Random thoughts that are pointless and too dumb to say anywhere else thread: 2014

When I left a store today, the greeter told me to have a nice day. Then he followed up by saying exactly the same thing in Spanish. That was both redundant and funny.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

I'm amazed at how many people still use paper checks on a regular basis. I don't know if it's because they are unaware that their bank probably offers free bill pay (also, most vendors offer easy ways to pay bills online) or that they just don't trust the internet? My favorite part of online banking is being able to use my phone to deposit that random paper check I get once in a while. I pretty much never go to the bank any more.

I really only use them because I have them. Once my current batch is gone, I doubt I'll get any more.

I also sell things for people on eBay. It's easier to write out a check then give someone and odd cash amount like $23.47.

Gotta cover all the bases? Or at least the two most likely bases?

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

It's not that I never use checks. There are times when you don't have a choice. In regards to your EBay check writing issue, most banks allow you to pay individuals directly from your checking account. You can usually set it up to automatically deposit in their account (they usually get sent an email that gives them steps to complete) or you can have your bank send them a check from your account and most times there are no extra fees added for this service. I do it all the time to pay fees for my fantasy baseball league or various football pools.

I've used three checks in the last 19 months. In one case, I was required to provide a voided check to set up transfers with an account elsewhere. I have about two checks left, but I don't know where they are, so I'll need to address that.

They need to ban checks from grocery stores. It's aggravating sitting in a checkout, only to see a lady open up her checkbook.

Non-related note, I've begun trying to get my driver's license. Going well. Just a few kinks to work out then I think I'm good for the road test.

My mother in law insists on them. She also insists on going into the bank to make a withdrawal or deposit. The only things mailed are bills she can't hand deliver. I think we'll see a lot less checks as that generation moves on. She doesn't trust the internet, or debit cards.

This doesn't bother me nearly as much, unless the person, stands there, watches the entire checkout process, and THEN decides to fill out the entire check. You can have half the check already filled out before the total is displayed, but so many people fail to do this.

It took my mid-60's father 5 years to start using a debit card, now that I've trained him, he's fine with it. People just use what they're comfortable with and if no one helps them change what they do, they never will.

Who pays for baseballs in an MLB game? The home team? 50/50 between the teams? MLB?

Good question that I honestly don't know the answer to. I assume it would be the responsibility of the home club, but I really am not sure.

MLB Rule 3.01©

Before the game begins the umpire shall:

© Receive from the home club a supply of regulation baseballs, the number and make to be certified to the home club by the league president. The umpire shall inspect the baseballs and ensure they are regulation baseballs and that they are properly rubbed so that the gloss is removed. The umpire shall be the sole judge of the fitness of the balls to be used in the game;

Sounds like the home team.

I need to stop watching all Badger games. I watched 2 regular season BB games last winter. Both were losses. I had time to watch my first CFB game and they look terrible against Northwestern.

Or maybe I should take one for the team and become a Cardinal fan.

Cincinnati Bengals DL, Devon Still, gaining press for his daughter's fight with cancer as well as his fight to make the Bengals roster is apparently a Brewers fan. He was donning a Brewers cap (ball and glove logo) during a a primetime feature story on NBC. Either that, or the ball and glove logo is popular and he knows nothing about the Brewers.

I'm pretty sure there was a gang (I think in Cailifornia) back in the day that used the Brewers ball and glove as their gang logo... Not saying he is gang affiliated, just making a general statement about the logo.

How in the world is FarmersOnly.com able to pay for all their advertising?

Are there that many people willing to pay for a dating site where you only have access to other farmers?

And if you're a single farmer presumably in a rural area, aren't you kind of aware of all the other people in your area by going to bars, the grocery store, church, etc.?

It seems like such a niche audience to devote advertising money to tv.

I feel like if my mom were an owner, the balls would never get tossed into the stands or discarded by the catcher. "That ball's still good, no reason to throw it out!"

I feel as though I noticed a marked increase in the number of balls going into the stands shortly after Attanasio took over. The batboy now gives away basically every foul ball he retrieves, but I remember going to a game in the early 2000's and sitting 2nd row between the dugout and home plate, and the batboy gave away about 4 balls all game.
