Really jealous of you locals able to watch this --

FOX Sports Wisconsin is presenting a special series on the Brewers in the Dominican Republic. The third special airs Wednesday, June 11 after the Brewers-Mets game, and is on the team's baseball academy and how it was established as well as the details and purpose behind it.

Here's an excellent article from FSW's Andrew Gruman filling us in.

Hey guys, seeing how our system is really breaking out, I thought it would be fun to rank prospects by current affiliate. Doing it this way sure makes it easier! It also helps me start building my tiers for our community lists.

Dominican Summer League Top 5

1. Franly Mallen - SS: Dynamic 17 year old infielder with impact offensive profile.

2. Nicolas Pierre - OF: Dynamic 17 year old outfielder with impact offensive potential.

3. Yosmer Leal - RHP: Talented righty averaging over a K/IP.

4. Joantgel Segovia - OF: 17 year old with .917 OPS through 77 PA’s. An unknown but outperforming higher profile prospects.

5. Yerald Martinez - OF: 18 year old with an .846 OPS through 115 PA’s. Leads team with 10 XBH’s.

Saturday's DSL Brewers game has been cancelled, so the team ends its 2014 season at 27-43, losing their last seven games.

Standings - Finished 23.5 games back of the division-leading Tigers' squad (51-20).

Team Stats:

Batting

Top 1/3 in the league in most hitting categories (11th of 36 clubs in OPS at .687), did not fare quite as well in drawing walks, avoiding strikeouts, or in stolen base percentage

Pitching

34th of 36 teams in WHIP at 1.59, also 34th in ERA at 5.08; also allowed 108 unearned runs in 70 games, which is not out of the ordinary in this league. Didn't walk an obscene amount, but didn't fan enough, either

Individual Stats

There was one unquestioned breakout star, 17-year-old first-year pro, Venezuelan OF Joantgel Segovia, an unheralded signing last offseason. Segovia won the DSL batting title with a stunning .384 average. Segovia turns 18 in November. Amazingly, he only fanned 19 times in 224 AB's, walking more often than that (24). Only 10 of 86 hits went for extra bases (no HR's), and he was only successful in 6 of 14 stolen base attempts, although that rate improved as the season went on. At 6'1", 175, the right-handed bat should fill out into those tools, at least to some extent.

The brightest light among the pitchers was arguably 19-year-old 3rd year pro Dominican LHP Joan De La Cruz, who in 12 starts, struck out 70 in 60.2 innings. But you'll notice there weren't a lot of stellar candidates among the arms.

Thanks so much Link Reporter Brad, for all your DSL coverage this summer, please chime in with any Miller Park Prospects insights (you too, fellow readers, chime in here), and we'll move this and any subsequent DSL posts in this thread to the 2014 DSL thread later on.

What a classy gesture by Carlos Gomez, taking all the Latin prospects who are stateside, out for a motivational evening dinner.

It's nice to read things like this. A little effort can mean a lot to a young person. I like how Gomez acknowledged those that did this for him a decade ago.

It was like the story Tim Dillard told - how Latroy Hawkins took him to a clothing store in NYC and bought him a couple of suits. And how Hawk said Kirby Puckett had done that for him when he was a rookie. That was cool.
