What I don't really understand is how when guys like Carpenter, Rosenthal, and Adams outperform their draft position in the minor leagues, they soon become top prospects who are expected to perform highly in the big leagues (and usually DO), while when guys like Khris Davis, Scooter Gennett and Mike Fiers outperform their draft expectations, they are expected to flame out quickly and fail.

Matt Carpenter was never listed on a top 100 list despite .400+ OBP two years straight in AA and AAA, which blows anything Scooter ever did out of the water

Matt Adams was ranked #69 on the Baseball Prospectus list in 2012 after hitting 300/357/566 with 32HR as a 22 year old in AA. When Khris Davis was 22 he hit 22 HRs in low A

Trever Rosenthal was ranked between 39 and 45 when he was 22 years old. He spent the last two seasons striking out a batter an inning with a high nineties fastball and a killer changeup. When Mike Fiers was 22 he was a Junior at Nova Southeastern University. Mike Fiers throws his fastball at the same speed as Rosenthal's changeup

There is no grand conspiracy against the Brewers and their minor leaguers, they just haven't had many high upside players in the past 5 years. Congratulations to the Brewers for scrapping together a few decent ball players from guys without a pedigree, but none of those guys were prospects, and none of them deserved to be ranked highly before they reached the bigs. Jimmy Nelson is a legit prospect and he's been recognized as such. Wily Peralta was a legit prospect and he was recognized.
