Another Daily Honor from Baseball America --

PITCHER OF THE DAY: Damien Magnifico, rhp — High Class A Brevard County (Brewers).

Magnifico was brilliant, sparkling, wonderful, tremendous, and probably some other adjective that we're missing. The 23-year-old righthander who brings his heat up to 100 mph but lacks much in the way of offspeed offerings pitched a complete game shutout with two hits and a walk on Monday. He struck out five, and this season has worked to a 2.37 ERA in nine starts in the Florida State League.

From Monday's Nashville win --

Nashville pulled into the lead with a three-run outburst in the sixth. Caleb Gindl drew a leadoff walk and hustled to third on Morris' single to right before scoring on a Walters wild pitch to make it a 3-2 contest. After Justin Marks took over on the Omaha hill, Matt Pagnozzi bunted the runners into scoring position before Taylor Green (2-for-4) delivered again for the Sounds, slapping an opposite-field, two-run double to left to give the home team a 4-3 advantage.

AUDIO: Taylor Green 2-Run Double

Kevin Mattison belted a one-out solo homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to power the Nashville Sounds to a walkoff 5-4 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers on Monday evening at Greer Stadium in the opener of a four-game series. Mattison's game-ending blast, his third big fly of the year, came against Ramon Troncoso and gave the first-place Sounds (24-20) their second last at-bat win of the year.

Perhaps something to watch --

No real reason for Sean Halton to exit after his groundout here:

Nashville Bottom of the 8th

Sean Halton grounds out to first baseman Matt Fields.

Hunter Morris pops out to third baseman Christian Colon.

Matt Pagnozzi strikes out swinging.

Omaha Top of the 9th

Defensive switch from center field to right field for Caleb Gindl.

Defensive Substitution: Kevin Mattison replaces right fielder Sean Halton, batting 4th, playing center field.

Rattlers take game one from Kane County

Wisconsin beats Cougars 11-1

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Clint Coulter drove in four runs and Andy Moye made a solid start for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in game one of a doubleheader against the Kane County Cougars on Tuesday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers defeated Kane County 11-1.

Chris McFarland and Coulter gave the Timber Rattlers an early lead. McFarland singled with one out. Coulter doubled to left on the next pitch and McFarland scored all the way from first for a 1-0 advantage.

Coulter made it 3-0 in the bottom of the second inning with a two-out, two-run double.

Kane County (28-16) got to Timber Rattlers Moye for a run in the top of the third. Ben Carhart singled and Will Remillard doubled to put runners on second and third with no outs. Jacob Rogers grounded out with one away to score Carhart from third, but that was it for the Cougars in the fourth.

The Timber Rattlers (21-22) responded in a big way in the bottom of the fourth. Wisconsin scored five runs on five hits as they sent nine men to the plate to take an 8-1 lead. Johnny Davis started the inning with a one out single. McFarland tripled to right to drive in Davis. Coulter picked up his fourth RBI of the game when he singled through the drawn-in infield to send McFarland home.

Jose Pena drew a walk and Michael Ratterree doubled down the line in left to get both Coulter and Pena home. Taylor Brennan capped the inning with an RBI single to center that scored Ratterree.

Moye allowed a run on seven hits with four strikeouts and no walks in 5-1/3 innings.

The Rattlers put the game away in the bottom of the sixth. Coulter drew a leadoff walk and Pena followed with a single. Ratterree doubled and Coulter scored. A wild pitch with Brennan at the plate let Pena score. Brennan finished off the scoring in game one with a single to drive in Ratterree.

Wisconsin Game 1 Boxscore

Quite the offensive explosion in game 1 and welcome back Andy Moye. Chris Razo pitched well finishing the game off.

Chris McFarland (2-4,2B) broke out of his slump while Clint Coulter (3-3,2 2B,BB), Jose Pena (2-2,2 BB), and Michael Ratterree (2-4, 2 2B) contributed multi-hit games of their own.

Just a note that a PO is also recorded as a CS even though it was only one event.

With Ben Carhart batting, Jacob Hannemann picked off and caught stealing 2nd base, catcher Clint Coulter to first baseman Rafael Neda to second baseman Christopher McFarland to pitcher Andy Moye.

Regardless Coulter had his best all around game of the season.

Kane County earns split with 1-0 win over Rattlers

Cougars outduel Wisconsin in game two

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Kane County Cougars split Tuesday's doubleheader with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium with a 1-0 victory in game two. Ben Carhart drove in the only run of the game with a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth.

The game belonged to the pitchers, especially the starters. Barrett Astin made the start for Wisconsin and allowed two hits while striking out seven and walking none over seven shutout innings. Justin Amlung gave up three hits and struck out five without walking a batter as he match Astin with seven scoreless frames.

Wisconsin (21-23) got a first inning single from Angel Ortega in the bottom of the first and he stole second with two outs. But, was left stranded by Amlung. Ortega was the only Timber Rattler to reach second base in the game.

The other hits for Wisconsin were a one out single by Taylor Brennan in the fifth and a two out single by Johnny Davis in the sixth. Brennan was wiped out on a 6-4-3 double play. Davis was picked off in a rundown.

Kane County (29-16) got their first hit in the third inning on a leadoff single by Cael Brockmeyer, but he was erased on a force play.

Astin matched his longest outing and the most strikeouts in a single game as a professional with his performance on Tuesday.

The bullpens took over in the eighth inning. Mark Williams put a zero on the board in the top of the eighth and James Pugliese tossed a perfect bottom of the eighth.

Williams appeared headed for another scoreless inning in the ninth when he retired the first two batters. But, he walked Carlos Penalver on four straight pitches. Penalver stole second to get into scoring position on the first pitch to Carhart. Williams got ahead of Carhart 0-2. Carhart fouled off one two-strike pitch, took another, and fouled off one more pitch. Then, he sent a broken-bat liner to center and Penalver scored the run to put the Cougars up 1-0.

Pugliese set Wisconsin down in order in the bottom of the ninth.

Wisconsin was shutout for the first time this season in the second game of the doubleheader - their 44th game of the 2014 season.

The nightcap of the twinbill was the fourth extra inning game in the last five games for the Timber Rattlers. Wisconsin is 1-3 in those last four games that have gone past regulation.

The final game of the series is set for Wednesday night. Victor Diaz (1-1, 3.77) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Duane Underwood (0-1, 2.92) is set to start for the Cougars. Game time is 6:35pm.

A player magnet featuring Timber Rattlers pitcher Taylor Williams will be given to the first 500 fans to attend this game. This is magnet number one in a series of four that will be given away during the 2014 season from Lamers Bus Lines. Enjoy Cher-Make hotdogs, Pepsi products, and Miller beer for $1 on a WIXX Bang for Your Buck Night on Wednesday, too.

If you can't make it out to the ballpark, there are many ways to catch the action. MyNEW 32's Sports Showdown is set to televise the game beginning with their pregame show at 6:00pm. The radio broadcast may be heard on AM1280 or IHeartRadio starting with the pregame show at 6:15pm. MiLB.TV subscribers may tune in on the internet.

A sweep would have made my day but it wasn't in the cards this afternoon. Regardless it was quite the pitching affair in game 2 but thumbs down to the bats for going silent and wasting such a nice effort.

Sounds Fall To Chasers, 4-1

Nashville Sounds

(MIKE STRASINGER )

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds managed only one run, striking out 13 times, in Tuesday morning's 4-1 loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers before a season-high Greer Stadium crowd of 9,889 fans on Education Day.

Outfielder Sean Halton helped the Sounds out to a 1-0 lead in the team's final pre-noon start of the season by ripping a single into left field to score Irving Falu in the first inning.

The Storm Chasers answered in the top of the second with a run courtesy of Melky Mesa's RBI-single, and took the lead in the fourth on Matt Fields' two-out RBI-double off of Sounds starter Ariel Pena (2-4).

Pena celebrated his 25th birthday with a quality start, limiting Omaha to two runs on four hits over six innings of work. The right-handed Dominican took the loss, however, exiting the game after the sixth trailing 2-1. He fanned six batters and walked four.

Reliever Kyle Heckathorn worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning, but surrendered a two-run home run to Omaha's designated hitter Carlos Peguero in the eighth, which gave the visitors the 4-1 advantage.

Nashville received a two-hit performance from Eugenio Velez, while infielder Taylor Green extended his hit streak to a season-best five games with a single in the seventh inning. He holds the team's longest active hit streak.

Omaha starter John Lamb (2-5) collected the win, his second, fanning seven Sounds batters and holding Nashville to one run on six hits through 5 1/3 innings. Spencer Patton got the save, his seventh.

The Sounds will host a doubleheader with the Omaha Storm Chasers (AAA-Royals) on Wednesday at Greer Stadium. RHP Mike Fiers (6-1, 2.01) takes the start in the opener opposite RHP Sugar Ray Marimon (3-2, 2.41), while RHP Michael Blazek (0-2, 5.40) will start in the nightcap against Omaha lefty Ryan Verdugo (NR). Broadcaster Jeff Hem has the call on 102.5 The Game.

Nashville Boxscore

Can the Ariel Pena who started the season please come back? 16 strike outs against 3 walks in those first 2 starts... ohh what could be. I'm ready to cut ties with Kyle Heckathorn, he's not as bad as he's pitched this season but the problem is he's just not that good either. Eric Marzec went scoreless in his 2nd AAA outing, hopefully he sticks longer than last time.

A pretty lackluster game from the offense even though they scattered 8 hits.

Final: Brevard County 0, Palm Beach 1 (11 Innings)

Bradley's brilliant performance wasted in 11-inning loss

Brevard falls to Palm Beach on walk-off in series opener

By Justin Rocke / Brevard County Manatees

JUPITER, Fla. - Despite Jed Bradley putting together the best start of his professional career, the Brevard County Manatees fell 1-0, in walk-off fashion to the Palm Beach Cardinals at Roger Dean Stadium on Tuesday night.

On a 0-2 pitch, Bruce Caldwell singled to right field off Manatees' reliever Stephen Peterson. With the winning run on base and nobody out, Brevard third baseman Nicky Delmonico played in on the grass, expecting a bunt from Breyvic Valera.

However, Valera elected not to sacrifice. He chopped one over the head of Delmonico into left field and put the winning run in scoring position. Ildemaro Vargas proceeded to sacrifice the runners to second and third and the Manatees (23-20) countered by intentionally walking Starlin Rodriguez to load the bases.

Peterson jumped ahead in the count 1-2 on Luke Voit, but things took a turn for the worst. Voit, who was playing in his first game with the club, lined the next pitch into center field to score Caldwell and give the Cardinals (19-26) the victory.

The heart-crushing ending put a damper on an absolutely brilliant performance by Bradley (4-2, 2.67 ERA). The Brewers' first-round pick in 2011 twirled his best outing of the year and of his pro career.

The left-hander did not allow a run over a career-high nine innings, while allowing four hits and striking out three without walking a batter. Bradley's control was spot on as the former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket only reached one three-ball count to the 31 batters he faced.

Bradley's performance was another in a long line of amazing outings put together by the Manatees' pitching staff. Over the course of their current five-game road trip, Brevard County's starters have a 0.25 ERA, allowing just two runs - one earned - over 36 innings.

Bradley remained poised when Palm Beach put runners in scoring position. After a Rodriguez double and an Alex Mejia single in the fourth, Bradley induced a double play ball off the bat of Nick Martini to get out of the frame.

The left-hander had to tight rope through a similar situation in the ninth. Valera, who led off the inning with a single, advanced to third with two outs on a sacrifice bunt and a ground out to second.

That brought Voit to the plate, who smoked another ground ball up the middle. Yadiel Rivera made an incredible diving stop, got to his feet and made a perfect strike to first to get Brevard out of the inning and into extras.

Bradley's counterpart, Thomas Lee (4-2, 2.93), matched him stride-by-stride. Lee, who went undrafted out of Sonoma State, threw eight scoreless innings in the no decision. The right-hander allowed three hits and struck out three, without walking a batter.

Lee wasn't the only Cardinal pitcher who dominated the Manatees' hitters. As a team, Brevard mustered just three hits on the night, all singles by Orlando Arcia, Tyrone Taylor, and Rivera. Arcia's single in the sixth was the last hit for the 'Tees as their final 16 batters were retired in a row.

The Manatees will battle the Cardinals again on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. in the second game of a four-game set. Brevard County will turn to right-hander Jorge Lopez (5-2, 3.51), who is looking for his fifth consecutive victory. Palm Beach will counter with fellow righty Joe Cuda (0-5, 9.10).

Brevard County Box Score

Brevard County Play-By-Play

Brevard's only real chance to get anything going was wiped out when nathan Orf grounded into a double play

Brevard County Top of the 6th

Yadiel Rivera singles on a ground ball to center fielder Nick Martini.

Nathan Orf grounds into a double play, shortstop Alex Mejia to second baseman Breyvic Valera to first baseman Luke Voit. Yadiel Rivera out at 2nd.

Orlando Arcia singles on a ground ball to shortstop Alex Mejia.

Tyrone Taylor grounds out, third baseman Ildemaro Vargas to first baseman Luke Voit.
