Jorge De La Rosa and Justin Morneau for....

What would it take to get both JDLR and Morneau from the Rockies. I don;;t think JDLR will give the Rockies a compensation pick....or will he? Morneau has a friendly two year contract.

If we start with Estrada, Morris and a decent AAA pitcher, what would we need to add or would that be enough?

De La Rosa should be available for his contract. Don't know why anyone who isn't desperate would want him.

Morneau is difficult to judge mostly because his injury risk is still there and he hasn't hit like this since 2010. So it might be difficult for Colorado and other teams to come to agreement about his value.

JDLR? Why would we want him for anything other than free? Our obvious need is still 1B, I don't think another starter is something we should be concentrating on at this juncture.

Man I will feel really bad for Overbay if we do make a move and he's the odd man out. Not saying we shouldn't aquire Moreneu, but it's hard to let go of a good quality guy like Overbay.

Would something like Jungmann and Rogers or Morris be enough to grab Morneau? That's a deal I'd make.

Thats the same exact package I thought of as well, however I don't think that would be enough for the Rockies to bite. We'd have to come up with something better than Rogers or Morris as the second piece to the deal. If they countered with Mitch Haniger would you do it?

Would something like this work?

Estrada One year of Arby left, not bad starter for the price

Morris Take the place of Morneau

Jungmann Six years as a number 4 or 5

for

JDLR We take the $11 mill contract and get a slight upgrade at number 5

Morneau One and a half years at an affordable price

Morneau also has the plus of being Canadian. I'd certainly be willing to deal a couple of mid range guys. Not sure what Colorado would be looking for.

Another plus, unless age & injury have changed things, is that he's always looked good defensively.

I doubt the Rockies would want a guy who gives up HR's like Estrada AT ALL, and if we really wanted to upgrade our 5th starter, we could do it for 500 K with Nelson, not 11 million. That's too much salary to add for too little return IMO. Morneau is a great target himself though.

I'm not sure the Rox are sold on Ryan Wheeler as Morneau's replacement just yet. That being said, their lineup is such that when healthy is good enough to absorb that change. But they do need pitching, badly. I not only like Morneau, I like LeMahieu as a utility guy and he could be had as well.

But I'd hold off till the offseason.

If the Brewers aren't comfortable with Morris at 1B, when it is an obvious need, I doubt any other team would want him there either...

The Brewers and the Rockies are in completely different situations. The Brewers are in the middle of a pennant race and may not be able to give a rookie like Morris a chance. The Rockies, on the other hand, are going nowhere. They'd save about $10 million by moving Morneau if you include the buyout in his option year. Morris may not be a top level prospect but he's got good power and hits for an ok average. He's exactly the kind of player Colorado could afford to take a chance on. Hell if Milwaukee were out of it this season Morris would certainly be given a chance in September here.

As far as JDLR. I want nothing to do with him. We already have a guy in AAA that is pitching well enough to be in the rotation now. We don't need one more roadblock in front of him.

I do see an Estrada trade this mid-season to make room for Nelson. Estrada and his HR's is an issue for him in the bullpen. He is a good 4/5 SP, but only a SP. If the Rockies would take him for Morneau I'd do it. However, in that ball park I don't think they will. I'm not sure though. Something tells me that the Brewers are thinking bigger that Morneau... I think we could add a big time player at mid-season.

As a general strategy would about dealing Estrada to the Mariners? There is obviously the relationship with Jack Z, Estrada would benefit a ton from the HR depressing park. It doesn't even have to be straight-up, but it could provide the kind of player to make another deal like with Colorado work. The Mariners could use some bats as well, but given their park I'd have to think they would rather not give up too much for Estrada and have players left to go after Seth Smith, who they already know can hit in a tough park instead of Morneau who might get completely hammered at Safeco (to say nothing of having too many 1st basemen).

There is a difference between a team out of postseason contention playing a guy versus one that is trying for the playoffs. I don't know if the Rockies are the team, but someone out of contention may be more than happy to give the Brewers a little something in a trade to give Morris a three month tryout. The Brewers can't afford to let him bat .180 for a month until he figures it out, when he maybe ends up batting .270 with a .750 OPS thereafter in his career.
