TV treasures who are still with us (and some now sadly saying goodbye since this thread began)

Rosemary Gernetzke, aka Rosemary Gernette and Rosemary Ross, died back in May at age 81. She and her husband Howard Gernetzke were TV fixtures in Wausau and Milwaukee from the 1950s into the 1990s. "Howard and Rosemary" hosted the noon talk show on Milwaukee's channel 12 for 17 years.

Ross and Gernette were both professional names. She became Rosemary Ross in Wausau when her husband was on one channel while she was doing commercials on all three channels. The name Gernette came about when channel 12 refused to let Howard use the name Gernetzke.

Here's a video where Howard and Rosemary are interviewed by Jim Peck for the Wisconsin Broadcasting Museum:

Jack Riley, Who Played Carlin on ‘The Bob Newhart Show,’ Dies at 80

As you'll read, he also provided the voice for the absent-minded dad Stu Pickles on “Rugrats” and its spinoff, “All Grown Up!”

Riley also rode Cosmo Kramer's memorable bus on the Peterman Reality Tour in the "Muffin Tops" Seinfeld episode.

The link is to the Associated Press notes.

Bob Newhart among those to tweet on Riley's passing.

Milwaukee's own Gene Wilder, gone at the age of 83. Mel Brooks is now the only major cast member from Blazing Saddles still alive.

Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Willie Wonka, Stir Crazy, See No Evil Hear No Evil (very underrated IMO), The Woman In Red - he left quite a legacy.

A man who could make you laugh with just the expressions on his face. RIP Mr. Wilder, you will be missed.

From a week ago --

Steven Hill passed away at 94. He played D.A. Adam Schiff on "Law & Order", and was the original leader of the team (before Peter Graves) on the TV series "Mission: Impossible".

Well, she defined TV treasure (goodbye, Florence Henderson).

Of course, many took Mrs. Brady to task for the past nearly 50 years (47!) for needing Alice the housekeeper.

I guess that was especially so when Alice had to bring in her military look-alike cousin in to fill in while Alice was away for a week. (One week, Mrs. Brady, come on!).

The original TGIF lineup included the Brady Bunch and Partridge Family, great times....

I suspect that people of a later generation don't really get the cultural significance of The Brady Bunch, much in the way I don't get Saved By the Bell, etc.

But the Bradys were the best, and Carol was the best. I think we all wanted our mom's to be more Carol-like.

And after the show was over, Florence didn't do anything in her career or her life to diminish or stain the character of Carol. She remained the wholesome beacon of motherhood.

Lots of celebrity deaths in 2016, but this one is the most significant to me.

Ron Glass, Emmy-Nominated Actor Known for ‘Barney Miller’ and ‘Firefly,’ Dies at 71

The show loses Abe Vigoda and now Ron Glass in the same calendar year.

Too many goodbye's lately, we'll hopefully be back to birthdays of "elder" stars soon...

Mr. Glass was amazing in Firefly, probably my favorite performance from the single-season cult hit.

Mrs. Brady, this one really bothers me.

My daughter was home from college this past weekend, we were watching a few episodes from season 3, and I told her that Mrs. Brady was still living, and that Alice and Mr. Brady were not.

My wife and I recently rediscovered Bewitched, one of her favorite all-time shows, after not watching episodes for 25 years or more.

I was surprised to learn that one of the adult cast members was still with us until this past week, as Bernard Fox (Dr. Bombay) passed away at 89.

Some cool info in this article about his approach to that role and his Titanic connections.

Zsa Zsa Gabor died on Sunday. She'd had so many health crises in recent years that my first thought was surprise that she hadn't passed previously.

In case you're not keeping close track of the Gabor sisters, Zsa Zsa was best known for being married a jillion times and being a guest star everywhere. Her sister Eva was the "GOODBYE CITY LIFE" voice of Green Acres. The third Gabor sister was Magda.

Zsa had nine husbands, Eva had five, and Magda had six. George Sanders was married to both Zsa Zsa and Magda. Their mother Jolie made it a four-ring circus. She was married only three times.
