Anyone have any information about the pitches Wagner throws? Velocity? Any deeply knowledgable minor league disciples have a strong opinion about what his future could be like?

He works 91-94, about what Gallardo did coming through the minors. He was primarily a 2 pitch guy last year; a FB with decent sink and run and slider that flashed plus. He's a low 3/4 arm slot guy so I'm not sure he'll ever possess the command necessary to be more than a #3. He wasn't as inconsistent as say Jorge Lopez, who had wide swings in quality of stuff and location from outing to outing, but he doesn't have the pinpoint command or nasty arsenal of multiple pitches necessary to be more than a #3 either.

 

Who knows though, if his change up and slider keep progressing so that he would have a consistently plus slider and change by the time he hits MLB then he might have enough to be special even without the command and be a #2. I don't really ever throw out a best case projection for any player so like Taylor Williams on this year's team I'm guessing he falls in that #3 range if he sticks as a starter. Peralta was 2 pitch guy with no command and a nasty slider when I saw him in WI so quite a bit can happen by the time a player hits MLB, there's always hope for that best case scenario.

There's a limit to what I can glean from the stats line (with young guys I typically pay the most attention BB and K rates), so it's nice to hear first hand accounts.

Hasn't Wagner earned a promotion to Huntsville for the final 6 weeks? What more can he prove at Brevard?

 

Wagner has had high GB/FB ratio in his career which might appeal to Rockies. A trade piece for Justin Morneau perhaps?
