6 run second for the 'Tees. They are trying to hold on to the lead late. Our old friend Efrain Nieves is in for the Blue Jays. Looks like they are trying to develop him as a sidearming loogy. Having a pretty good game versus the 'Tees. Yadiel Rivera with 3 hits so far.

Edit. Williams closes them out and the 'Tees take the road series from the 1st half champs.

Huntsville Notes from Steve:

On Sunday, the Stars lost just their second game of the season when taking a lead into the 9th inning. The Stars took a 3-1 lead into the 9th yesterday and they also took a 5-4 lead into the 7th of a 7 inning game on June 8th against Mobile and ended up losing 6-5. The Stars are 35-2 when leading after 8 innings. It was the first time the Stars had been beaten on a walkoff hit…

The Stars fell to 5-6 in extra-inning games this season. The 11 extra-inning games played by the Stars are the most in the Southern League. Pensacola improved to 3-2 in extra-inning games…The Stars are now 13-8 in 1-run games played, which is the second best 1-run record in the Southern League. Only Jacksonville at 15-7 has a better record in games decided by one run. Pensacola played their 29th 1-run game of the season which is the most in the Southern League. Pensacola has the 2nd worst record in 1-run games at 12-17…

Joey Paciorek and Greg Hopkins hit back to back home runs in the 2nd inning. It was the second time in the series that the Stars hit back to back home runs. On Friday, Nick Ramirez hit a grand slam in the 8th inning which was followed by a Jason Rogers home run. The Stars have now hit 12 home runs in their last nine games… Rogers went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts. It was his 5th game this year that he struck out three times in a game. In his last seven games, Rogers is still 11-26 (.423, 2 hr, 6 rbi)…Shea Vucinich has started each of the last two games going 3-8. He has a mini 3 game hitting streak and his hit safely in 5 out of his last 6 games. Vucinich in his last 20 games has raised his batting average from .081 from May 16th to .202 going into today’s game. In 13 games in June, Vucinich is batting .333 with 2 RBI...

Shawn Zarraga pinch hit in the 11th inning and was intentionally walked. He did not have an official at bat so his hitting streak is still at 5 games. He also has at least one RBI in 5 straight games as a starter. He has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games. In his last 12 games, Zarraga is batting .594 (19-32) with 10 RBI…Josh Prince was used as a pinch runner and did not get an at bat. On Saturday, he went 1-3 snapping an 0 for 17 skid. In his last 11 games though, Prince is now just 2 for his last 32 at the plate. Prince is batting just .106 (5-47) in June after he hit .319 in May… Hainley Statia went 1-4 with an rbi. Since returning to the Stars from AAA Nashville on June 5th, Statia is batting .313 with 1 HR and 8 RBI in 11 games. He was hitting .276 at the time he was promoted to AAA Nashville back in April…

Since the Stars clinched the 1st half championship they’ve gone 9-7…In the month of June alone, the Stars are 9-9. The Stars have the 2nd highest team ERA in June of any team in the league at 4.67.

Manatees starting pitcher Austin Ross, seen here in a game from earlier this season, picked up his seventh win of the season as he tied a career-high with 7.1 innings pitched in Brevard County's 7-5 win over the Dunedin Blue Jays on Monday afternoon at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium in Dunedin. Ross is now tied for second in the FSL with a 1.03 WHIP. (Dennis Greenblatt/Hawk-Eye Sports Photography)

DUNEDIN, Fla. - Thanks to a six-run second inning, the Brevard County Manatees defeated the Dunedin Blue Jays, 7-4 in the rubber match of a three-game set on Monday afternoon at Florida Auto Exchange Stadium.

Already up 1-0, Victor Roache slammed the first pitch of the inning to deep right-center. Blue Jays right fielder Nick Baligod chased the ball all the way to the wall, but could not make the play. After some confusion, it was ruled that the ball got lodged in between the two levels of fencing for a ground rule double.

After a wild pitch advanced Roache to third and a two-out walk to Brandon Macias, Nathan Orf stepped up to the plate. Orf - who had already singled and scored a run to this point - slapped a base-hit into left field to score Roache and give the Manatees (3-2 second half, 39-32 overall) a 2-0 lead.

The onslaught continued as Orlando Arcia roped a 0-2 pitch into left field to drive home Macias and extend the early lead to three. Back-to-back walks to Tyrone Taylor and Michael Reed brought home another run, before a major defensive mishap blew the game wide open.

The next batter, Cameron Garfield hit a double play ground ball right at the third baseman Gustavo Pierre. However, the sharply hit ball rolled right between his legs and into left field. The error allowed Arcia and Taylor to cross the plate to give the Manatees a 6-0 lead. That was not the only error on the play, as left fielder Dwight Smith, Jr.'s throw to third base went wide, which allowed both Reed and Garfield to advance an extra base.

Brevard tallied its final run of the rally on a wild pitch from Dunedin starter Taylor Cole (5-4, 2.86 ERA), which allowed Reed to score the 'Tees seventh and final run of the game.

That offensive explosion was all Manatees starter Austin Ross (7-1, 2.98) needed to lock down a victory. The right-hander was phenomenal as he faced just one over the minimum through the first five innings.

However as Ross tired, the Blue Jays (2-3, 48-26) made the game interesting down the stretch. After a run scored on a wild pitch and a RBI single by L.B. Dantzler trimmed the lead to 7-3 in the sixth, Dunedin made Brevard sweat as they put the tying run on base in the eighth.

After Ross retired Gustavo Pierre to start the inning, the Blue Jays slapped three consecutive singles to load the bases. Stephen Peterson was the called on out of the bullpen and struggled to find the strike zone out of the gate. The left-hander walked Dantzler on four pitches to force home a run and all of a sudden the Manatees' seven run lead was down to three.

With the tying run now on first base and the go-ahead run at the plate, Peterson dug deep and summoned his best stuff. The southpaw made Kevin Patterson look foolish as he struck out him out on a slider tailing off the outside corner for out number two. On a 2-2 pitch to the next batter, Baligod, it was first baseman Alfredo Rodriguez who made the play of the game.

Baligod hit a slow tapper up the first base line and Rodriguez raced towards the ball. However, with no one to cover first, Rodriguez had to beat Baligod in a foot race to record the out. With both players neck and neck, Rodriguez made a head-long dive and slapped the base with his glove before Baligod's foot touched to record the third and final out of the inning.

Mark Williams, who picked up the save on Sunday, came out the bullpen and dominated the Blue Jays to record his fifth Florida State League save of the year. The right-hander retired all three batters he faced, including a strike out of Santiago Nessy, to close out the victory.

Despite the disappointing end to his outing, Ross tied a career-high by going 7.1 innings en route to his seventh victory of the season. He allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out three without walking a single hitter. With the strong performance, Ross is now tied for second in the FSL in WHIP at 1.02.

Brevard tallied double-digit hits for the second straight day. Four players - Orf, Arcia, Roache and Yadiel Rivera - all had multi-hit games in the win. Rivera finished the day with a team-high three hits, including a ground-rule double and a stolen base. The middle infielder now has a four-game hit streak, during which he is hitting .500 (8-for-16).

The Manatees will look to continue their winning ways on Tuesday night, as they return home to Space Coast Stadium and open a three-game series against the Lakeland Flying Tigers (1-3, 43-28) at 6:35 p.m. It will be a battle of North Division All-Stars as Damien Magnifico (3-4, 3.26) will face off against fellow righty Kevin Eichhorn (4-1, 1.93).

Brevard County Box Score

Yadiel Rivera had three more hits today - two singles and a double - and is batting .333 over his last ten games. Rivera also stole a base. Victor Roache singled and doubled as he continues to hover around the Mendoza Line. Orlando Arcia and Nathan Orf each had two singles. Austin Ross turned in another decent start, working in to the eighth inning, and Mark Williams set the Blue Jays down 1-2-3 in the ninth.

Harrison gets his first professional home run. He's off to a really nice start. Love seeing all the walks.

I'll get Nashville on the AM side, at least Taylor Jungmann was much better this evening.

Osprey shut out Brewers, win first home game of year 7-0

By Dustin Daniel / Helena Brewers

The Missoula Osprey (3-5) picked up their first home win of the year and snapped their four-game losing streak with a 7-0 shutout victory over the visiting Helena Brewers (3-4).

Carlos Hernandez (1-0) pitched shutout baseball through six innings for the Osprey, giving up just four hits while striking out six. The Osprey pitching staff would combine to strike out 11 batters on the night.

The hosting Osprey put three runs across the plate in the first, after coming up with four consecutive one-out hits off of Devin Williams (0-1). With two aboard, Trevor Mitsui cranked his third double of the year to right to score Fernery Ozuna. Matt Railey then singled to bring in Justin Williams and Mitsui scored on a Dane McFarland sacrifice to wrap up the offense in the first.

Missoula added insurance runs in the third when McFarland had a two-RBI double off Williams to score Mitsui and J. Williams. McFarland was 1-for-3 with three RBI, a run scored and a stolen base on Monday.

Brandon Woodruff made his professional debut in the bottom of the sixth, pitching two innings while giving up a run on one hit and striking out three.

The two teams will face off again Tuesday night in the finale of their four-game series. Game time at Allegiance Field is set for 7:05 p.m.

Helena Box Score

Two of Helena's five hits came off the bat of Dustin DeMuth who played 3B tonight and batted 3rd in the order. After one week DeMuth is off to a 9-for-23 start in Helena with four extra base hits. On the pitching side Devin Williams struggled statistically with a final line of: 5.0 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 4 K. Of the seven hits Williams gave up, three were infield singles (including a bunt single) and only two were extra base hits (both doubles). Congrats to Brandon Woodruff on his debut, 2.0 IP with one hit, one walk, one run allowed, and three strikeouts.

Nice to see that Williams pedestrian line comes with a few caveats. 3 IF singles....

Devin Williams, Para, Gatewood, Arcia, Harrison, Coulter, Taylor. That (and I'm missing a LOT of good talent here) could really, REALLY look nice in 3-4 years. Thoughat least Arcia will likely come up first, the rest could move together.

Edit-Oh yeah, and the guy with the dominant slider and 97 MPH fastball who hides the ball and was drafted 1st was somehow forgotten about. Fantastic looking group.

Final: AZL Brewers 9, @AZL Indians 1

Maryvale Box Score

21-year-old RHP Angel Ventura made his stateside debut after three DSL seasons, and his start was impressive, just as his peripherals were last year when things seemed to click for him on the island. Then it was a matter of trotting out three college hurlers for their professional debuts, with only one run allowed amongst them over the final four frames -- 15th round RHP Caleb Smith of Rice (one HR allowed in 2 IP), 33rd round LHP Chad Reeves of LSU-Eunice, and 30th round RHP Taylor Stark of Delta State, so congrats to those gentlemen as we alwyas like to note the pro debuts here.

Seven different Maryvale bats each had one hit apiece, although the game's offensive star was CF Monte Harrison who was plunked twice (ouch), stole a base, and scored three runs. He also did this --

AZL Brewers Top of the 1st

Troy Stokes grounds out, second baseman Alexis Pantoja to first baseman Emmanuel Tapia.

Jake Gatewood grounds out, pitcher Leandro Linares to first baseman Emmanuel Tapia.

Monte Harrison homers (1) on a fly ball to center field.

Sthervin Matos walks.

Juan Ortiz grounds out, second baseman Alexis Pantoja to first baseman Emmanuel Tapia.
