2014 Winter Olympics Thread

RobDeer 45

It's almost as if Patrick Kane read what I wrote about him last night and said, "You know what, Mike? I can do worse."

Halfway through the 3rd and it's 4-0 Finland as I write this. How disinterested can one team look while taking stupid, lazy penalty after stupid, lazy penalty?

Nonsense. I agree that the slashing call was garbage but they have no excuse for how they played in the final 5 minutes of regulation. Not one defender anywhere near the scorer of the tying goal when she got the puck. They looked totally panicked after the first goal. It was a total choke job, period.

The slash call was garbage as was the breakaway "cross check" when the Canadian fell on her own. That gave them a very short 5 on 3 when the goal was scored. All that after everyone was saying the refs were going to swallow the whistles and let the players decide the game, to have those two calls go against you is horrific.

If we don't turn the puck over in our own zone, with an awful pass that blew a scoring chance, that breakaway never happens. There was contact and the Canadian went down. They're calling that every time. It easily could have been a penalty shot.

They panicked in the 3rd period and choked it away. Blaming the refs can't hide that. We should be questioning why we allowed the game to get to OT in the first place instead of questioning the officials.

Apparently we now know what happened to our long track skaters this season. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/olympics/dutch-coach-blames-football-for-us-speedskatings-troubles-b99211194z1-246672541.html

Pretty hilarious that the guy whose country hasn't won a single medal in any other sport in the Olympics is telling the country that has won the most they are too focused on one sport.

There needs to be a King Thames version of the bible.

Watch the replay and tell me where the contact is. The only argument you could make is Knight clipped her right foot as she was trying to catch up but if that had happened she wouldn't have been able to bring her foot forward as she did. It was a horrendous call. I'm not arguing that they choked at the end of the 3rd, their defensive positioning was horrendous and I could've handled a loss in OT pretty much any other way because it would've been decided by the players. Not two phantom calls against us.

She knew the US player came across her back, clipped her leg and the Canadian player went down. Both refs are behind the play. Something is going to be called every time when that happens. And again, the breakaway was caused by an error in our end. Make a simple, uncontested 8 foot pass and it never happens.

The slashing penalty was the only one I had issue with. Everything else was our own doing.

So the competition is over. Three of the last six Winter Olympics I've had the opprotunity to pretty much watch unlimited coverage.

The question is, will NBC again break away from the Closing Ceremonies to premiere some lame show, only to resume coverage after we all went to bed?

Yea, both calls were really bad imo. The issue I have is with the choice of refs. I havent looked it up, but I would be curious to see if they just werent prepared/ready with the speed of a US/Canada game. Even the first game had missed calls all over.
