Following the Stars' lead, the Sounds have posted a blog page telling us which four former Nashville Sounds are in this year's All-Star Game.

Difficult to get all four, I promise. Remember, major league injury rehab stints don't count, although we also learn the names of two of those players.

So try to list all four (to yourself, not here) without consulting a master list.

Per his Twitter account, Devin Williams says he's "on the bump" tonight. Is he piggybacking with Woodruff?
"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Tyler Wagner with quite the start going tonight, and Roche with his second 2 hit game in row.

That's 27 straight scoreless for Tyler. In case anyone is wondering, Tyler has 2 plus pitches, an average 3rd, and has been dealing for nearly 2 straight years.

BP is like, 'meh...Nick Kingham is on the Pirates'. BA is like, 'who?'.

Well, he's the Cape League's most impressive pitcher as of today...

Cape Cod League News Report --

"Orleans Firebirds: This bird is spitting fire for Orleans. Kolton Mahoney (BYU), who has reached the mid-90s with his fastball on radar guns, is leading the Cape League in strikeouts. Mahoney, who pitched a no-hitter for BYU back in March, has fanned 28 batters over just 21 innings of work. On Saturday 6/28, against Y-D, he struck out a season-high 11 Red Sox hitters over six innings of work. He is now 3-0 overall on the season with a four-inning save over four appearances. He’s allowed just ten hits and three earned runs (1.28 ERA), with just seven walks."

Player Profile Page - Cape site

Mahoney is the Brewers 23rd round pick out of BYU, he pitched his freshman year there in 2011, missed two seasons while on a Mormon mission, and returned for the 2014 season. He turned 22 in May.

Will he sign before the deadline in one week on the 18th?

Final: Brevard County 3, Lakeland 1

Wagner leads 'Tees over Tigers, 3-1

LAKELAND, Fla. - Behind another dominant performance by Tyler Wagner (8-4, 1.74 ERA), the Brevard County Manatees upended the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 3-1 at Joker Marchant Stadium on Wednesday night.

From the get go, Wagner was locked in. The Las Vegas native worked around a jam in the third and caught fire in the middle innings.

After a lead-off single by Chad Wright in the fourth, Wagner went on to retire 16 straight batters. It ended when Connor Harrell's home run in the bottom of the ninth snapped his 27.1 scoreless inning streak.

Wagner's night ended after he walked the next batter, Jeff McVaney, on five pitches. The former fifth round pick finished with one run allowed on five hits. He walked one and tied a season-high with nine strikeouts in a year-best 8.1 innings of work.

In his last four starts, Wagner is 4-0 with an unfathomable 0.32 earned run average. He has surrendered just 12 hits and walked seven batters, which gives him an equally stellar 0.70 WHIP. With his effort tonight, Wagner now has a Florida State League-leading 1.74 ERA.

Mark Williams came out of the bullpen and had trouble locating the strike zone, but was able to close out Wagner's victory and end the Manatees (11-6 second half, 47-36 overall) three-game losing streak. After walking the bases loaded with two outs, Williams forced James Robbins to ground out to first to end the threat and the ball game.

The 'Tees gave Wagner some early run support, courtesy of an unsung hero. In the top of the third, Alfredo Rodriguez crushed a 0-1 pitch from Flying Tigers (4-15, 46-40) starter Josh Turley (7-1, 1.85) onto the berm in left for his first home run of the season. The solo shot gave Brevard the lead, 1-0.

Two innings later, Rodriguez struck again. Following a lead-off single by Parker Berberet, Rodriguez slapped one down the line in right. The ball rolled into the corner, which allowed Berberet to score from first with ease. Rodriguez motored into third with an RBI triple and the Brevard advantage was stretched to two.

After Nathan Orf struck out and Orlando Arcia flew out to shallow right, Tyrone Taylor delivered the next big blow. The top prospect drove a ball into deep left-center field, but it seemed as if Major League rehabber Andy Dirks was going to track it down.

However, the ball caromed off the edge of glove and rolled to the wall. Rodriguez was able to walk home and Taylor hustled into third with the second run-scoring triple of the game to increase the Manatees lead to 3-0.

With the win, Brevard County handed Turley his first loss of the season. The left-hander had a solid game, but was no match for Wagner tonight. Turley allowed all three runs on eight hits over seven frames. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Overall, the Manatees had another quality offensive performance. Three players - Berberet, Rodriguez and Victor Roache - recorded two-hit games. As well, the 'Tees tallied five extra-base hits - two doubles, two triples and a home run - en route to victory.

Brevard County and Lakeland will meet again tomorrow at Joker Marchant Stadium with the rubber match slated for 6:30 p.m. Hobbs Johnson (9-6, 3.23) will look to pick up his FSL-best 10th win against Lakeland's right-hander Yorfrank Lopez (4-6, 4.60).

Brevard County Box Score

Prior to the ninth inning tonight, Tyler Wagner had not give up a run since June 3rd. To put in to perspective how dominant Wagner has been, he had a 2.04 ERA in June and that was his worst month of the season. As mentioned above, his nine punchouts tied a season high. Victor Roache collected two hits for the second night in a row and is 5-for-11 over the last three games. Mark Williams earned the save and has now made 12 appearances without allowing an earned run since being promoted to BC.

Brevard County Play-By-Play

The Manatees scored a pair of runs in the fifth courtesy of two triples.

Brevard County Top of the 5th

Parker Berberet singles on a fly ball to right fielder Jeff McVaney.

Alfredo Rodriguez triples (1) on a fly ball to right fielder Jeff McVaney. Parker Berberet scores.

Sounds' Bats Silenced By Memphis In 8-1 Loss

Nashville's Halton Continues Hot Streak With Homer

Nashville Sounds

(MIKE STRASINGER )

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The first-place Nashville Sounds (49-45) had their chance at capturing the I-40 Cup spoiled by an impressive pitching performance from the Memphis Redbirds (44-47) in an 8-1 loss at AutoZone Park on Wednesday night.

Nashville never found an answer against Redbirds starter Tim Cooney, who struck out eight Sounds in eight innings while allowing just three hits.

Outfielder Sean Halton was able to continue his impressive run at the plate despite the result. He went 2-for-4 including a solo home run in the top of the seventh for Nashville's lone run of the night. Halton is now hitting .440 (22-for-50) in his last 12 games and increased his hitting streak to six games.

Third baseman Jason Rogers also picked up two hits in the contest, but he left the game in the top of the ninth after suffering an injury when beating out an infield single.

Sounds starter Michael Blazek appeared to find his stride after a shaky beginning to his outing, as he retired 10 straight batters after allowing Memphis to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Xavier Scruggs RBI double.

The wheels fell off for Nashville in the bottom of the fifth when the Redbirds scored four runs that were all charged to Blazek. Sounds reliever Jose De La Torre saw his string of six consecutive scoreless outings end when he allowed a solo home run to Ed Easley in the bottom of the sixth.

Nashville reliever Dustin Molleken made his first appearance since being placed on the disabled list on June 30, allowing one run in 0.2 innings while striking out two.

The Sounds will have one last chance to clinch the I-40 Cup against Memphis on Thursday at 12:05 p.m. Nashville will send RHP Mike Fires (6-4, 2.63) to the bump opposite Memphis RHP Boone Whiting (1-6, 4.26). Jeff Hem will have the call on 102.5 The GAME.

Nashville Boxscore

The Sounds had to use 5 pitchers to get through this disaster... did I mention how much I hate losing to divisional rivals on any level?

Nashville Recap

Jose De La Torre didn't do Blazek any favors...

Memphis Bottom of the 5th

  • Ed Easley singles on a line drive to right fielder Caleb Gindl.
Tim Cooney out on a sacrifice bunt, catcher Shawn Zarraga to second baseman Eugenio Velez. Ed Easley to 2nd.

Ortega's inside job jump starts Rattlers to 5-2 win at Cedar Rapids

Wisconsin shortstop drives in four, including three with inside-the-park homer

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Angel Ortega drove in four runs, including three with an inside-the park home run, to support solid pitching and send the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 5-2 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Perfect Game Field on Wednesday night. The win snapped Wisconsin's three-game losing streak.

The Timber Rattlers (46-42 overall, 10-9 second half) had Rafael Neda at first and Dustin DeMuth at third with two outs in the top of the fourth with Angel Ortega coming to the plate. Ortega had been at the plate in the top of the second with two outs and the bases loaded, but he struck out against Kernels starter Ryan Eades to end that inning. That would not be the case in the fourth.

Ortega send a sinking line drive to center and Jason Kanzler attempted to make a diving catch. Kanzler came up short and the ball went all to the way to the wall just to the right of the 407' mark. DeMuth and Neda scored easily. Ortega never slowed heading into third base as he was waved home by third base coach Matt Ericksion. Ortega beat the relay throw with a head first slide for the three-run, inside-the-park home run.

Wisconsin tacked on two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Wisconsin had DeMuth at third and Taylor Brennan at second with one out. The Kernels brought the infield in and Jose Pena's hard smash deflected off the glove of Bryan Haar at third base for an RBI infield single to score DeMuth and get Brennan to third. Ortega's shallow fly to right was trapped by Jonathan Murphy on a sliding catch. Brennan scored, but Pena was forced at second base to make it an RBI fielder's choice for Ortega and a 5-0 lead.

Rattlers starting pitcher Clint Terry tossed five scoreless innings, but got into trouble against the Kernels (37-51, 6-12) in the bottom of the sixth. Consecutive singles by Chad Christensen and Mitch Garver and a wild pitch by Terry put runners on second and third with no outs. Terry struck out Haar for the first out. An error on a grounder off the bat of Alex Swim allowed Christensen to score, but Garver had to hold at second base. That was all for Terry.

Luke Curtis, the newest addition to the Timber Rattlers bullpen came on to relieve Terry and retired the next two batters to keep Wisconsin's lead at 5-1.

Terry struck out seven as he scattered seven hits and allowed one run in 5-1/3 innings pitched.

Curtis hit Tanner Vavra to start the bottom of the seventh inning and Vavra tagged to move to second on a fly ball deep to right-center field. Christensen singled to drive in Vavra to make the score 5-2.

Barrett Astin took over for Curtis in the eighth and gave up a one out single, but got Kanzler to ground into a 1-6-3 double play, the third twin killing by the Rattlers defense in the game, to end the inning.

Astin retired the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth inning, but walked Jon Murphy on four straight pitches. Walker was next and his single to left put runners on first and third. Christensen was at the plate as the tying run, but Astin ended the drama with a strikeout to earn his second save of the season.

The final game of the series is Thursday night at 6:35pm. Taylor Williams (6-1, 2.87) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Chih-Wei Hu is scheduled to start for the Kernels and will make his 2014 Midwest League debut. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:15pm.

HOME RUN:

WIS:

Angel Ortega (3rd, Inside-the-park, 2 on in 4th inning off

WP: Clint Terry (2-2)

LP: Ryan Eades (5-9)

SAVE: Barrett Astin (2)

TIME: 3:05

ATTN: 1,597

Wisconsin Boxscore

Clint Terry gave up 7 hits and 2 walks in his 5.1 innings but limited the damage to 1 run with 7 strike outs and a couple of double plays, a fine effort. He's not going to blow anyone away stuff wise but he manages a high K rate regardless. Luke Curtis made his Rattler debut and allowed a run in his 1.2 innings. Barrett Astin closed out the final 2 innings.

Despite 8 hits only the incredibly steady of late Rafael Neda (2-4) had a multi-hit game... and he managed to not even get hit by a pitch!

Owlz rally past Helena

Provo (UT) Daily Herald

The Orem Owlz, as has happened often in the past couple of weeks, trailed early when they took on Helena Brewers on Wednesday night at Brent Brown Ballpark.

But the Owlz, as they have often in the past couple of weeks, rallied in the middle innings and went on to earn an 8-3 victory over the Brewers,

The victory helped Orem improve to a league-best 16-7, three games ahead of second-place Grand Junction in the Pioneer League South standings.

The Owlz trailed 2-1 early, but a three-run sixth, fueled by a solo homer from Zach Houchins and a two-run shot from Nataneal Delgado, gave Orem the lead for good at 5-3.

A three-run seventh gave the home team some breathing room, as Andrew Daniels and Bo Way opened the frame with a double and an RBI triple. Way scored on a wild pitch and Michael Strentz drove in another run for an 8-3 Owlz advantage.

And that was more than enough. Raman Rodriguez came on in the sixth to get starter Michael Bolaski out of a bit of trouble, getting a fly out to end the inning after one run scored and another runner was in scoring position. Rodriguez got out of a little bit of his own trouble in the eighth, getting a strikeout after a two-out walk and double left two runners in scoring position.

In the ninth, Jonah Wesley struck out two of the three batters he faced

Bolaski went 5.2 innings for the win, giving up six hits and three runs, walking two and striking out seven. Rodriguez got the win, giving up just one hit and struck out five in his 2.1 innings.

Andrew Daniel led the Owlz at the plate, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and and RBI. Houchins was 3-for-4 with a homer and two RBI, and Delgado was 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI as Orem pounded out 13 hits.

The same two teams play Game 3 of their four-game series tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Brent Brown Ballpark.
