It's May, and seven of nine players in the lineup tonight have an OBP below .300...

When are Melvin & Co. going to do something about 1B/LF???

That's just frightening.

I look at our record, then I look at our stats. Then I look at our record, and then look again at our stats.

Something doesn't add up.

I guess being the third most talented team in baseball means we win even when the numbers are ugly. :laughing

Ok, time for MLB.tv.

Dear God, please let it work, and please let me not jinx the Brewers by watching the game. :)

How are all you guys doing tonight?

Our talent level is WAY below our record, and our record will come back to earth.

Despite the 4 runs today, our offense is absolutely AWFUL! If it were not for the 3 errors by Chicago, we might be getting shut out right now. I honestly don't know how this team scores right now.

I'm sure the pitchers feel sick knowing that if we fall behind at all during the game, our odds of coming back are very very low...

The Brewers wRC+ is 93. So no they are not awful. They are slightly below average and 7th in the NL.

TBWS,

So, what do you think is the chief reason for our offense being so ineffective? Braun's being out hurt, but outside of Gomez and Lucroy, has anybody else on our offense been really good this year? Rickie's been a pleasant surprise in a limited role. But Khris Davis and Jean Segura have been way below where I expected them (though Khris has had some bit hits leading up to, or in the extra innings, and I think Jean is showing signs of breaking out of it).

Ramirez was good starting out, but he's been really bad as of late. Scooter's been so so.

Is it out hitting coach not seeing and correcting problems. Is it our hitters just going up there hacking?

You know it's been bad when I am pleasantly surprised by Reynold's near .750 OPS.

I just hope our pitching holds up.

Off topic for sure, but three cards picked up this week.

I bet Robin could still get better than a .300 OBP, even at age 58.

Will Smith getting jiggy with it. That was just a nasty slider.

I think our hitters not being patient is a big reason. I agree with those that say Gomez has been better as a first pitch swinger, but I think part of the reason opposing starting pitchers have been effective is because we have so many innings where we go 1-2-3 and force the other team to throw less than 10 pitches an inning.

I'd guess (though it doesn't hold today), that in games where we force the opposing pitcher towards 100 pitches through 5-6 innings, we are far more successful against the bullpen, but if we aren't patient, and we allow the opposing starter to make it through 8 innings, we're only facing the closer in the opposing bullpen.

As noted before, we have a VERY weak bench. We can afford to "break in" Davis in LF, if (and only IF) we get some production from 1B. Right now, I'd venture that our production at 3B, 1B, and LF have been awful. We've had some nights where our production in RF and SS has been awful. CF/C are about the only places we're performing above average, and 2B has been average.

We simply can't afford to have anyone hurt, because we start each night with 2-3 huge holes in our lineup (LF and 1B) even if everyone is healthy. That just isn't going to cut it for a playoff team. If we solidify 1B, Reynolds can be a solid backup 1B/3B. But right now, moving Reynolds to 3B to cover AR doens't help at all because we get another noodle bat in the lineup.

I'm fine with LS getting 40-50 starts to spell Gomez, Davis, and Braun, but our other replacements (Gindl, Herrera, etc...) have been terrible in the OF in addition to having poor production from 1B/3B...

The pitching staff is positions favorably to deal with injuries, I'd call our offense a bottom 1/3 offense right now in MLB. Part of it is injuries, but every team has injuries. It just means you can't have a crappy bench if you want to be decent.

Votto might be injured pretty good. Undergoing an MRI.
What happened to Votto?

Another guy going on the DL on my team? Please God, no more. I just got Braun back, so now Votto is going to join Mesoraco, Jay Bruce, Michael Cuddyer. Great, lol.

I guess you are referring to some kind of fantasy baseball?

Jean now 7 for his last 18 at the plate. Average raised from .242 to .261.

What a boost it would be to this offense if he gets hot. Especially ahead of Braun.
