You got me today, Mass. I wasn't expecting a game this early. Already 7-0 when I tuned in and only 2 complete. MiLB is behind the audio for once so I can't figure out what happened. Darn.

Okay, a bunch of singles, a bunch of walks and a bunch of Lake County errors led to a 7 run second for the Rattlers (all runs scored with 2 outs). Banda is cruising through 3.

Even better the top 5 in the order have combined to make only 2 outs (both on a GIDP from Denson). McFarland and Denson are my favorites to watch right now, I think both are going to finish the season strong and really establish themselves as guys to watch. They won't crack the top 10 for the Brewers just yet in my book, but after the draft and Lara signings that is no longer a dismissal.

Age 21 season:

Player 1: .305/.354/.450/.804

Player 2: .300/.334/.406/.740

Who are the players? Chris McFarland, Scooter Gennett albeit Scooter's was at Brevard County. Chris now has 24 steals in 30 attempts so he adds speed also.

Banda went 7 gave up 3 hits. Only 79 pitches.

Clint Coulter pinch hit for McFarland in the 9th. I'm guessing Chris is OK and they just wanted to get Clint an at bat. Immediately buzzed by the pitcher. Clint leads the Midwest league in HBP (16). Maybe he will become the Brewers' Don Baylor? Victor Diaz probably threw more pitches in the 8th than Banda did the previous 7. Hopefully, he can hold on.

Diaz holds on and the Rattlers win.

Rattlers win fourth straight game with 7-4 triumph at Lake County

Wisconsin scores seven in the 2nd & Banda pitches seven scoreless

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattler

EASTLAKE, OH - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers used a big two-out rally in the second inning and seven scoreless innings from starting pitcher Anthony Banda to defeat the Lake County Captains 7-4 on Thursday afternoon at Classic Park.

The first two Timber Rattlers to bat - Taylor Brennan and Rafael Neda - in the top of the second inning reached on walks issued by Lake County starting pitcher Luis Lugo, but he got the next hitter to ground into a 5-3 double play. That looked like the end of the scoring chances for the Rattlers (54-47 overall, 18-14 second half). Then, the next seven Timber Rattlers reached base to pull away from the Captains.

Jose Pena singled off the foot of Lugo to start the rally. Angel Ortega dropped a blooper into center to score Neda for a 1-0 lead. Johnny Davis drew a walk to load the bases for Chris McFarland.

McFarland worked the count to 3-2 and lined a single up the middle to score two runs for a 3-0 lead and to knock Lugo out of the game.

Lake County (42-60, 15-17) went to Justin Garcia to face Michael Ratterree. McFarland stole second during Ratterree's at bat and the Captains elected to try to pick Davis off third base. The throw went into left field and Davis scored easily as McFarland cruised into third. Ratterree would draw a walk, the sixth of the game by Lake County pitching, to set the stage for David Denson.

Denson singled to center to knock in McFarland for a 5-0 lead. The throw in from center got away from everyone and trickled to the backstop behind home plate to allow Ratterree to take third and Denson to move to second. Taylor Brennan made the Captains pay for their third error of the inning when he singled to right to send both Ratterree and Denson home for a 7-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Banda was cruising. He tossed seven scoreless innings in 79 pitches. Banda allowed three hits, walked one, and struck out six.

Lake County got on the scoreboard in the eighth inning against reliever Victor Diaz. Diaz walked the leadoff batter and gave up a two-run homer to Richard Stock. Brian Ruiz followed with a double and an error allowed Ivan Castillo to reach. Claudio Bautista got Ruiz home with a grounder to third. Diaz got the next two outs without incident.

In the ninth, Diaz retired the first two batters. Stock kept the inning going with a double. Ruiz singled to left to drive in Stock to cut Wisconsin's lead to three. Diaz ended the game and the Captains comeback hopes when he got Castillo to ground out to second for the final out.

Wisconsin's win was their fourth in a row and pushed them to seven games over .500 to match their high water mark of the season. Lake County has lost eight straight games - all to teams from the Western Division.

The final game of the series is Friday night at Classic Park. Zach Quintana (3-4, 6.02) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Luis Lugo (5-7, 5.55) is set to start for the Captains. Game time is 6:00pm CDT. Catch the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 5:40pm CDT.

HOME RUN:

LC:

Richard Stock (3rd, 1 on in 8th inning off Victor Diaz, 0 out)

WP: Anthony Banda (5-6)

LP: Luis Lugo (5-8)

TIME: 2:32

ATTN: 3,348

Wisconsin Boxscore

Anthony Banda posted his finest effort of the season at the perfect time allowing the T-Rats to cruise in this one.

The Rattlers were actually out hit in this game 6-7 and no T-Rat had a multihit game.

Macias, Roache go deep to lead 'Tees over Cards, 7-4

Manatees record 15 hits as they end their five-game skid

VIERA, Fla. - Thanks to a pair of home runs from Brandon Macias and Victor Roache, the Brevard County Manatees ended their five-game losing streak with a 7-4 win over the Palm Beach Cardinals on Thursday night at Space Coast Stadium.

After Palm Beach (22-11 second half, 58-44 overall) grabbed a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly from Ildemaro Vargas, Brevard County's (16-13, 52-43) bats exploded in the third inning, as the 'Tees grabbed a lead they would never relinquish.

Macias started the frame with a single to left, but then the Manatees picked up base-hits in wacky ways. On a 2-2 pitch, Nathan Orf hit a chopper to the left-side of the infield. The third baseman Vargas ranged to his left and the shortstop Greg Miclat raced in, but neither communicated who was going to take charge. The ball snuck between them and Orf was safe at first with an infield single.

The next batter, Orlando Arcia, continued the bizarre half-inning, as he swung at the first pitch. The ball rolled on to the dirt in front of home plate, but Palm Beach catcher Gerwuins Velazco thought the ball was popped in the air. By the time Cardinals pitcher Tyrell Jenkins (4-2, 3.50 ERA) fielded the ball there was no play to be made. Arcia was on with the second straight infield single to load the bases.

Tyrone Taylor would drove home Macias with a sacrifice fly to left to tie the score at one. Michael Reed and Cameron Garfield followed with a pair of singles to drive home Orf and Arcia to give the Manatees the lead, 3-1.

With Garfield's base-hit, the Manatees had nine straight batters produce a productive at-bat. Brevard County recorded eight singles and a sacrifice fly, consecutively. The Manatees tallied three straight singles in the second, but Roache was thrown out trying to score from second base to end the inning.

Mason Katz ripped an RBI triple to right-center to cut the lead to one in the top of the fourth, but in the bottom of the frame the 'Tees began to crank the long ball.

Mike Garza started the inning with a single to center and with one out Macias dug in against Jenkins. On a 0-1 pitch, Macias unloaded on a ball and drove out to deep left-center field. It looked like a casual fly ball, but the wind carried the ball well over the 404-foot sign. The two-run home run was Macias' first of the year and it pushed the Manatees' lead to 5-2.

In the fifth, it was Roache's turn. After the first two batters of the inning grounded out to third, Roache crushed a ball to deep left-center, as well. The wind helped carry the ball some, but Roache's power did most of the work. The ball landed out by the flagpoles for a solo shot, Roache's team-leading 12th home run of the year, to push the Manatees' lead to 6-2.

However, the Cardinals would rally back. In the top of the eighth, after reliever Chad Pierce struck out the first two batters of the inning looking, Palm Beach began its strike.

Anthony Garcia walked on four pitches and then Mason Katz delivered again. The former LSU Tiger, who finished the night a home run shy of the cycle, flipped a double down the left field line. Garcia scored easily from first to trim the lead to 6-3.

The following hitter, Miclat, kept the attack going. On a payoff pitch, he roped a single in front of Reed in right field. Katz scored from second and the Cardinals were within two, 6-4.

After Brevard pushed across an insurance run in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly from Nathan Orf, the Cardinals made the Manatee faithful sweat again.

Mike Strong came out of the bullpen to close out the ballgame and retired the first two batters on groundouts. Bruce Caldwell then slapped a single to left and Luke Voit followed with a line drive single to center. With the tying run at the plate, David Popkins hit a slow roller to short. Arcia was able to field and throw on to first to get the out and end the game.

Despite an abbreviated start, Damien Magnifico (7-5, 3.67) tallied his seventh win of the season. The Florida State League All-Star allowed two runs - one earned - on six hits over five innings. He walked two and struck out four on 84 pitches.

Jenkins took his second loss of the season for Palm Beach. The former first round pick battled through his worst start of the year. In five innings, Jenkins allowed a season-high six runs and 12 hits. He struck out one and did not walk a batter.

The Manatees bats thrived again tonight, as the team tallied 15 base-hits. Four players - Arcia, Roache, Garza and Macias - had multi-hit performances.

Macias tied a season-high with three hits and fell a triple short of the cycle. Including tonight, the former Kansas Jayhawk has now driven in seven runs in his last six contests.

Brevard County will look to continue their winning ways tomorrow, as first pitch against Palm Beach is slated for 6:35 p.m. at Space Coast Stadium. Jorge Lopez (8-5, 3.54) will get the start for the Manatees against fellow righty Joe Cuda (6-7, 5.94).

By Dustin Daniel / Helena Brewers

The Helena Brewers (13-24) lost their fourth straight on Thursday, getting swept by the Great Falls Voyagers (23-14) with an 11-1 loss.

Chris Freudenberg (3-3) got the start for Great Falls, pitching six innings of shutout baseball, giving up four hits and striking out five.

The Voyagers scored nine of their runs in the first three innings, with six coming in the third. Ryan Jones hit a 2-RBI single to left followed two batters later by a three-RBI triple from Jake Peter. Peter was 2-for-5 with 4 RBI, a double and a triple.

Javi Salas (0-3) struggled in the start for Helena, just pitching two innings and giving up six runs on five hits.

Mitch Meyer's 13-game hitting streak would come to an end on Thursday as he went 0-for-3. He would face a struggling Mike Blanke in the eighth, but would be walked in his final plate appearance of the night.

Great Falls' Mason Robbins came up a double short of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with 2 RBI.

The Brewers now head back to Kindrick Field for a three-game series with the Missoula Osprey. First pitch on Friday is set for 7:05 p.m.

Fiers being Fiers. Bradley making worms tremble - not only a 10:2 GO:FO but four of the six hits he gave up were ground ball singles, and three of those were infield hits. If he can keep this ground ball ratio up he will likely get better as he moves up as he will get better defense behind him.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds defeated the Colorado Springs Sky Sox by a 4-2 count in front of a packed house of 9,202 fans on Thursday evening at Greer Stadium.

The first-place Sounds (56-50) took three of four from the Sky Sox in the series to extend their division lead to 2 1/2 games over New Orleans and Round Rock.

Outfielder Caleb Gindl drove in three of the four Sounds runs on the night.

Mike Fiers (8-5) earned a win for the second straight outing by limiting the Sky Sox to one run on five hits while striking out seven batters over his 5 2/3 innings of action. With the seven punchouts, Mike Fiers took over the Pacific Coast League lead with 122 K's on the year.

The Sounds grabbed an early lead on Gindl's two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the first inning. Nashville loaded the bases on an Irving Falu double followed by a pair of walks issued by Sky Sox starter Pedro Hernandez before Gindl delivered the go-ahead knock.

Colorado Springs got a run back in the third with a two-out rally against Fiers. After the first two batters of the frame were retired, the visitors pieced together three consecutive two-out singles, the last of which by Kyle Parker cut Nashville's lead to 2-1.

Nashville increased its lead to 4-1 in the fifth with a pair of two-out runs. With the bases full of Sounds, Gindl plated his third run of the night by drawing a walk to force home Pete Orr. Matt Clark, who had singled earlier in the frame, scored the second run of the inning when he raced home on a wild pitch.

The Sky Sox closed out the night's scoring in the top of the eighth when Cristhian Adames doubled against Sounds reliever Arcenio Leon and later scored on a two-out Matt McBride single.

Alfredo Figaro recorded the final four outs for the Sounds to close out the victory and nail down his first save of the year.

The Sounds continue their homestand on Friday evening by hosting the Oklahoma City RedHawks (AAA-Astros) in the 7:05 p.m. opener of a four-game series. Right-hander Taylor Jungmann (4-5, 5.64) will toe the slab for Nashville and face Oklahoma City southpaw Tommy Shirley (0-1, 8.03).

Jackson Claims Series

Steve Jarnicki, Huntsville Stars

Jackson, TN - Brock Hebert came through with a two-out RBI single back up the middle in the bottom of the sixth inning giving the Jackson Generals a 3-2 lead. The Generals bullpen then held on for a 3-2 win over the Huntsville Stars Thursday night at The Ballpark at Jackson.

Jackson scored first in the bottom of the second against Huntsville LHP Jed Bradley (3-5). Pat Kivlehan led off with a double. Two batters Kivlehan scored when Dan Paolini produced a sacrifice fly giving the Generals a 1-0 lead.

The Stars took the lead in the top of the third inning. Adam Weisenbuger led off with a double. Nick Shaw then singled into right field tying the game at 1-1.

Josh Fellhauer followed Shaw's run producing hit by generating one of his own. With Shaw at second base, Fellhauer lined an RBI double off the right field wall scoring Shaw giving the Stars a 2-1 lead.

Jackson tied the game in the bottom of the third. Mike Dowd led off with an infield single to third base. Hebert then put down a bunt in front of home plate. Bradley picked the ball up and threw high of the first baseman Hector Gimenez.

Two batters later, Patrick Brady brought home Dowd on a fielder's choice RBI tying the game at 2-2.

In the bottom of the sixth, Julio Morban reached on an infield single against Bradley. Paolini followed with a walk. Bradley then struck out Kevin Rivers.

After the strikeout of Rivers, Bradley was taken out of the game for reliever Tanner Poppe.

Poppe, who inherited two baserunners, got Dowd to pop out to first base on one pitch for the second out of the inning.

Hebert then followed with a base hit into center scoring Morban, which proved to be the difference in the game.

Bradley pitched 5.1 innings and allowed three runs on six hits (two earned).

Trevor Miller (5-8) earned the win out of the Jackson bullpen. Miller pitched 2.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

Matt Brazis earned his first Double-A save when he got Fellhauer to ground out to second base on a force play to end the game.

With the win, the Generals lead the Stars 3-1 in their series and have guaranteed themselves a series victory over Huntsville.

The Stars (16-18, 62-42) and the Generals (15-18, 46-56) conclude their series on Friday night. LHP Brent Suter (9-7, 3.91) will start for Huntsville. Jackson will send LHP Tyler Pike (2-1, 5.01) to the hill. The game can be heard starting at 6:50 PM CDT on 92.9 FM, 1450 AM and wtkiradio.com.

Huntsville Box Score

Jed Bradley needed 96 pitches to record 16 outs, so his effort was adequate at best.

Catcher Adam Weisenburger (OBP .382) doubled, singled twice, and walked.

Maryvale Box Score

Ouch.

Five Brewer pitchers, none of which distinguished themselves in this one, combined to allow 15 hits (four for extra bases), while walking ten, throwing five wild pitches, and fanning only two.

LHP Max Walla only retired one of the nine men he faced in an eight-run Angels 7th. RHP Gian Rizzo allowed Walla's final two baserunners to score before managing a scoreless 8th.

Six singles, eight walks, and an HBP for Maryvale bats. Second baseman Daniel Leonardo reached base three times.

Defensive work, please, Monte Harrison. This was Harrison's 13th game in right field, and he committed his first two errors there. But he has four errors in 11 games in center, for six on the season.
