Minor League Transactions -- 2014 Regular Season

I'm curious as to what the status of Nicky Delmonico is. He's no longer listed on the BC roster and his milb.com player page shows him on the temporary inactive list. He hadn't played in a game for the Manatees since July 7th, and you'd think if it was injury related he'd just go on the DL. Given his late start to the season for personal reasons, hopefully everything turns out alright for the 22-year-old Delmonico.

As seen on the FSL transactions page, Delmonico's placement on the Temp Inactive became official today (Sunday 7/20), with INF Greg Hopkins transferred from the Stars to Brevard.

Adam McCalvy tweet:

#Brewers No. 6 prospect Nicky Delmonico, idle since 7/7, is not injured. Return of undisclosed personal issues that plagued him in spring.

Via the Nashville Media Notes--

MAY ACTIVATED, HERMIDA PLACED ON D.L.: Catcher Lucas May, who has not appeared in a game for the Sounds since May 16th, has been activated from the disabled list. May is batting .172 in 10 games for Nashville this season. He fills the roster spot of outfielder Jeremy Hermida, who was placed on the D.L. retroactive to Tuesday.

***

Lucas May did appear in eight games for Huntsville between June 21st and July 4th.

Hermida (.267 / .376 / .447 - .823 OPS) had only batted as the designated hitter in the three games he's played since the AAA All-Star Break. No official word on the nature or severity of Hermida's injury at this time.

Not a formal transaction, but --

8th round catcher Greg McCall (UT-Arlington) hasn't played with Helena since July 17th, and via this tweet from the Helena Independent Record's Amber Kuehn -

After the Helena Brewers 14-5 win tonight, manager Tony Diggs said catcher Greg McCall's knee pain may be "more significant" than they thought.

Updates from the Voice of the Helena Brewers, Dustin Daniel (the McCall information posted earlier) --

Catcher Greg McCall has torn his meniscus and is headed back to Arizona for treatment. We will not be seeing him again this year in the Pioneer League. His expected recovery schedule is 4-8 weeks and he is currently unsure if he will be ready for Fall Instructionals.

OF Elvis Rubio has also been sent down to Arizona for 15 days. In a three day period he was hit by two pitches and crashed into a chain link fence to rough up his knee. He has been riding the stationary bike daily and it should just be a precautionary move.

Via Dustin in Helena --

Catcher Connor Narron joined the Helena Brewers today. Narron, a former 5th round pick for the Orioles, replaces Greg McCall who is back in Arizona for surgery on his torn meniscus. McCall will spend the rest of the summer in rehab at the Maryvale facility.

Narron was released by the O’s in March after reaching as high as the Frederick Keys (A+) and spent the beginning of the year playing for the AZL Brewers. Through 11 games he hit .139 in 43 at-bats.

Posted June 24th:

The Brewers have signed 18-year-old (he'll turn 19 in six days) 1B/3B Geuris Santana.

Santana already has a full Dominican Summer League season under his belt, playing 44 games for the DSL Marlins in 2013. Santana posted a .176/.304//206 line for a very rough .510 OPS. His defense, particularly at third base, was not strong either (career stats via Baseball Reference).

Santana, a Dominican native, is a LH bat, and has a 6'3" frame, so at least there's that.

Santana made his Brewers DSL debut Tuesday, walking, getting HBP, and striking out within five plate appearances as the DH, scoring one run.

Welcome, Geuris! (No big league Geuris' exist, but Santana is one of three all-time minor league Geuris', each from recent years.)

And like that, Santana was released today, after only eight DSL games with the Crew.

Must be something else at play, why scout an 18-year-old (with knowledge of the Marlins' 2013 season), sign him, but drop so quickly?

Take care, Gueris...

The Brewers also announced today --

They released 2012 9th round RHP Alex Lavandero, who in 2.5 seasons out of his Miami high school, never escaped Maryvale.

There was progress made last season, but not so this summer.

Signed for $125,000, Lavandero surely also received a promise for money for college. Perhaps he'll pursue indy ball first.

At Nashville --

OF Jeremy Hermida has been activated from the DL after just over a week away.

In a paper move, RHP Johnnie Lowe has been assigned to the Helena roster. With multiple doubleheaders juggling roster needs, it would seem this would allow the Brewers to bring back Lowe if needed earlier than if a 7-day phantom DL stint.
