Toronto series

AZBrewCrew
Just curious if anyone here is planning on going up to Canada for the Blue Jays series or if anyone has been up there for a game before. Possibly going to try and catch one of the Brewers games up there. Looking for hotel/transportation recommendations. Thanks!

Was up there for a Jays game in 2006 or so. We stayed in the suburbs and drove to the game, I don't remember traffic being a major issue (it was a weekend). Lots to do within walking distance of the stadium.

The stadium is drab and outdated, but the city itself is amazing. You could probably park your car once and not have to drive for a few days. Also, Tuesday is a national holiday in Canada, but I recall the traffic being very heavy between Hamilton and Toronto.

I have been going to Toronto for the last 8 years and have stayed at the Rodgers center's attached hotel (The Renassaince) for the past 5. The stadium is old and outdated but the surround area is great. Also, be sure to talk to your cell provider otherwise you can rack up hundreds of dollars in cell charges. Here are some drinking & dining suggestions. (All walking distance)

1. Best Sports Bar (They have a 39 foot HD TV. It is awesome. Plus 200 "small" tv's. - The Real Sports Bar - http://realsports.ca/BarAndGrill/Toronto/

2. Outdoor patio pub - Gabby's - http://www.gabbys.ca/

3. Late night grub - Burrito Boyz - http://burritoboyz.ca/

4. Regular restaurant / pub - The loose moose - http://theloosemoose.ca/

5. Higher end restaurant - Brassaii - www.brassaii.com

I went.to a game at skydome 3 years ago. I liked it there quite a bit

Nice city and I also enjoyed the stadium. I got to see the dome open and close and liked the way their roof retracts better than miller park. The stadium feels a little bit outdated but that was ok with me. Im a little tired of modern ballparks after having seen so many of them by now.

The fans in Toronto seemed vary tame and sedated. Now they lead the ALE so maybe it is different.

I stayed at Thompson Toronto. They have a great rooftop pool and bar with views of the city. I got a great deal there on Priceline. If you don't mind spending.a little extra it's worth it.

Had some delicious poutine and enjoyed walking around the city.

If you sit on the left field side and the dome is open you'll have views of the space needle, or whatever they call it there, which is cool. I like it when ballparks incorporate a surrounding area.

I've been to 17 of the current mlb stadiums and about 25 total. Would rank skydome right km the middle. Hope you make it. Please post a review.

I was there in '06 for the Brewers-Jays series. I would echo what others said about not needing to drive your car after you get to the city. I just took the subway around town or walked and it worked out just fine. As others said the Rogers Centre is now a bit outdated, but I personally liked it as well. It is weird that I can remember hearing it called "state of the art" as a kid when it opened up. In any event, have a great trip!

Well, it opened in 1989, a scant 6 months after the Bradley Center opened here in Milwaukee.

Now, which would you have called state of the art at that point in time? :)

Ha, good point. If I remember correctly, and keep in mind that I was only about six when it opened, I believe that the Jays were playing the Brewers (with Dave Stieb on the hill?) in the Skydome's first game. Seems to me that it was around August and the team played one day at Exhibition Stadium and the next night at the SkyDome. Now, I could be totally misremembering a fuzzy childhood memory, but without looking it up that's what I recall.

'Twas Jimmy Key on the hill, and it looks like they were at the Yankees the day before.

Can of worms opened. Molitor was my favorite Brewer. The day he signed with TOR (I was still in elementary school) was truly one of the saddest days of my childhood. I guess that overall that meant I had a pretty good childhood, but still, the point remains.

  • 2 years later...
For weekend I'll be there a room with field view is about $500 CAD per night and non-filed view is about $200-300 CAD per night. That's before taxes/ fees and parking. The Field view would be cool, but I'd want to see a game in the stadium also, and don't want to drop a grand.
