of .721 with over 2,900 career plate appearances.

He can give any 3 of the Brewers outfielders a day off since he can play all 3 spots.

Khris Davis is OPS'ing more than 100 points over Parra and has significantly more power than Parra. I certainly don't see how losing his starts vs RHP to Parra makes us better than we were before the trade.

No way does this put Braun or Davis at all at 1B. Parra's the 4th OF who can also start and not embarrass himself, plus he's a serious defensive upgrade over Davis in LF (Gold Gloves in '11 & '13).

I still really like Logan Schafer but in 1.5 years his bat hasn't adjusted to coming off the bench. Schafer's still a decent asset but now as the 5th OF.

Haniger seems like a substantial price to pay, but you have to give up something of value to get something of value, so while I'm a little wary of giving him up, I'm still okay with the deal.

I know that Parra is a former gold glover, but is he going to play enough for his bat to even matter over Khris Davis'. Gomez and Braun arent going to sit in favor of him very often. Its (1:08 CT)...maybe Khris Davis is in discussion for a Blockbuster deal?????? IDK im just speculating at this point.

So we got a rich man's Logan Schafer.

Good bench bat and OF defense but not much else.

Since they didn't bring him in to be an everyday starter (unless there's an injury), what else is there and what else did you think the Brewers needed in him?

Parra's splits:

VS RHP: .271 .304 .389 .693

VS LHP: .212 .309 .259 .568

Davis splits:

vs RHP: .232 .288 .435 .723

vs LHP: .319 .357 .604 .962

I think we just found a platoon

Looking at this line? I'd hope not.

Let Parra play the 4th outfielder role. Below average offense is still a decent upgrade over Schafer when they're about even defensively.

Seems a little high on our side with throwing in Banda as well, but certainly an area were we get a lot of bang for the buck in terms of improvement. I'm not advocating a strict platoon, but giving Davis some more days off against righties helps everyone. If we found the equivalent at first I'd be pretty happy. The As basically built their offense by finding mishmashes of partial players, no reason we can't do the same.

I may be out of my mind here but maybe the Brewers are working on a deal for David Price in the next hour??? I see no other need for Parra unless we are going to trade Davis.

He has a canon:

Especially vs Davis's soft tossing arm. Not only will he start vs tons of RHP he will replace Davis when the Brewers have the lead late. 2 gold gloves (2011 and 2013) ... this is a great trade. Good job Doug!

Over his career though, this is Parra vs righties

.286 .335 .425 .760

Probably won't be a strict platoon in LF, but more of playing Parra vs righthanded starterS who are especially tough vs RH batters. Plus , he's a top notch defender as a corner OF.

Not a major trade of any kind, but i don't care much about losing Haniger.

I must be out of my mind too as that thought has crossed my mind as well

Please note that Parra's career numbers vs. righties are a .760 OPS and he is hardly old enough to think he is declining. The plurality of the evidence makes Parra a slightly better hitter right now against righties and certainly a better defender.

Why is Haniger a substantial price to pay?

He's 23 and sporting a .723 OPS in AA ball. Odds are he'll be lucky to have a career as a backup OF in the majors.

Really? How about as a PH every night instead of Schaefer? That's reason enough.

But if it isn't, I'm sure they would like to rest Braun more often, but simply can't afford to take him out of the line-up. Parra allows Braun to rest once a week. Similar story with Gomez, Davis. So I would expect 2 starts a week from Parra. Something I'm sure they would have loved to so with Schaefer or Gindl, but couldn't.

Also should be mentioned that while Braun has been pretty consistent in the past few weeks, you never know when his oblique or finger might act up again and require more playing time from the reserve OF. Much more comfortable turning to Parra than Schafer or Herrera.

I am nevously waiting by my computer for the next 90 min because i am almost sold that Davis will be involved in a HUGE DEAL...If not, i will be very disappointed.
