Chris Young

Looks like the Mets are going to jettison him. Prior to moving into pitcher friendly ballparks he was average offensively, and had a good reputation. Oh and even his poor OPS performance this year is better than any of what we had gotten out of our bench OFers. I certainly wouldn't want to pay that salary, but if he is released and its just the minimum that sounds like a great, if relatively modest move.

I'd rather have a lefty bat like Will Venable as long as SD doesn't want much in return but you're thinking is sound. Young's road splits aren't that bad: .250/.330/.375. If you can get him after he clears waivers, then the Mets would be on the hook for most of his salary.

A platoon option would give him more playing time, and some tactical options, but that it not really the goal here. One way or another our 4th OF will get ABs, if Venable is cheap in terms of prospects that is a step-up, but its hard to turn down an upgrade that could materialize in the next couple of days, while you wait for SD to get a new GM. Abreu isn't a bad option either, but I'm sure the Mets would like to cash him in for a little something on the prospect. You are getting a better bat, but worse defender, and one who can't really play CF anymore.
