Look for these just prior to the respective game times --

Nashville Media Notes - it's a unique link each day, but look for it under the "Roster" banner on the Sounds' site.

Brevard County Media Notes - again, it's a unique link each day, but look for it under the "Multimedia" banner on the Manatees' site.

Huntsville Media Notes:

ON DECK: The Stars will travel tomorrow to Chattanooga, TN to begin a five-game series with the Chattanooga Lookouts. The Lookouts are the Double-A Affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Stars manager Carlos Subero will make his return to Chattanooga where he managed the Lookouts from 2010-2012. Subero took the Lookouts to the Southern League playoffs in the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Tomorrow, the Lookouts will be hosting their inaugural Negro League Baseball Night presented by Erlanger. This special event will pay homage to the rich baseball history of Chattanooga and feature former Negro Leaguers Carl Long and Clifford Layton. To honor the impact Negro League Baseball has had on the Scenic City, the Chattanooga Lookouts and their opponent, the Huntsville Stars, will don commemorative uniforms of the Homestead Grays (Lookouts) and the Newark Eagles (Stars).

FROM LAST NIGHT: The Stars are now 8-6 at home, and they are still actually being outscored at home by their opponents 57-55…Last night, lefty Brent Suter earned his fifth victory of the season. Suter tied teammate Tyler Cravy for the most victories in the Southern League with five. Suter allowed his first HR in 42 IP… the Stars had 12 hits which matched a season high for most hits in a home game. They also had 12 on April 19th in a 10-7 loss to Mobile…The Stars scored a run in multiple innings, ending a string of six consecutive home games where they had done all their scoring in one inning. Last night they posted runs in the 3rd, 7th and 8th….

Stars OF Mitch Haniger, the 5th ranked prospect in the Brewers organization, led the Stars offense last night. He had his second three hit game of the season (other was 4/19 vs Mobile). After a slow month of April, where he batted just .193 his bat is starting to heat up. He has recorded a hit in 8 of his last 9 games. In his last 9, he is 13 for his last 35 with 3 RBI (.371 average). In the month of May alone in 7 games, he’s batting .407 with 2 RBI. Haniger is also one of the select few performing well at home, hitting .308…The Stars enter tonight having the third highest fielding percentage in all of minor league baseball at .984. Arkansas, Double-A, Texas League has the highest fielding percentage at .987, then New Orleans, Triple-A, PCL, at .986, then the Stars are tied with Syracuse, Triple-A International League.

So I was messing around looking at the last 14 days of hitting stats around the organization, the T-Rats list was slightly surprising:

Back to sorting by strike % for AA, once again there is quite a bit to like here as well. Just an FYI that I'm using the % because it doesn't remove any pitchers from the list. Dillard, Leach, Lowe in AA at various stages this season... *sigh*. Drew Gagnon's ultimate results have been good, but the peripherals aren't backing him up at all.

Final: Daytona 2, Brevard County 5

Lopez solid as 'Tees top Cubs, 5-2

VIERA, Fla. - Thanks in large part to a stellar, seven-inning performance from Jorge Lopez, the Brevard County Manatees won their third straight game against the Daytona Cubs, with a 5-2 victory on Friday night at Space Coast Stadium.

Brevard County's starter turned in his longest and most effective performance of the season. Lopez did not allow a hit until the third inning and did not surrender another one until the sixth. Both times, Lopez (4-2, 4.11 ERA) induced double plays to erase the base runners.

Lopez's only two runs allowed were unearned after errors in the third and fifth. Daytona scored the game's first run after Lopez threw a would-be double play ball into center field. Brevard County (19-15) turned a double play right after the error, but Rock Shoulders scored on the play to put Daytona (10-22) on top, 1-0.

The Manatees' offense avenged Lopez with five runs in the bottom half of the third. After Brandon Macias reached on an error, Nathan Orf ripped a triple to right-center field to tie the game. Orlando Arcia came up next and singled home Orf with the go-ahead run.

Arcia made a big baserunning play to keep the rally alive in the third. Tyrone Taylor hit a ground ball to second base, but the Cubs could not turn a double play because Arcia slid in hard at second. Taylor was safe at first and scored two batters later when Cameron Garfield smacked a two-bagger down the left field line.

Victor Roache and Garrett Cooper also contributed to the Manatees' rally. Roache expanded the lead with a run-scoring single and later scored himself, when Cooper delivered a double to give the 'Tees a 5-1 lead.

Lopez took the run support and ran with it. He only gave up one more run when the 'Tees committed three errors in the fifth. Jeimer Candelario reached second base to lead off the inning when Cooper had trouble fielding a ground ball and threw away his throw to Lopez, who was covering the bag.

Candelario scored later in the inning when Cooper fielded a two-out grounder off the bat of Marco Hernandez, but Lopez dropped the first baseman's flip.

The Manatees overcame their defensive miscues and closed out the win. Lopez finished with five strikeouts and three walks, as he won his third straight start.

Mike Strong earned his second save with two scoreless innings in relief. Strong walked two, allowed a pair of hits and struck out three.

Brevard County will go for the four-game series sweep of the Cubs on Saturday night in Daytona Beach with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. The Manatees will hand the ball to southpaw Hobbs Johnson (2-4, 3.13), while the Cubs will send righty Jose Rosario (2-2, 3.81) to the hill.

Brevard County Box Score

This was a nice start for Jorge Lopez, probably his best of the season. Seven innings and only two unearned runs on two hits. Mike Strong has been lights out so far this season and has to be in line for a promotion when a spot opens up in Huntsville. Only one run allowed all season. Makes it all the more puzzling when they sign a guy like Tim Dillard. Cameron Garfield is hitting .421 over his last ten games and has the average all the way up to .288. He went 2-for-4 with a double tonight. Garrett Cooper doubled and walked twice while Nathan Orf tripled and was hit by a pitch.

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Clint Coulter and Chris McFarland stayed hot for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, but it wasn't enough on Friday night against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The Kernels banged out eighteen hits in a 10-5 victory over the Rattlers at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

Cedar Rapids (19-15) had four hits off Wisconsin starter Zach Quintana in the first inning, but managed just one run. Bryan Haar's infield single with the bases loaded scored the Kernels run.

Wisconsin (15-19) answered immediately in the bottom of the first inning. Johnny Davis dragged a bunt single to start the frame. An errant pickoff throw let Davis move to second. McFarland sent a single to left and Davis scored on the play to tie the game. McFarland's single extended his current hitting streak to seven games.

The Kernels took advantage of a pair of Wisconsin errors in the top of the third inning to score three runs. Engelb Vielma reached on an infield single and a throwing error moved him to second base at the start of the inning. Mitch Garver drew a one out walk after Vielma had moved on to third base. Vielma would score on a sacrifice fly by Zack Larson. Bryan Haar's single to left was misplayed and allowed Garver to come around to score another run. Haar wound up on third base and he scored on Jason Kanzler's single to give the Kernels a 4-1 lead.

The Rattlers got a run back in the bottom of the third. McFarland doubled with one out. Coulter's sharp single to left sent McFarland to third. David Denson chopped a single through the right side of the infield to get McFarland home and the Rattlers were down 4-2.

Tristan Archer came on to pitch for Wisconsin at the beginning of the top of the fourth. The Kernels had runners at first and second with two outs. Then, Garver doubled to left to drive in both runners and the Kernels were up 6-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, Coulter blasted his eighth home run of the season. His leadoff, line drive homer was just to the right of the batter's eye in center and landed in the Wisconsin bullpen. Coulter has a home run in his last three games and he leads the Midwest League in homers.

But, Cedar Rapids got that run back in the top of the sixth. Garver doubled to left to drive in Vielma who had singled to start the inning.

Wisconsin used the home run to pull back within two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Omar Garcia singled with one out and stole second base. Angel Ortega crushed the next pitch to left for his second homer of the season. The Rattlers, who lead the league in homers as a team with 30, were down 7-5.

The Kernels tacked on three runs in the top of the eighth inning to reach double digits in runs. Vielma tripled to left, his fourth hit of the night, to start the inning. Chad Christensen singled over the drawn-in infield and Vielma scored his fourth run of the game. Harvey Martin took over for Tristan Archer after the single by Christensen and allowed a single and issued a walk to force in a run. Kanzler drove in his second run of the game with another single and the Kernels were up 10-5.

Slegers struck out seven over 5-2/3 innings while walking one to earn his fourth win of the season. Reliever Todd Van Steensel recorded six strikeouts in 2-1/3 innings. Christian Powell, the third Cedar Rapids pitcher of the night, issued three walks in the ninth, but ended the game with a strikeout, the fourteenth of the night for the Kernels.

The final game of the series Saturday afternoon. Victor Diaz (0-1, 5.14) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Cedar Rapids will send Ryan Eades (3-3, 2.87) to the mound. Game time is 1:05pm.

The Timber Rattlers host their sixth annual Bark in the Park event on Saturday afternoon. The left field berm will be set aside for pets and pet owners to enjoy the game. Tickets are $6 for humans and free for dogs. The first 150 pets to attend the game will receive a bag of gourmet pet food from Fromm Foods. There will also be a pet food drive to benefit the Pet Pantry of Wisconsin. Click this link for more details.

If you can't make it out to the game, tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or IHeartRadio starting with the pregame show at 12:45pm. Saturday's game is also available to subscribers of MiLB.TV.

Wisconsin Boxscore

So I've been thinking about something positive to say about Zach Quintana since he exited the game, but I just have nothing. Yes shoddy defense cost him in the 3rd, but if not for 2 great defensive plays on rockets to Michael Ratterree and Omar Garcia the damage would have been much worse, the errors allowed extra bases on what were already hits, everything was hit hard in the inning. He was all over the place and he doesn't have any kind of strike out pitch, at least that he displayed this evening. I think his ERA is an accurate reflection of where he's currently at as a pitcher.

Tristan Archer showed a little bit, he didn't locate well either, but at least he can induce some swings and misses. I've been surprised by Harvey Martin's early struggles, I was expecting more. I thought this pitching staff might be a strength coming into the season but thus far they have allowed the 5th most runs in the league.

Johnny Davis had a tough night. He bunted in his first 3 ABs; the first for a hit, the second should have been a hit but he was called out, the 3rd he popped up, in the next AB he struck out on a bad pitch, but he walked in the 9th. Unfortunately he also misplayed or bobbled every ground ball hit to him in LF during the game but was only charged with 1 error, and he turned a single into a triple to start the 8th by trying to make a diving catch and coming up completely empty.

Omar Garcia (2-4, 2 SB), Chris McFarland (2-5,SB), and Clint Coulter (2-3,HR,2BB) had the multi-hit games. Coulter's HR came on a very easy swing to the deepest part of the ballpark in right center, it was wind aided, but still impressive.

For a little dude Angel Ortega has some decent pull power, his HR was a no doubter to LF.
