Rodon was a late round flyer... but yea they still should have done what it took.

Brewers fans: Brewers are idiots for taking Jungmann/Bradley, who were highest ranked players based on industry consensus.

Brewers fans: Brewer are idiots for taking a pitcher they think is much better than industry consensus rankings.

That's not really the point, he might have been there at #41...

I don't have problem with the Brewers taking who they thought was the best talent, the problem I have is that he blew them away in the workout. When was the last time one of the players who wow'd in their workout with the Brewers actually was that good? There's actually a rather long list of failures there...

I'm cautiously optimistic at this about the pick, I wanted a lefty, I got a lefty even though he wasn't one of my guys.

Sounds like the same type of person that says Ted Thompson reaches in a draft. Ultimately nobody knows if the guy would have been there at 41 except Brewer management, and it's pretty damn obvious that they felt there was significant demand for him.

Carlos Rodon is not a compare for any of the players the Brewers took tonight - he was taken in the 16th round, because they knew the odds were against him signing.

FWIW, all three of the kids the Brewers took tonight were in attendance at the draft. I don't know if that will mean anything going forward, but they all took this seriously enough to make the trip.

Medeiros and Gatewood seem as though they will sign, I would be shocked if either didn't....Harrison is the challenge. I'm sure the Brewers know what he wants, or they wouldn't have invested the pick in him, and I'll bet on them signing him, because they have too much to lose if they don't. The Brewers won't want to lose the pool money on a pick that high, and there's no way I believe they didn't know what it would take to sign him before they took him. I'll bet on them signing all three of these players.

I expect a bunch of below-slot types to be drafted between now and round ten, which just intensifies the need to sign these first three guys. Even if the team goes over their allotment to get these guys, I can't imagine them leaving this talent on the table.

All three of these players could bomb...things happen, but this trio of young players has the potential to make a huge impact in Milwaukee. If they all pan out, you've got a tough lefty starter, a big power bat, and an electric athlete in center field....that sells tickets, and wins games.

They are not signing all 3. They might not even be able to sign 2 out of 3.

The Brewer's have never risked drafting a player early that they weren't sure they could sign, in addition if they don't sign the player they lose all of the slot money from the pool as well.

What is the logic behind this rule?

Being a Nebraska Cornhusker football player is the only game in town for that whole state. Those players are treated like Gods there. Harrison is sitting in a pretty great place. Either become a Millionaire Baseball player or be a Celebrity football player in a state that is rabid for Football

And, possibly Gilbert Lara at SS!

If I had to guess it keeps teams honest, that way they can't draft a guy they know is unsignable just for the pool money to go after someone who might be later in the draft.

Ha right, cause I've never posted about wanting the Brewers to operate with more of a long-term vision like the Packers do, or have compared Melvin to TT on numerous occasions...

I adequately explained why the pick gave me a moment of pause in other posts.

I wonder if there is a way to add in bonuses to the contracts for being added to the 40 man roster or making the Major League, or accruing 1 year in the big leagues. These would not be guaranteed, but would give the player extra for making it. That plus a little over slot should make a more tempting offer.

I checked to see if Harrison had ever faced Devin Williams but I don't think he did. They are from opposite ends of Missouri.

I would wager they have. I'm sure both played on traveling teams, and they're only about 4 hours apart. I'm sure they met in some tourneys. As far as high school, not likely unless it was a state tournament game.

Assuming we can get the three signed, love the picks. However, could the Brewers ever draft a LH bat high in the draft (1st or 2nd rd)? Just a dearth of LH bats in the organization from Arizona through the big club. Morris and Gindl are likely 4A players after that Denison and Delmonico are the high ceiling guys who very well may never get past AA. I guess there is Neuhaus too, but sheesh.

At least we added a LHP which is also a scarcity in the organization.

any relation to
?

Ha! My first thought as well but figured the reference was too obscure for most. Because I'm a nerd, I did some research and while they are probably related in some capacity (both are Hawaiian with Portuguese descent) Kodi is not Glenn's son.

A tip of the hat to our MiLB posters. You guys have done an outstanding job giving some input to the draft. I do not follow HS or College ball at all - so I know only what I read. I hope these kids can pan out.

So could we have taken Touki, Holmes, or Newcomb instead of Medeiros and still afforded Gatewood and Harrison? I am guessing not. That might be the only way the 1st day could have gone better

That's a good question, like you I would doubt it.

The thing is for this to be a plan from the beginning means that the Brewers were sure Gatewood and Harrison would fall to them. I don't think they have that kind of crystal ball. I'm guessing they really liked Medeiros and grabbed him when they could.

I second this. I know just a very little bit about a lot of these guys in the draft and I've relied on everyone here to fill me and whatnot. I appreciate it!!

I was going to post something similar to this one this AM. Split basically said the same thing!

I think that it is tremendous that all three players happened to attend the event. That shows that they care. If their expenses were taken care of too, wouldn't that, basically, be saying to the world that they're ready to sign since it'd be against NCAA rules to accept an expenses-paid trip for their sport?

What a great story that they could potentially have! They all, probably, met at some all-America event or something but they were all together as they go drafted, they can go through the minors together and they can come up to the majors together. It's almost Yankees-esque what with Jeter, Posada, Rivera coming up together.

This could be really, REALLY exciting for us as fans. I am really thinking that the Brewers will do all that they can to sign these guys. It could be the start of something really special.
