2014 Brewers Optimism Thread

torts
I'm guessing it has something to do with the fact that the A's have outscored opponents by over 100 runs and we're only in June. That's what I came up with for a guess when I was trying figure the same thing out earlier this evening.

Yep. Its based upon predicted records given run differential going forward by simulating the rest of the season. The other thing is that the 3rd and 4th place NL Central teams are decent as are the Cubs by run differential. So the Brewers have a slightly lower chance of winning the division while the NL West is a two team race. The fangraphs page:

Incredible season so far. The Cards are on our trail and it never feels like our lead is safe but maybe that's a good thing. Keep pushing, never satisfied. Would love for a winning home stand now. 5-2 would make me very happy! But I'll take 4-3 too lol.

I want whatever kind of homestand is required to maintain this lead on the Cardinals.

No, no, no. We are not at this point now. We are at the point of the season we need to put the foot on the pedal even more. The bigger lead we can create, the better chance we have at holding on in the end if they make a push. The idiots who say oh well, it's still early in the season are looney toons. A win now counts the same as a win in September!

Whoa. I was more so talking in terms of the national media not buying into the Brewers because it's still "early." Wouldn't be negative in the optimism thread lol.

Big week here at home. Nationals coming in (and naturally we get Strasburg) and then Colorado again. We just swept them, but honestly it felt like we could have lost any of those games. I'll be happy with 4-3. Just don't want to give back all of our recent road success by falling flat on our faces at home.

You mean the national media knows we are in first place in the division ahead of the Cards and the second best record in the bigs? ;)

I wonder if the Rockies' offense will be as prolific at Miller Park compared to Coors Field?

I always feel like Cubs games and Coors games could go either way pretty much regardless of the score, so I wouldn't judge the performance on that basis. Bad teams don't take advantage when the other team provides gifts. Good teams win the gimmes.

in my mind RRR gave a Coach Taylor'eque level speech at the beginning of the season... I feel like it went something like this:

Coach Taylor: A few of you have been here. A few of you have not. One thing we all have to do tonight, we’ve got to focus. The game plan, the fundamentals, gentlemen, advancing on the bases' what we’re going to be doing out there. And listen, fellas, there’s a joy to this game, is there not? There’s a passion, there’s a reason why we’re all out here. Other than the fact the pride that it gives us and the respect that it demands we love to play the game so let’s go out there and have fun tonight. Do you understand? Because tomorrow, if you give 100% of yourself tonight people are going to look at you differently. People are going to think of you differently. And I promise you you’re going look and think differently about yourself. Clear eyes. Full Hearts.

Torts: Can’t Lose.

Maybe I missed it, but I don't read here that the Brewers now have the best record in the NL again mentioned. 'Frisco had a 6 game losing streak and is 3-7 in the last 10.

MLBTV grudgingly had a short segment today about it.

They talked about it on mlb network. They didn't say they were the best team, however, which is false.

Bump...was just in the in-game thread and was basically told to leave if I was going to attempt to be optimistic. The Brewers are in first on July 11th!! Not many times in Brewer history that you can say that. Get off the ledge people!

User in-game thread post in 1st inning of 3rd game of the 2022 season: "This team stinks"

Really hard to be positive at 1-10. How many World Series winners had a 1-10 stretch?

But thanks for being the positive voice out there. We all need it.

Oh please.. no one said "leave if you were going to be optimistic".. I believe the message was "this is an in-game thread, tensions are going to be high".. You weren't being positive, you were picking on those who were upset about a disaster of a game and disaster of 10-game stretch.

This week has sucked hard, but there are better times ahead.

Does anyone really believe we'll play better after the ASB than we did before the ASB? We'll play sub .500 ish, we'll fade into oblivion, the Packers season will start.

I'm optimistic about the Packers season!
