Big League Box Scores - Non Big-League Camp Players

Brewer Fanatic Staff

As in past recent years, we'll track which players from minor league camp are brought up for big league camp games and whether they saw action.

Saturday's split squad required several players to be available, but rain at Salt River cut opportunities for many in a five-inning affair.

For those with MLB.TV subscriptions, you can go to the archive on the Maryvale televised game and thanks to the wonderful advancements in MLBAM, easily pull up specific half-innings or even at-bats based on what you see in the box score.

Players in bold saw action --

6'6", 230 lb. 23-year-old 2013 6th round 1B Garrett Cooper definitely the baby of this bunch. Nice little reward for him.

BOLD saw action:

Cubs Box Score

Orr had two hits, but two big errors at third, Hermida and Ramirez had base hits as well, Shaw was 0-for-2, popped up in a big spot in the 9th.

Indians Box Score

Statia an RBI groundout, and not many players get their first big league spring training at-bat captured on MLB highlights, but Garrett Cooper did (base hit).

***

He's on the 40-man roster, but still this thread on the non-camp minor leaguers merits seeing both of Jason Rogers diving stops at first base:

Wow 1

Wow 2 (with bases loaded)

Friday's box score --

MINOR DETAILS: Joining the team today from minor-league camp: OF Kentrail Davis (#73) and INF Brandon Macias (#92).

***

Macias, taking over at third base for Aramis Ramirez, was 1-for-2 including a go-ahead RBI single, good for him. Nice diving stop and play in the 9th, too.

Not listed in the media notes but 0-for-1 with a key sacrifice bunt was Pioneer League MVP Michael Ratterree.

Wednesday Box Score --

MINOR DETAILS: Joining the team from minor-league camp: INF Irving Falu (#65), OF Mitch Haniger (#75), INF Pete Orr (#28), 1B Nick Ramirez (#96), OF Michael Reed (#97), OF Tyrone Taylor (#95), RHP Jose De La Torre (#50) and RHP Dustin Molleken (#70).

Just about everybody in on, and they did well (at the plate), even if the big boys were smoked 10-3. As Noah at BrewCrewBall noted:

Mitch Haniger had the best day offensively for the Brewers, going 2-2 with a solo home run and two RBI. Nick Ramirez and Tyrone Taylor also picked up hits to give Brewers' prospects half the teams' hits on the day.

Wrapping up this thread --

Friday's Box Score

MINOR DETAILS: Joining the team this afternoon from minor-league camp: INF Irving Falu (#65), OF Kevin Mattison (#76), 1B Hunter Morris (#25), OF Michael Ratterree (#75), OF Michael Reed (#95), INF Nick Shaw (#90), C Adam Weisenburger (#28), RHP Kyle Heckathorn (#98), LHP Brent Leach (#46), RHP Arcenio Leon (#99), RHP Eric Marzec (#97) and RHP Casey Medlen (#96).

Text from Miller Park Prospects:

The Brewers dropped their final Spring Training game in Arizona this afternoon, losing to the Cincinnati Reds 8-2. Many minor league players saw action for Milwaukee on “getaway day”, including first baseman Hunter Morris who went 1-for-2 with a home run. Irving Falu got the start at third base and went 1-for-3. Other minor league players to see action included Michael Reed, Kevin Mattison, Michael Ratterree, Nick Shaw, Casey Medlen, Adam Weisenburger, Brent Leach, Elian Hererra and Kyle Heckathorn.

Too bad Medlen's 2014 stint didn't go well. He actually pitched in a big league camp game in 2012 (scoreless inning). The 24-year-old was a 37th round pick in 2011 out of North Florida (career stats).
