I'm shamelessly pimping a book from a friend of mine. "The Official Book of Mob Humor"

by Malcolm Kushner. While he is a friend of mine I wouldn't do so if it didn't combine my love of humor with my fascination of mob stories. If you're looking for something different give it a shot.

What is it about my shopping or browsing history makes Amazon think I would be interested in desert boots?

Do they know that I wore a pair in 1975 when I was in Junior High?

No cowboy stuff or country music.

And the boots were more like Hush Puppies suede boots that were cut to the height of high top basketball shoes, but with two eyelets and crepe or gum rubber soles.

In any case, they missed badly on that one. . .I think. Though I do remember them as being pretty comfortable. . .

I really love bringing up Hank the Dog in front of people that are sick of hearing about Hank the Dog.

March madness into opening day is my favorite time of the year.

It's so amazing this time of year. It's non stop excitement for me with March Madness, Opening Day Baseball, and the Masters. Not to mention that the weather starts to get nice too.

I live with cats but am generally pro-dog as well. Hank's a nice story, but I hope for his sake he can settle down to a reasonably normal dog life soon. The whole phenomenon is on water skis and the shark is looming.

Edited a few minutes later because I found proof of the shark being cleared:

Just wait till the Brewers are playing in the World Series and all FOX will talk about is Hank. There will be video packages, in-game interviews with him, unnecessary cuts to him...

I like the Hank story, and it's a good way for the Brewers organization to get some nice publicity.

Part of me wishes Hank were a bit more nasty, and nippy, and maybe if he had an irritable bowel that would be funnier.

But while we're stuck in the endless winter, with nothing much of interest in spring training, Hank is a nice diversion.

Part of me wonders if the entire thing wasn't just a made up story coming out of the whole 'Soichi stray dogs' thing that was designed by some marketing person to take the spotlight off of the whole 'Ryan Braun' thing.

And then part of me wonders when that part of me got so cynical that it can't just be a happy dog rescue story.

If the Brewers are in the World Series, I doubt I'll let excessive Hank attention get me down. :)

To follow up on TheEndless7's post, a few of us wondered that out loud on Twitter earlier this month, to which Adam McCalvy replied that Hank's story is legit.

i have about three weeks to find an apartment out of state to live for not quite five months. it's gonna be close. college apartments only want two-month renters, and i can't sign a year lease. the last guy said he had five showings the next day, so i told him i'd take it sight-unseen, but he didn't respond. i'm aiming for $400/month, and there are yet a few at $550 that i haven't aimed for yet.

worse comes to worse, i'll live in a tent for a few weeks.

edit: the person who had five apartment showings on Saturday now emailed me and said i could have the apartment. all of a sudden i'm assuming that those five people declined for some reason. i can't be too picky for a five-month lease, but now i wonder what i could be walking into.

ROB DEER JUST FOLLOWED ME ON TWITTER. I imagine he follows everyone who follows him, but still, I am flush with 1987 nerdiness.

Do I tell him I had his growth chart poster on my dorm room wall in 1987-88? (I was proud to have it because it was supposed to be for kids up to age 16 and they gave 21-year-old me one, without my asking.) Do I tell him I still have the growth chart (though not currently displayed)?

Should you do Twitter and want to check him out yourself, he's at @RobDeer45, and he seems to be hawking a baseball camp.

hmm, i wonder what a Rob Deer baseball camp is like. "Kids, the key to hitting is to close your eyes and just swing really hard." but really i'd be geeked to sign up just for the opportunity to sit down with him and ask him a million questions.

Only if you want to remove all doubt as to whether you still have your 1987 nerdiness. ;)

p.s. you should display it proudly. Or did you forget the lessons of Revenge of the Nerds?

If he's trying to get you to buy one shouldn't he be Hawing it?
