2014-07-08 Phillies (Kendrick) at Brewers (Peralta), 7:10 PM CDT [Brewers lose, 9-7]

There just doesn't seem to be any excitement at Miller Park. Nobody cheering the team on. People just sitting there staring ahead like deer in headlight.

Come on people, make some noise!

It's so frustrating that it makes me want to absolutely scream. 13 hits in the game, yet we're 1-7 with RISP. And it's seemingly been like this for 10 games now.

And the Cardinals and Reds both win in walk-off fashion. Those teams are closing in on us in a hurry.

We have been assured that this division race is, in fact, over. Don't even worry about those teams.

Down to a 3 game lead.

Can we start the All Star break now please?

I know everyone is saying "rough patch" but at some point, this starts to become a pretty serious problem. Losing 7 of 8 is a pretty big deal. And the pressure just continues to mount as the THREE teams behind us continue to get closer and closer. It's really frustrating to watch.

Turning the games on, there is zero hope the Brewers will win. Even when it was 5-1, I figured the offense would get stagnant and the team would lose 6-5. I didn't expect a total dumpster fire from Wily's right arm and for him to deflate the team immediately upon taking the field.

I'm pretty discouraged with this team right now. I'll keep watching, but my sliver of hope from this year is fading - yes, even with the team leading the division. We've been waiting all year for the Cards/Reds to wake up and the Brewers to fall back to earth a bit.. it is probably happening. The season isn't over by a long shot, but there's not a lot to be excited about right now.

If Garza hadn't pitched an absolute gem on Saturday, we'd be talking about an 8 game losing streak. I understand that these types of slides are part of a long season, but the Brewers need to right the ship in the coming days.

Today was not that bad, we hit 3 HRs, had plenty of hits just not with RISP. Nothing you can do about that, it happens. Wily's line looks terrible but that second inning was full of crap perfectly placed infield luck hits. O well tip your cap. Last night was unbearable, guys on 2nd with 0 outs 3 times who don't score and we lose by 1. 3 times we could have scored without a hit.

Well said. And I agree 100%. This seems to be the fall we've all been waiting for. Just when we get our hopes high, we seem to come crashing back to earth. We could still figure it out obviously, and I'm still going to watch every game and hope for the best. That Cardinal series this weekend is looming REALLY large right now. And it doesn't look good the way we're playing.

Roenicke'd again.

I don't get this? What else was he suppose to do?

1) He moved Gomez back in the leadoff spot and Gomez had his best game in weeks.

2) Reynolds (HR) and Bianchi (1b) both were used properly and got pinch hits.

3) He handled the bullpen just right tonight without taxing it too much. He even got Wang some work without incident.

It is not his fault that the best hitters on the team (Lucroy & Ramirez) couldn't come up with a clutch hit tonight. Nor is it his fault that Wily Peralta imploded tonight.

I get that RR hasn't been the most popular guy around here but tonight was hardly any fault of his.

Melvin just needs to go out and trade for a shortstop, two bench outfielders, a bench utility player, some relievers, and four starting pitchers, and we are back in business for the playoffs!!!

*Edit* Oh yeah, and a first baseman.

Long term silver lining, if the current trend continues the rest of the way and we fail to sniff the playoffs it has to be the end of the road to RRR doesn't it?

I wanted to believe they would coast all year and run away with the division, but I knew there was no shot at that. They will get back on track. Everything going wrong for them right now.

How about bringing the infield in when the situation doesn't dictate it? Or letting a leadoff hitter swing on a 2-0 pitch in the 9th when a walk is what we need? Or not getting the starting pitcher out of the game when he doesn't have squat? How about a general lack of discipline at the plate and on the bases because he is an "aggressive" manager? The guy is a stooge .

I don't think this falls on RRR at all, not just this game but even the season if they collapse. Fact of the matter is, he's given the team as constructed by Melvin. The fact that we have that platoon on 1B hurts, that Thornburg and Henderson got hurt wasn't his fault (though you could argue he over-used Thornburg), having Wang in the pen as a basically useless piece unless a blowout (which there really haven't been many of) also isn't his fault. Jean Segura being next-to-useless at the plate also isn't his fault.

He's juggled the lineups and the offense has responded. The team is obviously pressing, and short of a miracle worker, you're not going to get guys out of the mental funks they're in until they have a big win or just start to settle down. It comes down to the players now.

I'm not a huge RRR fan, but every manager is over-scrutinized in this game. No one expected the start the Brewers have had, so he deserves as much credit for that as he does for any downfall. With that in mind, he's earned more time than maybe some around here want to give him.

Perspective. Thank you, topper09er. We're still in first place, and we will get better.

And sooner rather than later would suit me just fine. :)

LOL, yes of course that is all on him... Well this "stooge" is a manager of a 1st place ball club and also coached this franchise to a NLDS a few years back. He has a star player who is always hurt and hasn't been given a true first baseman in the last year and a half. Hopefully you have this same venom towards Doug Melvin also?
