Yost's last stand?

Let's say the Brewers do continue to skid around. They don't go on a big losing streak, but they continue to lose series, go into the AS break at .500 in second place behind a "hot" (by NL Central standards) Cubs/Cards squad and generally look like they are slowly bleeding to death.

What good would it do to fire Yost in midseason? As pointed out above, I think he's liked and respected by the players. This is a young team and I don't know that axing Yost is going to help if managment believes, despite the downturn, that the division is still there for the taking in the second half.

In a worst case scenario, if Youst is going to be fired suring the season, I'd wait to fire him after it becomes eminently clear that the Brewers won't make the postseason and the the season is, in effect, a failure. At that point, say in mid-September, I'd fire Yost to make a point to the young kids that failure is unacceptable. But in doing so I'd also have a successor pretty much lined up and a plan for going forward from there in place.

My worry-o-meter is at an all time high right now. This team has just plain sucked since they played the Mets. Florida was a nice respite. I just am not very optimistic right now. I know, I know, it's a long season but this season is starting to slip quickly. Yost will be canned at the end of this year if they blow this. Dumping him during the season I don't see happening. I also disagree that his handling of relievers has climbed to OK. He still stinks in said department. It is his biggest and greatest fault.

Here's a question for the stat people. Has a manager ever been fired with his team leading the division?

Seriously though, what is Ned doing with his lineups? He needs to figure out who is batting where and just leave it alone. 13 different lineups in 13 straight games has got to be very upsetting for the players.

Seems like Steinbrenner would have done that at some point, but I don't know.

I don't see Yost getting fired unless the current trend keeps up through the rest of the season. If the team continues to play poorly and there are few injuries, he may get canned. Having said that, I don't think he's done a poor job at any point this season. For all the griping about his moves, I just don't see where doing things differently makes a huge difference in wins and losses over the course of a season. Also, IMO, Yost does get points for being consistent. Some people may not like what he does with the team, but at least he is not all over the place (Royster comes to mind) with the moves he makes. He goes through a game with a plan in mind and sticks to it. Whether or not it's a good plan is up for debate.

Man o man. Yost Should be fired for that bogus line- up he put out there tonight! Y on earth is does he have Counsanino batting 1 2 in the the line up is beyound me. Then why does he insist on putting Gross in as Dh, yea i know verlander is a tought righty but what has Gross done. Hell put Gwynn in at Dh. This team is in trouble, thats all i gotta say. SOrry if this should of gone in the Vent thread!!!!!http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif

I do think Yost is on thin ice. These lineups are borderline insane. I don't think he'll be fired until the end of the season though, and either Robin Yount or Cecil Cooper will be hired to replace him

Yost ain't going anywhere.

Players win games, managers lose them, at least in the eyes of most fans. Its Yost's fault we got no-hit tonight, but he had nothing to do with our 22 hit thrust the other day. In fact, he had little to do with both.

When Melvin doesn't like how Yost is using his players, I believe that he tells him. It's what we saw when Yost's boy, Helms sat in favor of Melvin.

I don't think a change in management would be made until the off season.

If the Brewers finish 3rd or worse, he's gone.

If the Brewers go into a tailspin that resembles the 2nd half of '04 or even '06, he's gone.

Mark A is many things but he ain't stupid

Duno how you can say Yost did not have nething to do with the No hit. Plain and simple there could of been a better lineup out there. Ya he does not do the hitting but come on you gotta agree on that.

We had our best available team on the field. Any way you arrange them we still have no hits.

No we didn't. I don't know whether or not Yost should be fired, but I had calls from my dad and a friend complaining about the lineup BEFORE the first pitch was thrown. I concurred. We got no-hit. We had Graffy hit second, so he got more ABs than most and struck out every time. Counsell batted leadoff giving him more ABs than Hart. Braun sat on the bench. I'm not a fan of a DH hitting 9th. When your 1-2 can't make the pitcher pitch from the stretch-well, it gets harder. The line-up sucked. Period.

The only thing that would have made the lineup better was putting Braun in or if Weeks was available. Braun needed a day off. Every player needs a day off. Bottom line is the players did not do a thing tonight and Yost wrongly gets the blame.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Braun had a sore wrist. Should we fire Yost and hire a manager with special healing powers?

This is so ironic. I have been accused of being a Yost backer to a fault by people on this site. Our two worst hitters (IMO) batted 1-2. Period.

Braun sitting while he has a 7 game hitting streak going is ridiculous. I'd love to know what Yost was thinking there. Maybe he'll break out the "well, Graffy was 1-3 in his career against him, so I liked the match-up".
