What could we get for Brad Mills?

Who took Fiers spot when he was moved up? Does Fiers just slip back into the rotation with no additional moves or can we pull up one of our deserving AA guys and move a few dominoes forward?

Figaro off the DL for Fiers. Cravy up from AA for Mills.

Perfect. Glad to see Cravy get moved.

One reason he was only traded for $1 was because according to his contract he had to be offered to every major league team as of 6/16. The A's were the only team that claimed/wanted him, therefore the A's had all of the power in the negotiation. The A's could have passed, in which the Brewers got nothing for him. If another team such as the Cubs had claimed/wanted him the Brewers could have gotten a little more but not a lot more. If the Angels - the A's chief rival this year for the AL West crown - had put in a claim then you have division rivals wanting the same player which would have pushed the trade return up.

Another reason the Brewers accepted only $1 for him was because the Brewers want to have a reputation among players that they won't stand in the way of a minor league veteran getting a major league opportunity elsewhere if there is no room in Milwaukee. This will encourage players like Mills or other fringe major leaguers to sign with the Brewers; they won't be stars, but you never know when a guy like that might be needed to fill a bench role or have a breakout season like a McGehee, etc.

Apparently none of you actually read the article.

Mills' contract with the Brewers called for the team to receive zero compensation if he wound up being assigned to another team's active 25-man roster. So whatever the Brewers received – even if it's $1 – is more than was required.

How does poking fun at the amount and joking around about holding out for $2-$3.50 indicate a lack of reading the article?

Sarcasm and humor.
