Well, that didn't take long --

@BrewersPD:

The Brewers have released Raphachel Colatosti, Juan De Los Santos and Franmy Pena from the DSL team. We wish them well.

***

Raphachel Colatosti, a 21-year-old Venezuelan 4th-year DSL'er, split his time among all the infield positions, with a dabble of outfield play mixed in, particularly this season. In 703 plate appearances over four seasons (597 AB's), he posted a .236/.336/.266 line, only 14 of 141 hits going for extra bases despite being listed at 6'1" (173).

A 20-year-old four-year pro, also from Venezuela, Juan De Los Santos spent his first two seasons in the Nationals' organization. As you'll see at the link, the Brewers focused on defensive versatility with De Los Santos as well (third base proved to be an issue, as it often does at any rookie level). De Los Santos finishes with an on-base friendly .246/.371/.329 line, so it's a bit surprising he won't see Maryvale at all.

Back on May 31st, we detailed Franmy Pena's signing, please re-read this post about the player with stateside experience. In his 2014 small sample of 36 official AB's, Pena had six hits, two of them triples, he walked eight times, fanned on eleven occasions.

SIDENOTE: Colatosti and Pena are the only "Raphachel" and "Franmy" ever to play professional baseball.

One more note on the DSL'ers -- you'd hope the kids will benefit long-term from whatever English Language instruction they received over time at the academy. Unlike high school draft picks, we really don't know what, if any, secondary education guarantees are made for these fringe-level signings by major league organizations.

Wang, Wei-Chung has been promoted to Brevard County, will start Wednesday's game. Heard on the Manatees' pregame show.

Wow, that is not a deserved promotion at all...

It's not a promotion, he's on a rehab assignment, the Brewers have to recall him to Milwaukee soon. He'll likely 2 get more minor league starts and then he either has to be sent back to AZ for more "rehab" or recalled to the big club.

From earlier this month --

Via @BrewersPD:

The Brewers have released (RHP) Drew Ghelfi. We wish him well.

***

The LaCrosse native was drafted in the 25th round last year out of the University of Minnesota (pro stats 2013-14).

It was a nice story at draft time last year for Ghelfi, who turns 24 this September (feature story).

Video here as well...

FYI - Ghelfi found work this week with the St. Paul Saints of the independent American Association.

Nathan Orf becomes the 4th Manatee (Tyrone Taylor, Mike Strong, Tyler Wagner) to get a bump to Huntsville to join the Stars for the postseason.

Prior to the promotions, there had been one open AA roster spot. Other spots freed up when RHP Eric Marzec was promoted to Nashville, and when OF Kentrail Davis was placed on the DL.

A move will be necessary to free up a spot for Orf, it appears.

In order to make room for SS Orlando Arcia, 2B/UT Nathan Orf, and RHP Tyler Wagner on the Stars' postseason roster, three players were transferred to the Maryvale roster in a paper move -- INF Shea Vucinich, C/UT Joey Paciorek, and RHP Tommy Toledo.

Shea Vucinich. That guy's awesome. I wish we had an interview with him.

The Brewers announce --

RHP Kevin Shackelford and RHP Barrett Astin have been sent to Cincinnati to complete the 8/31 trade for RHP Jonathan Broxton.

***

Astin turns 23 this October, so despite his 3rd round status, coming off his subpar 2014 Wisconsin season, this trade seems right, especially with all the money the Brewers took off the Reds' hands.
