Top Plays of 2014

Bombers

Figured we should have a running log of the most memorable moments from 2014.

Jonathan Lucroy's grand slam vs the gritty Dbacks, after Braun plunking.

Brewers plate 3 on a wild pitch.

Date: June 21st

Video: http://m.brewers.mlb.com/mil/video/v33918329

IGT: viewtopic.php?p=900362&f=63#p900362

Summary :

1. Bases loaded with Peralta at the plate.

2. Wild pitch and the ball hits backstop and kicks up first baseline (important)

3. Ramirez scores from 3rd and there is a wild throw plating Reynolds.

4. Then the fun begins.

5. Friedrich (Rockies pitcher) isn't paying any attention after picking up the ball near the Brewers dugout. Didn't even bother throwing the ball to get Reynolds. So Segura takes a page out of little league and nonchalantly starts walking towards home. With not one Rockies player paying any attention, Segura takes off for home and slides in safe just past Friedrichs diving attempt to tag him.

6. We shall never see this play again.

7. I love baseball

Video: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/11493214/v33230743/must-c-clutch-gallardos-pinchhit-walkoff-double

IGT: viewtopic.php?f=65&t=31371

Summary :

1. Brewers blow a 5-0 lead, O's go up 6-5.

2. Brewers tie it in the bottom of the 9th at 6.

3. After a scoreless top of 10, O's get the first 2 outs to bring up Mark Reynolds (and the pitcher's spot next)

4. Brewers are out of position players. O's Manager, Buck Showalter intentionally walks Mark Reynolds, putting the winning run on first.

5. Gallardo pinch hits.

6. With a 2-0 count, Yovani doubles. Scoring Reynolds.

7. Pandemonium.

8. This is my favorite Joe Block call so far. He was seriously fired up.

IGT: viewtopic.php?p=907011#p907011

Summary :

1. Brewers get homeruns from Braun, Ramirez and Lucroy to take a 3-1 lead into the 7th.

2. After giving up 2 singles to lead off the 7th; Nelson gets hosed on a call where the ump rules a pitch that went off of Frazier's bat and then hit his hand as a HBP. Replay upholds bad call. Reds proceed to score 2 runs that inning to tie it up at 3-3.

3. On the 3rd pitch Lucroy hits a walk off home run to left field off LeCure

4. Uecker's call on Lucroy's HR becomes an instant classic. Listen to it in the MLB recap link above (About midway mark of video.)

I have a habit of recording highlights on my DVR in all sports, but especially baseball. I have done it for years, looking back I have everything from the 30 min Trevor Hoffman ceremony, a ton of Escobar at SS (just watched some forgot how good that glove is), Gomez catches, walk offs, big HR (two Uni-B, for real), great fan catches, etc. I usually end up with 15-20 one minute clips each Brewer season since I've had DVR. I always find it neat to look back. I have 15 from this year.

4-8, Phillies, Braun three HR

4-12, Pirates, pop up behind plate, Luc to Segura to Henderson DP to end 8th

4-13, Pirates, Segura dives in hole, throws out McCutchen

4-13, Pirates, Schaffer catch while running into wall in the gap

4-13, Pirates, Error allows two runs, show baby making crazy face in stands.

4-26, Cubs, Estrada bare hand play

5-22, Braves, Bianchi diving stop and glove flip (think this was over turned)

5-27, O's, Hererra diving stop at 3rd to rob Machado in 10th inning

5-27, O's, Gallardo walk off double

6-5, Twins, Gomez leaping catch at the wall

6-5, Twins, Gomez to Segura to Gennett double play

6-16, Dbacks, Maldy phantom hit by pitch

6-17, Dbacks, The clutch Luc grand slam

7-22, Reds, Luc walk off HR

7-28, Rays, Reynolds to Segura(bare hand) to Ramirez out at 3rd on blooper

Only can record them when I'm watching so miss some, but these are the best that happened while I was watching.

Anyone else save highlights on their DVR? They are neat to see, especially a year or two later.

Overbay's bases clearing hit in LA was ruled a double not a triple. He took third on the throw. I think that's the most significant hit of the season so far in that it capped an ulikely comeback, came with 2 outs, and set the tone for the sweep of the division leading Dodgers.
