Does the Olmsted outright mean a free agent signing is imminent?

It probably means the Brewers just want the flexibility to take advantage of a waiver claim should the opportunity come up, if they see someone they like.

You'll notice with most MLB free agent signings as of late, the signing is announced, then several days, even a week or more passes before a physical, and then, for those teams with a full 40-man, they DFA a player the day the deal is made official.

So, in my opinion, no, nothing is specifically pending.

i agree with Mass Haas, i don't think it means something is happening soon. its no secret that the brewers are still trying to sign a 1st baseman. with a full 40 man roster, removing olmstead means they now can do it if a player is released or if a trade opportunity comes up.
