Arguably the biggest win of the season.

We close the gap in the season series vs the Reds who have been beating us.

We look like we're going to gain a game on everyone in the division again. And we fight back after Nelson struggled and gave up the lead.

Anyone else seeing these "break in the action" videos that play on mlbtv now? Literally 5 different videos repeated the entire game and all of them cause buffering issues that mess with the actual game video.

YES! So annoying. I thought it was cool for the first 1-2 games but then they kept repeating the same ones over and over. GAH! Also on my PS3 i have to wait until after the game switches to "Top 1st" instead of "warmups" whereas before the update i was able to watch 10 minutes of the pregame. Sometimes it doesn't switch over until 7:15 and you basically miss the top of the first inning.

Was that celebration within the game's unwritten rules?

I'm sure the Cardinals are offended by Lucroy's audacity.

He showed absolutely ZERO respect there. He not only has the nerve to hit one HR, but he thinks it's alright to hit TWO HR's, the second a game winner while they're not only losing, but while they're without the games all time best catcher, MR. Molina.

I just watched Braun's at bat again. Now, I could absolutely be wrong, but once it got to 3-1, I never got an indication that Braun considered swinging. After the first strike and the second strike, he was staring intently at the dugout. On the 3-1 pitch, he never moved the bat. Same on the final pitch. If he were even considering swinging at either pitch, he'd have at least moved his hands to start his swing.

I realize I could be completely wrong. Braun could have made the decision to go for the walk all the way. But given how aggressive Braun has been this season, and given the game being tied in the bottom of the 8th, I was very surprised that he never even considered swinging at a single pitch.

The replay ump in NY thought that pickoff throw hit Overbay first

That's nice...

Way to go Roenicke!!!! He told Lucroy to swing at that pitch!!!!!

WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

I understand your sarcasm, but can we disagree without the insults?

Once again, no one knows if he was told to take or given the green light. This thread is provided to discuss the game live, while it is being played. Sometimes people say things in the heat of the moment about players and managers, it is the nature of the business.

Everything you say, I say, or anyone says will find people who agree and disagree...

carry on.

I do not believe he was told to take the 2nd or 3rd strike... I think he was taking all the way on the 1st strike, but no one knows if that take came from the dug out or from Braun himself...

I agree. Not to sound like Captain Obvious but these games are that much bigger to not only help yourself but take your competition down a peg. Basically, counts double from playing a non-contender.

We play a whopping 1/3rd of our second half schedule against the Reds, Pirates, and Cardinals. Safe to say our record in these 25 will determine whether we play October baseball or sit home.

Still don't understand how that bunt was a hbp.

Circling back in the replays as I could start watching until the 8th - I really want to hear the explanation from MLB on this one. Jeez - horrible call.

Way to go Jon Luc!! Glad to see him have a huge game

Lucroy, Braun and Anthony Rizzo got me 5 home runs tonight ;) And a walkoff win while the Cards are down by 5 in the ninth.

Tonight is a good night :)

And wow, Rizzo is turning into a monster. 25 home runs now, and 5 in the last 4 nights.

Yes, this is the case here.

There is no such thing as a 'take a 3-1 pitch sign'. Maybe in little league or when the worst guy on your softball team is up, but not for 3 hitters in the majors. That would be like deciding to go for 2 after Lucroy's HR; something that does not exist in baseball.

I'm still waiting to hear why Gomez's hit was a double yesterday after Heisey knocked it over the fence. What's to stop an outfielder from "accidentally" bumping a ball over the fence with a runner on 1st and end up saving a run?

Unless I missed a 100% clear replay, it looked like Heisey actually didn't hit the ball with his glove, but that the ball bounced off the top of the wall. Initially, I thought Heisey had hit the ball as well, but honestly looked like it was just an optical illusion given the angle.

Well shame on me because I just started a thread with this as the main topic. Initially I didn't see it, just was listening on the radio and they indicated on the radio that he hit it. I did see the replay later but just assumed he did hit it after hearing it on the radio.

No kidding

You have to have near irrational level of hate for a manager to think he or to think any MLB manager would ever tell one of his best hitters, if not his best hitter to take on both 3-1 and then 3-2, much less in the 9th inning of a tie game.

So what were the signs from the dugout about then? He wasn't being told there was a hit and run, because Weeks wasn't moving on either pitch. And Weeks wasn't stealing, though he did with Ramirez up. So what other signs might the dugout have been relaying to Braun?
