Grady Sizemore

When I first saw he got DFA'd, I was all for the idea, but after seeing his stats this season, he's been pretty underwhelming. Not only is his batting average low, his walk rate isn't as good as it was in the past either.

It's not just his stats this year. He's 31 and his last good year was when he was 26.

Also, he doesn't play SS. Elian is the back-up SS right now along with being the back-up OF. His value is his versatility. It's needed because we're essentially playing roster spot short with Wang here.

I think I'd take a chance on a guy that hits RHP for a career line of .285/.373/.507 with an OPS of .880

Give him a few weeks in the minors, if he hits, bring him up and let him backup our three OF positions with the occasional start against RHP

Lot's of guys have a high career OPS. I'm sure Jason Bay is out there looking for work. Unfortunately, what a guy has done in the past isn't necessarily indicative of what he will do in the future. Sizemore hasn't been able to stay healthy and hasn't produced an OPS north of .750 since 2009. I liked him a lot in his prime but it appears he doesn't have much left.

If we're talking about strictly minor league depth, sure I don't see a problem with it, as long as he isn't taking PT away from the younger guys (Gindl, Schafer, etc.). But I won't expect much simply because he's produced in the past.

This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there.

Getting a backup shortstop is probably a higher priority but I would have no problem with them adding Sizemore. His defense still seems okay and to me he is a better left handed outfield option than they have in house right now.

Honestly I think his problem was that he played too much early in the season. Yeah how could you take him out with how hot he was, but it may not have been the best decision out of the gates after all he's been through.

I think if we signed him as our 4th OF mostly to back Braun/Davis up he could be useful to us as a LH bat, hes better than Logan freaking Schafer. Perhaps playing occasionally would actually keep him fresh and help his production. Dude just looks plain wore out to me at this point.

I only want him if he can play in the OF in the playoffs
