Look for these just prior to the respective game times --

Nashville Media Notes - it's a unique link each day, but look for it under the "Roster" banner on the Sounds' site.

Brevard County Media Notes - again, it's a unique link each day, but look for it under the "Multimedia" banner on the Manatees' site.

Here's more, with pictures, from Chris on the Appleton snowout.

***

Matt Erickson has used each of his Timber Rattler pitchers, both starters and relievers, exactly twice each after ten games.

***

Very cool for RHP Jacob Barnes -- when he puts on a AA uniform for the first time tonight, he'll be doing so on his 24th birthday.

***

LHP Brent Leach's transfer to Nashville leaves the Stars without a lefty reliever. Starter Brent Suter is the only southpaw on the staff.

Clint Coulter is not only Baseball America's Prospect of the Day for Sunday --

"HITTER OF THE DAY: Clint Coulter, C — Low Class A Wisconsin (Brewers)

Coulter mashed two home runs on Sunday, bringing his season total to four. He also walked twice and stole a base. The No. 11 prospect in the Brewers system is hitting .286/.459/.821 through the early portion of the season."

but he was also named the Midwest League's Player of the Week. Kudos!

My tweet from earlier today --

In his 1st nine games of 2014 - 8 H, 7 of them for XB's (3 2B's, 4 HR's); OPS 1.281; more walks (7) than K's (six).

Reed, Manatees turn rare triple play

No. 15 Brewers prospect makes leaping grab to start historic play

By Ashley Marshall / MiLB.com

Michael Reed hit .286 with 23 doubles, 13 triples and 26 steals in 118 games last year. (Ann Mollica/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers)

Brewers prospect Michael Reed may not have the size and strength of a defensive end, but he certainly has the speed of a running back and the agility of a wide receiver.

And even though the right fielder didn't follow in his father Benton's footsteps to play professional football, the genes he inherited sure are coming in handy on the baseball diamond.

Reed made a highlight-reel catch at full sprint -- he called it a "running, leaping, over-the-head catch" -- before assisting on a triple play in the Class A Advanced Brevard County Manatees' 8-5 win over the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Monday.

"It was a pretty cool experience," Reed said. "I have never been part of a triple play before so it was pretty neat to be a part of it.

"My dad being an NFL player, he was very quick and he ran a very fast pro shuttle. I've always been quick off the start and I get to full speed quickly. When you make that first step on your read, you're trying to get up to full speed as fast as possible to take that good angle toward the ball. My genes probably had a lot to do with that play."

Lakeland first baseman James Robbins led off the fifth inning with a double to center field and catcher Austin Green followed with a walk.

Left fielder Jeff Holm then hit a deep fly ball to the right-center field gap. Reed, the No. 15 Brewers prospect, chased it down and almost overran the ball as it began tailing back toward the first-base line. He reached back to make the grab and then planted his right hand on the warning track to brace himself before coming to a sliding stop.

The 21-year-old then fired the ball to shortstop Orlando Arcia, ranked fourth on the Brewers, who stepped on second base to double off Robbins for the second out and then slapped the tag on Green -- who had already rounded second -- to complete the triple play.

"Right after I threw the ball in, I looked at my hand," said Reed, whose father was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1986 and started with the New England Patriots the following year. "I tore it up pretty badly on the track and it was bleeding. I didn't really know what happened after that, I just heard the crowd screaming so I knew something good happened.

"I knew I had a shot at a double play, but then [center fielder] Tyrone Taylor came running over and said, 'You just got a triple play, man.'"

It was the first triple play in the Florida State League this year and the first since Bradenton accomplished the feat in the ninth inning of a 5-3 win over Charlotte last Aug. 11.

It also gave Reed, selected by the Brewers in the fifth round of the 2011 Draft, his third outfield assist in 10 games. He made nine outfield assists -- including one double play -- in 107 Midwest League games in 2013.

"Defense is definitely one of the key parts of my game," the 190-pound right-hander said. "I'm always working on my defense and I have to keep that part of my game for the rest of my career. I hope it will help me get to the big leagues."

Manatees starter Tyler Wagner (3-0) allowed three runs -- two earned -- on eight hits and two walks while striking out three batters over 6 2/3 innings. Left fielder Victor Roache hit his second homer of the year and first baseman Garrett Cooper reached base three times, plated two runs and scored twice.

Lakeland's Edgar De La Rosa (0-3) surrendered four runs -- three earned -- over three frames. He yielded three hits and four walks.

'Tees turn triple play in 8-5 win over Lakeland

Roache homers, Wagner earns third victory

By Andrew Luftglass / Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. - It may only be April, but right fielder Michael Reed turned in the play of the year for Brevard County Manatees. Reed made a sliding catch that resulted in a triple play, as the 'Tees defeated the Lakeland Flying Tigers, 8-5 at Space Coast Stadium on Monday night.

The Manatees' defensive anomaly came in the top of the fifth inning. Lakeland had runners on first and second with nobody out after James Robbins doubled and Austin Green walked.

Jeff Holm came up next and hit a fly ball to deep right-center field. Both runners took off, thinking that the ball would fall for extra bases. Reed, however, sprinted over and made a sliding catch on the track. Both runners retreated, but Reed's throw was already in shortstop Orlando Arcia's glove. Arcia stepped on second base to retire Robbins and tagged Green to complete the triple play. It was the first triple play turned by Brevard County since 2003.

Brevard's triple play upstaged what was already a strong offensive performance for the Manatees. The 'Tees took a 1-0 lead in the first with some good fortune, as a throwing error allowed Tyrone Taylor to score.

After Holm homered for Lakeland to tie the game in the top of the third, Victor Roache answered with a solo shot of his own. A bases-loaded walk later in the inning gave Brevard County a 3-1 lead.

The Manatees slowly added to their lead in the sixth, seventh and eighth. Cameron Garfield drove in Arcia with an RBI double in the sixth and then Brandon Macias's seventh-inning, two-out single scored Garrett Cooper in the seventh. Brevard scored another pair in the eighth on a two-run single by Cooper.

Brevard County starting pitcher Tyler Wagner had a quality start as he earned the win. He had his longest outing of the year and fell one out shy of making it through seven innings. Wagner only allowed three runs - two earned - on eight hits, struck out three and walked two in the winning effort.

A pair of right-handed relievers finished the job for Wagner. Chad Pierce finished the seventh inning and pitched into the ninth before running into trouble. Lakeland trailed 8-3 entering the ninth inning, but scored a pair and brought the tying run to the plate with two outs.

Tommy Toledo ended the threat quickly when he came in from the bullpen. He struck out Tyler Hanover to end the game and nail down his third save of 2014.

The 'Tees and Flying Tigers play the middle game of their series on Tuesday night at Historic Dodgertown in Vero Beach. The contest will mark the inaugural Jackie Robinson Celebration Game at Holman Stadium, the Dodgers' spring training home from 1948-2008.

Right-hander Damien Magnifico is expected to pitch for Brevard County against his former University of Oklahoma teammate, southpaw Jordan John. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Brevard County Box Score

Tyler Wagner allowed eight hits in 6 2/3 innings, but still turned in a solid outing, giving up just two earned runs. Victor Roache hit his second home run of the season as part of a 2-for-5 night. Brandon Macias went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in. Garrett Cooper and Michael Reed each went 1-for-3 and drew a pair of walks. Reed added an outfield assist on the previously mentioned triple play, and stole two more bases. He's 9-for-9 now in stolen base attempts. Nathan Orf is only batting just .154 but reached base three more times, walking twice and adding his daily hit-by-pitch. Orlando Arcia, back at shortstop tonight, had three errors, with two coming on one play in the ninth inning.

Adam McCalvy's notes article includes this quote on Clint Coulter:

"He has a lot of the tools you need to be successful there," pro scouting director Zach Minasian said of Coulter, rated the Brewers' No. 12 prospect by MLB.com. "He throws really well. He works really hard. I think it's still a long process for him, but my philosophy on it is if you have a guy with physical ability who wants to catch, you might as well let him. At that position particularly, if you don't have someone who enjoys doing it, you're not going to get out of him what you need to get out of him. I think he still wants to do it."
