Gomez on cover of Sports Illustrated

Awesome! I'm assuming it's not a regional cover or something, right?

Here's some (extremely difficult without looking it up) trivia question for everyone:

By my research, Carlos Gomez is now the sixth active Brewer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Who are the other four? (Hint: it's not four separate covers) (Note: one of the six is not clearly identifiable from the cover alone)

1) ???

2) ???

3) ???

4) ???

5) ???

6) Carlos Gomez (2014)

*Edit* Oh, the MLBlogs link ruins three of the five... Don't look if you want to guess!

I would have to go with;

CC-Pitching us into the playoffs.

Molitor-Hitting streak?

Yount-MVP

Braun-MVP/The whole roids saga.

Prince-

And the one that is unexpected....I'm going to go with team streak again in 87 and a picture of maybe Svuem with the Easter Sunday HR, OR Juan Nieves after the No-no.

I know for sure Rob Deer was one of them.

Alright, that's the one of him running the bases. I thought that was Svuem from the Easter Sunday day, but I think you're right.

Braun was on the cover with Tulo, Upton, and somebody else, IIRC.

Edit: Nevermind, I guess that was a special preview edition and likely doesnt count for the trivia deal.

I knew I was 100% correct on this one (because I have it), so I'll post this.......

I believe Yount was on the cover during the 82 series.

Before and during...

Since 2013, Gomez is 3rd in fWAR (9.4), trailing only Mike Trout and Andrew McCutchen. He was also fairly productive in 2012 offensively, which I'd forgotten.

What's amazing to me with Gomez is how horrendous he was at the plate for such a long time. From 2007-2011, he posted a line of .243/.291/.357/.648 (OPS+ 73) in ~1,700 PA's. His line from 2012-2014 is .276/.330/.496/.827 (OPS+ 121) in ~1,200 PA's.

Just gotta stay healthy...

It's a regional cover. Kevin Durant is on the cover in the majority of markets.

crud. Guess I'll be getting Durant. :(

Ok, evidently my research was entirely incorrect (and/or excluded regional covers).

The two Brewers covers according to the SI database were:

2011 (Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, and Nyjer Morgan)

1982 (the World Series issue, with Robin Yount in focus and the silhouette of Ben Oglivie in the background)

That's Coop in the on-deck circle.

Different cover. The one SI lists as a national cover involving the Brewers is the one with Yount turning a double play with Lonnie Smith sliding into second. From the angle the figure in the background has to be Oglivie (in LF).
