OK, Biloxi, Your Team Nickname Will Be....

Brewer Fanatic Staff

We already have a mega-Huntsville-to-Biloxi thread, so this seemed a fun distraction worthy of its own thread.

Biloxi baseball team name down to six finalists

By Tyler Bouldin, WLOX.com

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Milwaukee Brewers' Double-A affiliate in Huntsville, Alabama, is enjoying one of its best seasons in the final season before moving to Biloxi for the 2015 season.

At 39-18, the Stars are inching closer to a First-Half North Division title.

The fans in Biloxi are hoping the winning ways will continue and now those same fans have an idea of what the team name will be.

The club announced today that the fan contest to decide the team name has been broken down to six finalists: Beacon, Black Jacks, Mullets, Schooners, Shrimpers and Shuckers.

Fans can vote on which finalist is their favorite for the next two weeks on the team's website.

The winning name won't be made public for a few months because Minor League Baseball must give approval.

Over 4,000 submissions were given during the first phase of the contest.

So looks like voting is through June 16th, vote before then to be sure...

Biloxi Black Jacks has a really nice ring to it, imo

And I really like how the club is using the "B" from the classic ball & glove logo atop their website currently.

If only they had the foresight to use a nickname that starts with "m." Biloxi Moxie? Biloxi Millers? Seriously, if it's all about merchandising they really should have done this. Just change up the color scheme.

EDIT: the "Mullets" doesn't count.

I always though Biloxi Morons would be cool.

Although the plural of oxymoron is actually oxymora - darn.

Oh my. This is golden, particularly for a minor league ballclub from Mississippi. It should be done.

Voting in the "Name the Team" contest for Biloxi's new Double-A baseball team has come to a close with nearly 60,000 votes being cast on the team's website.

The name won't be announced until sometime in the fall following a process that includes trademark and logo development.

"Thanks to everyone for being so passionate about this process," team general manager Buck Rogers said Monday in a press release. "The team name and logo are going to represent this region very proudly. We are very excited to move on to the next step in our evolution."
