What to make of the Nashville rotation after the Brad Mills trade - Jimmy Nelson, Michael Blazek, Taylor Jungmann, Ariel Pena and...maybe Kyle Heckathorn?

That'd be two converted middle relievers making recent moves to the rotation.

It's quite possible Mike Fiers could return when the big league club goes back to a 7-man bullpen at some point.

"Veteraness"... Blah! For goodness sake bring up Tyler Cravy, I have no idea why Heckathorn is still around to be honest.

Final: Dunedin 5, Brevard County 10

Taylor's four-hit night paces Brevard past Dunedin

Manatees tally 15 hits in 10-5 win over Blue Jays, as Johnson earns seventh win

By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. - After a few quiet nights at the plate, Tyrone Taylor exploded with the bat to lead the Brevard County Manatees to a 10-5 victory over the Dunedin Blue Jays at Space Coast Stadium on Tuesday night.

Taylor put back-to-back hitless nights to the side by piecing together a 4-for-5 game at the plate. Milwaukee's number two prospect according to Baseball America, doubled, singled three times and drove in four runs.

The Manatees' (35-30) offense gave starter Hobbs Johnson (7-6, 2.57 ERA) plenty of support by scoring six runs in the second inning.

After three straight singles to start the frame by Michael Reed, Cameron Garfield and Victor Roache, first baseman Mike Garza stepped to the plate. The 'Tees hottest hitter roped a high fly ball to left-center field for a two-run double to put Brevard in front, 2-0.

Consecutive walks to Yadiel Rivera and Nathan Orf brought home another run to push the lead to three. That brought an end to the night for Dunedin starter Ben White (3-4, 4.98) as left-handed reliever Chad Girodo came out of the bullpen to try and stop the damage.

The first batter he faced was Orlando Arcia, who deflected a ball off the new pitcher. Girodo recovered and threw out Arcia, but Garza raced home to make it a 4-0 game. Taylor then blew the game wide open as he smacked a two-run single into left-center to make it a 6-0 advantage.

After Dunedin (46-22) added runs in the third and fourth on an RBI single by L.B. Dantzler and a solo home run by Gustavo Pierre, respectively, the Manatees padded their lead yet again.

Orf and Arcia led off the fourth inning with singles which set the stage for Taylor yet again. After a double steal put runners at second and third, Taylor lined a base hit into left field to drive in Orf and make it 7-2, Brevard County.

One batter later, Reed hit a slow chopper towards third base. Pierre charged and made an accurate throw on to first base, but Reed's speed was too much as he beat it out for an infield single. That allowed Arcia to cross the plate and extend the Manatee lead back up to six.

The 'Tees added two more runs off the Dunedin bullpen in the fifth. With two outs, Rivera singled to right and Orf walked to spark yet another rally. Arcia and Taylor then followed with RBI singles to right and center field respectively, to put Brevard comfortably ahead, 10-2.

The Blue Jays made the Manatees sweat out the final few outs by pushing three runs across off Michael Strong with two outs in the eighth inning. After a walk to Dantzler, Santiago Nessy ripped an RBI double to left-center to cut the Brevard lead to 10-3. After another walk to Baligod, Emilio Guerrero drove in both base runners with a double to trim the lead to 10-5.

That was as close as Dunedin would get. After Guerrero's base-hit, Mark Williams was called upon to finish the Blue Jays. The right-hander retired all four batters he faced to close out the Manatees win.

Johnson put together another strong performance as he picked up the victory. He allowed two runs - one earned - on five hits over five innings of work. Johnson struck out four and walked just one en route to his seventh win of the year, which puts him in a four-way tie for the league-lead.

It was not just Taylor who had a phenomenal night at the plate. The Manatees racked up 15 hits against Dunedin pitching and three other players recorded multi-hit nights. Arcia, Reed and Garza all tallied two base knocks and combined for five RBI.

The Manatees will look for the sweep on Wednesday night as the wrap up their three-game series against the Blue Jays at 6:35 p.m. at Space Coast Stadium. A pair of five-game winners will face off, as Austin Ross (5-1, 2.79) gets the call for Brevard against Dunedin's Florida State League All-Star Taylor Cole (5-2, 2.19).

Brevard County Box Score

The Manatees seem to be good for one of these games every so often where they struggle, struggle, struggle and then just unload on a team all at once. Ten runs on fifteen hits. Every player in the Brevard lineup had at least one hit. Tyrone Taylor went 4-for-5 with a double and knocked in four runs. He also stole a base, as did Orlando Arcia who had a 2-for-5 night.

With the Sounds playing in Las Vegas I'll get the recap up before I do my workout tomorrow morning.

Michael Blazek did not fare particularly well in the thin desert air giving up 2 HRs in just 3.2 IP and the Sounds are down 5-3 in the bottom of the 5th.

Arcia's recent tear is making me very happy as he has the 2nd highest AVE on the team at .272, while being -3.7 years for the league average as a 19 year old.

If he fills out his frame at all look out!

Minor League Roundup: The Stars Are Out

Florida State League (Hi A)

Jorge Lopez, rhp, Brevard County (Brewers). Lopez continued his stellar season, scattering five hits and not walking a batter for just the second time in 2014. The Brewers knew Lopez was a project when they drafted him out of Puerto Rico in the second round in 2011, but were piqued by his hard, sinking fastball. He’s still ironing out control issues, but has walked just four in the past 21 innings.

Brewers rally late to top Osprey 9-2

By Dustin Daniel / Helena Brewers

The Helena Brewers (1-1) picked up their first win of the 2014 campaign Tuesday with a dominating 9-2 victory over the Missoula Osprey (1-1).

Devin Williams threw six innings of quality baseball in the start, giving up just one run on three hits, while striking out five batters. The Brewers pitching staff would strike out nine batters as a team, bringing their season tally to 20 strikeouts.

Missoula would strike first, posting a run in the top of the third inning. Trevor Mitsui led off the frame with a double off of Williams. He would be brought in by the sacrifice of Matt Railey on a hard grounder to short.

Osprey starter Brad Keller would pitch five solid innings of his own, not allowing a run until the fifth when Dionis Hinijosa came in on a throwing error by catcher B.J. Lopez. Hinijosa would go 1-for-3 in the game with two runs scored and an RBI.

The wheels came off for the visitors in the bottom of the eighth, as three Missoula pitchers combined to give up eight runs in the inning. Wagner Mateo would give up four walks in the eighth while allowing six runs and not recording an out.

Tyler Linehan (1-0) finished off the game pitching for Helena, shutting out Missoula in the final two frames.

The Osprey and Brewers will go at it again at Kindrick Field on Wednesday in the finale of their three-game series. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.

SL ASG notes: Stars' Cravy shines on hill

Brewers righty's domination made him easy choice as North starter

By Guy Curtright / Special to MiLB.com

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- North manager Razor Shines didn't have to waste time mulling over who his starting pitcher would be for Tuesday night's Southern League All-Star Game.

The 8-1 record and 1.72 ERA of Huntsville's Tyler Cravy made it a very easy choice.

"There wasn't even a question," said Shines, whose Chattanooga team had to face the 24-year-old right-hander twice in the first half. "He's been by far the most dominant pitcher in the league."

Cravy moved from the bullpen to the Huntsville rotation a couple weeks into the season and has won seven straight decisions since losing his first start. Over 11 games since, he hasn't allowed more than two runs in any game.

With each victory, the status of the Milwaukee Brewers 17th-round pick in the 2009 Draft has jumped higher and higher.

"He's got the whole package," Shines said. "I'd be surprised if he's not pitching in the Major Leagues by the end of the season. He's been that impressive."

Cravy was that again in the All-Star Game, retiring the South in order in the first inning. After getting two groundouts, assisted by shortstop Ketel Marte of Jackson on one, the California native struck out Mobile's Jake Lamb to end his brief outing.

It was more like a relief appearance, which was appropriate. Cravy still pitches from the stretch as though he never left the bullpen.

That Cravy is more than capable of starting, though, became obvious long ago.

Cravy has 64 strikeouts to 15 walks over 73 1/3 innings and opponents are batting .184. His WHIP is a league-best 0.85.

Well, we're going to post it in the Transaction Thread, but will tell you here as well --

Congratulations to Tyler, it's on to Nashville!

It's the first trip to AAA for the soon-to-be 25-year-old (July 13th).
