Venezuela league...Based on what I have seen...defense is horrible and the quality of play is likened to that of the pioneer league or lower. Several fields have short porches and a harder type baseball is used which is great for the hitters and not so much for pitchers.

21-year-old RHP Gian Rizzo hasn't pitched for his club in Venezuela since October 30th.

 

Indications we've received is that Rizzo is fine (not injured), this is not unusual for young players getting their early winter experience from just being with the team.

Brewers SS prospect, 20-year-old Orlando Arcia, has produced most impressive batting line in Venezuelan Winter League

 

"Among those players who appear among the Caribbean Leagues’ top-10 hitters, Milwaukee’s Orlando Arcia is the one most readily regarded as a prospect. As just a 19-year-old this past season, Arcia (younger brother of Minnesota outfielder Oswaldo Arcia) exhibited above-average control of the plate (producing walk and strikeout rates of 7.7% and 11.9%, respectively) while also stealing bases on 31 of 42 attempts (74%). Meanwhile, he’s considered at least an average defender at shortstop, as well. A promising collection of skills, that."

When Alcides was with the Cardenales de Lara, I was stumbling around with Spanish links trying to find info and I came across a site with videos. They had ones of the streets around the stadium as well as the festivities inside along with baseball action. It was cuh-raz-eee with bands and partying and wildness.
