Orlando Arcia named FSL Player of the Week

VIERA, Fla. – The Florida State League announced on Monday that Brevard County Manatees shortstop Orlando Arcia was named the league’s player of the week for the period of June 23-29.

In seven games last week, Arcia hit .485 (16-for-33) with two home runs, a Florida State League-leading 13 runs batted in and scored eight runs. He also doubled six times, tripled and stole a base.

Arcia recorded five multi-hit games during the week and fell one hit shy of the cycle three times. On June 25, he set a career-high in hits with a 5-for-5 performance against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. Arcia also tied a career-high with five runs batted in and was a home run away from the cycle. On June 27 and 28 in Clearwater, he went a combined 6-for-11 and fell a triple shy of the cycle both nights. In the latter game, Arcia hit a game-tying, two-run home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning en route to a 12-inning, 6-4 Manatees victory.

Arcia was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers as a non-drafted free agent on October 22, 2010 from Anaco, Venezuela.

Steve with the Huntsville club:

The Stars won their fourth game this season when trailing by three runs at any stage of a ballgame. The Stars racked up 12 hits, a day after they posted a season high 18. In their last two games, the Stars offense is batting .417 (30-72). Out of the 40 hits, only five have gone for extra base hits.

Joey Paciorek, who delivered the pinch-hit two-run single Sunday, has now hit safely in five straight games. In his last five, Paciorek is 8-17 (.471) with a home run and 4 RBI. Kentrail Davis went 3-3 with 3 RBI on his 26th birthday. Including Saturday’s game after his first at bat, Davis is 7 for his last 7 with four RBI. He has also been on base in nine straight plate appearances. Davis enters today on a seven-game hit streak and has been on base in 18 consecutive games, the third longest active on base streak in the Southern League. For the month of June, Davis is tied with Mississippi’s Cedric Hunter for the 8th best batting average in June in the Southern League at .344.

The Stars improved to a season best 25 games above the .500 mark with their overall record now at 53-28. The Stars did not homer last night, but still have hit 16 homeruns in their last 16 games and their 21 in the month of June are tied with Mobile for the most in June in the Southern League…Josh Prince went 1-4 with an RBI. After going 1-22 recently, Prince is now 10 for his last 24 (.417)… Nick Shaw did not play, but still his been on base in ten consecutive games…

The bullpen for the Stars tossed 3.1 scoreless innings Sunday and has now thrown 11.1 consecutive scoreless innings…RHP Jose De La Torre did not pitch last night. De La Torre has thrown ten consecutive scoreless innings… Since the Stars clinched the 1st half championship they’ve gone 14-9…In the month of June alone, the Stars are 14-11.

Bees edge Wisconsin

Burlington hangs on for 4-3 win

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

Rafael Neda is greeted by his teammates after his second inning home run put Wisconsin up 2-0 on Monday afternoon.

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Burlington Bees scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The Bees held on for a 4-3 victory over Wisconsin Monday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

It was the Rattlers (42-38 overall, 6-5 second half) who jumped to the early lead. Omar Garcia doubled with one out in the bottom of the second. He stole third and scored on a passed ball. Rafael Neda made it 2-0 in favor of the Rattlers with a two-out solo homer later in the inning.

Victor Diaz, Wisconsin's starting pitcher, pitched like that would be enough for him. The right-hander extended his scoreless innings streak to fifteen when he worked a 1-2-3 fifth. But, the streak would not go past fifteen innings.

Angel Rosa and Eric Aguilera singled to start the top of the sixth. Brandon Bayardi followed with a walk and the bases were loaded with no outs. The call went to the bullpen for Trevor Seidenberger to take over for Diaz.

Seidenberger fell behind Stephen McGee 3-0 on the first three pitches he threw in the game. Seidenberger came back with two strikes, but would eventually walk McGee to force in a run.

The Wisconsin lefty struck out Tyler Palmer for the first out, but he threw a wild pitch with Cambric Moye at the plate to let Aguilera score the tying run.

Ranyelmy Mendoza was up with two out and runners at second and third when Seidenberger uncorked another wild pitch to let Bayardi score the go-ahead run. Later in the at bat, Mendoza singled to knock in McGee and the Bees (44-36, 6-5) were up 4-2.

Burlington, the first half wild card in the Western Division, was forced to go to their bullpen in the third inning. Starting pitcher Daniel Hurtado left the game after the second inning. Trevor Foss, Cole Swanson, and Alex Blackford kept the Rattlers off the board for five innings. But, the Rattlers got something going against Blackford in the eighth.

Steve Halcomb and Johnny Davis started the rally with singles and they were bunted into scoring position by Chris McFarland. Michael Ratterree blooped a 3-2 pitch from Blackford down the right field line for what looked to be a game-tying single. But the ball dropped just foul. Then, Blackford struck out Ratterree for the second out of the inning. Blackford would walk Clint Coulter on a 3-2 pitch and that ended his day.

Alan Busenitz, the fifth Burlington pitcher of the game, entered and walked Taylor Brennan on four straight pitches to force in Halcomb and the Rattlers were within one. Busenitz got the final out on a force out at second.

In the bottom of the ninth, Busenitz struck out the first two batters of the inning. Halcomb kept the game going with a single. But, Busenitz ended the game with a ground out to earn his tenth save of the season.

Wisconsin swept Burlington in a four-game series at Community Field to open the second half of the season last weekend. The Bees came to Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium and took three of four games from the Timber Rattlers. The season series is even at eight win for each team. They will meet again August 27 through 29 in Grand Chute.

The Timber Rattlers continue their homestand on Tuesday night. The Cedar Rapids Kernels are in town for the first game of a three-game series. Wisconsin has named Zach Quintana (2-4, 6.02) as their starting pitcher. Cedar Rapids has Aaron Slegers (5-5, 5.75) set to start for them. Game time is 7:05pm.

The first 1,000 fans to attend this game will receive a bobblehead of Jim Henderson, a Timber Rattler in 2009 and a member of the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen since 2012, courtesy of American National Bank - Fox Cities.

Tuesday's contest is the first game of the three-game Military Appreciation Series. Active, reserve, or retired members of all branches of the military will receive a free reserved bleacher seat ticket to any of the three games in the series with a valid military ID or verification of form DD-214 at the box office. Friends and family members of the military member may purchase a reserved bleacher seat at a discounted price of $7.00 per ticket. Timber Rattlers players and coaches will wear military-themed jerseys and hats during all games in this set with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Hats and jerseys will be available in a silent auction that begins on July 1 and ends in the seventh inning of the game on July 3. Fans may phone in bids for the jerseys on July 2 and July 3 from 9:00am to 2:00pm by calling (800) WI-TIMBER or (920) 733-4152. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Fox Valley Veterans Council Emergency Fund.

If you can't make it out to the game, there are many ways to catch the action. The television broadcast will be on MyNEW 32's Sports Showdown starting at 7:00pm. The radio call is on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:45pm. The game is also available to subscribers of MiLB.TV.

So the "Wild Pitches" that were uncorked in the 6th, Chris said they "got through Coulter", not "Coulter never had a chance", so chances are they should have been blocked.

Victor Diaz' peripherals aren't going to wow anyone but he's still young enough they could improve as he moves up. Trevor Seidenberger has been on a bit of a cold streak, he's giving up runs in 4 of his last 6 appearances.

Chris McFarland (2-3,CS) and Steven Halcomb (2-4) had the multi-hit games for T-Rats.

Halton Powers Sounds To Fourth Straight Win

Nashville Regains Share Of First Place With 9-4 Victory Over Memphis

Nashville Sounds

http://www.milb.com/assets/images/2/5/6/82448256/cuts/HaltonRed_630_jv057fgi_oo4n5mql.jpg

(Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds)

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - First baseman Sean Halton homered and drove in three runs to lead the Nashville Sounds to a 9-4 victory over the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds on Monday evening at Greer Stadium in the opener of a four-game series.

Nashville (44-41) won its fourth straight game to pull into a first place tie in the PCL American Conference Southern Division.

Halton's two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning erased a 3-2 deficit and provided the Sounds with their tenth come-from-behind victory of the year. The slugger went 2-for-4 on the night and is hitting .440 (11-for-25) over his past seven games.

Memphis took a 2-0 lead against Sounds starter Mike Fiers in the top of the second inning when Tommy Pham belted a two-out, two-run homer to left-center, the outfielder's sixth roundtripper of the year.

Halton halved the Redbirds' lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the second when he slugged a solo homer to left-center off Boone Whiting. The blast was Halton's fourth of the year and first in his last 126 at-bats.

The Redbirds stretched the lead to 3-1 with an unearned run in the fourth, stemming from a fielding error by Sounds shortstop Hector Gomez.

Fiers took a no-decision in his first start for the Sounds since June 1. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in four innings of work, tossing 81 pitches.

Nashville rallied to grab a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Sounds loaded the bases to open the frame by drawing three straight walks from Whiting. After Joey Donofrio took over on the Memphis hill, the right-hander committed a balk to force in Logan Schafer to make it a 3-2 contest, then Halton delivered again for Nashville, roping a two-run double down the left field line to put the home team in front.

Right-hander Johnnie Lowe (1-3) was the beneficiary of the Nashville rally and picked up his first win of the year after tossing 2 2/3 scoreless frames of relief, fanning a season-high four. Whiting (0-6) drew the loss for Memphis after being tagged for four runs in his five innings of action.

The Sounds put the game out of reach by plating five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning against Redbirds reliever Seth Blair. Pete Orr, who is hitting .323 (20-for-62) over his last 21 contests, delivered the big knock for Nashville, drilling a two-out, two-run double to center to cap the five-run outburst. Four of the five runs were unearned following a pair of errors charged to Memphis shortstop Pete Kozma in the frame.

Memphis plated the night's final run in unearned fashion against Arcenio Leon in the top of the ninth when Orr booted a two-out Randal Grichuk grounder at second base, allowing Luis Mateo to score from second.

The teams continue the series with another 7:05 p.m. matchup. Right-hander Ariel Pena (4-6, 4.72) will toe the slab for the Sounds to face rehabbing Memphis right-hander Joe Kelly (0-0, 9.00).

Nashville Boxscore

Beat the Cards!

Not the dominance we've become accustomed to from Mike Fiers but I'll take a win. Jeremy Jeffress was fully warmed up and ready to go until Memphis gifted the 5 runs in the 8th. I may have just sent him out there anyway since he was already warm, but then again I could care less about saves.

Final: Billings 12, Helena 8

Helena blows lead, lose 12-8 in series finale

By Dustin Daniel / Helena Brewers

The Helena Brewers (6-8) gave up a 4-run lead on Monday on their way to a 12-8 loss at the hands of the Billings Mustangs (7-7).

The Mustangs would post 12 runs after falling behind 4-0 before the Brewers made the game interesting late.

Tucker Neuhaus lined his fifth double of the year into left with one out in the first off of Billings starter Mike Saunders. He would score when Greg McCall picked up a 2-RBI double later in the inning. Immediately following McCall's two-bagger, Mitch Meyer hit his third homerun of the year to make it a 4-0 advantage for Helena.

Billings responded quickly, tallying six runs in the bottom of the first off of Luis Ortega (0-2). Brian O'Grady knocked in two runs on a double to start off his hot night. O'Grady was 4-for-5 with 5 RBI, two doubles, a homerun, and four runs scored.

The Mustangs extended their lead to 12-4 when they picked up two runs in the second, fourth, and sixth innings. Ortega was knocked out after three innings, giving up eight runs on eight hits.

Four runs in the eighth and ninth for the Brewers injected some suspense into the series finale. With the lead down to four and the bases loaded, Dustin DeMuth came to the plate with two outs in the top of the ninth representing the tying run. Wagner Gomez, struggling to find outs, was able to get DeMuth to ground to shortstop Alex Blandino to conclude the game.

The Brewers now head back to Helena to host the Great Falls Voyagers in a two-game series. First pitch from Kindrick Field on Tuesday is set for 7:05 p.m.
