RIP Harold Ramis

Shocking and tragic.

An American comedic icon dead at 69 years old. He wrote and or directed Animal House, Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, Analyze This......one of the greats.

edit: forgot about Vacation.

A very sad day. Mr. Ramis is easily my favorite comedy writer/director. I was 4 when Ghostbusters was released and apparently it was all I talked about for months. I'd ask family and random people "What's your favorite part of Ghostbusters?" My favorite part was the Stay Puft Marshmellow Man.

He just seemed like a genuinely nice and approachable person with an incredible sense of humor. The majority of his movies were made when I was in my teens and twenties and they are some of my favorite movies. I had no idea that he had been sick. Very sad.

Man, I keep thinking about him and how much he did. I mean he has so many good movies that he put his hand on. I'm trying to think, the only other person that maybe had influence on more of my favorite movies would be John Hughes. I've never thought of him in that light, but really, he's pretty amazing.

I think the biggest compliment you can give him is that his movies still stand the test of time after 30 - 35 years. They are still friggin' funny.

I still need to watch Animal House, Caddyshack, Stripes, and Ghostbusters every time on. Stripes is one of my all-time favorite movies--right up there with the Blues Brothers, Airplane!, etc

True that! Still some of my favorite movies of all time and totally stand the test of time.

I did not know of his involvement with "Back to School" until reading an article today. Great flick partially filmed at UW. Irregardless of this, the man brought us what I consider the holy trinity of comedy- "Animal House", "Caddyshack" and the first "Vacation"- not to mention everything else. The guy was a legend who had his fingerprints all over a ton of great movies.

Even though they were silly at times, his early work still had an air of intelligence to them. I think guys like Seth Rogen and Adam Sandler could learn a thing or two from that. Judd Apatow tries but usually fails at doing both.

If people haven't seen it, Ramis is awesome in his cameo in Orange County. Here's the clip:

It's not a great film, but the buildup throughout makes this scene even funnier. I'd recommend it overall... Catherine O'Hara is also great in a supporting role. Also has John Lithgow, Lily Tomlin, & Chevy Chase in backup roles.
