Logan Morrison rumor

TURBO

According to Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish, the Brewers are one of the teams that would be interested in dealing for Logan Morrison should the Marlins make him available.

The Brewers are staring at a gaping hole at first base for the time being, with Corey Hart currently a free agent, and the best in-house option being Juan Francisco and his free-swinging ways. Morrison and his high on-base approach could fit nicely in the middle of the Brewers lineup.

Anytime we come up in trade rumors, I am scared to death what we are going to have to give up to get the player being discussed. I guess that means I do not trust our front office very much.

I'm afraid it would be for our better minor league pitchers... Nelson and Thornburg are the two guys I just don't want to part with... If they are part of this, I hope it is only a rumor.

I'm guessing Chris Cotillo is flat-out making this up... shocking guess, I know.

Honestly, I'd rather just see Gamel get another crack at 1B than give up anything to get Morrison.

If the price is right, he'd be a much more appealing 1B option than Juan Fran-whiffs-co.

(Sorry, that's a poor attempt at humor, but also an indication of how much I don't want JF anywhere near the Brewers' roster next year.)

He's controlled through 2016?

The answer on who is traded for Morrison is simple. Hunter Morris. Game over for him if Morrison is acquired. So may as well swap unwanted 1b.

And the fear of trading away one of the few top pitching prospects we have for him? Come on Morrison is a career Negative! WAR player! How does that make him worth Pitchers who are going to far exceed his output? Now, moving to Miller Park away from Miami Stadium may help Morrison inch closer to the .800OPS vs being a .700 OPS player he is but that's it.

To Be honest, Looking at Morrison today is like looking at Rickie Weeks numbers the last couple of seasons. So maybe we just trade Weeks plus cash for him.

I'd rather just play Morris from day 1 than acquire Morrison, unless we can get rid of Weeks or trade away a non impact player in the Brewers Future. How about Blazek? Essentially turning Axford to Morrison would be great.

I actually agree with his statement. He does have a high on base approach, his on base is quite a bit higher than his average. Unfortunately he does not appear to be a very good hitter.

Morrison has struggled big time in the Marlin's new home which is not surprising considering its 392 feet to straight away RF and 422 to dead center.

If they don't have to give up much, I'd take him over say Ike Davis. I could see him putting up decent numbers in Miller Park. He might also thrive playing in front of bigger crowds.

The Marlins will tender a contract to Logan Morrison.

But that doesn't necessarily mean that LoMo will be suiting up for the Fish next season. There have been multiple rumors this winter suggesting that Miami is shopping the 26-year-old first baseman, who has been limited to a total of 178 games over the past two summers. The Brewers are thought to have some level of trade interest. Morrison is arbitration-eligible for the first time.

Apparently Melvin feels otherwise as he released Gamel. He plays for Chicago now.

Oh... duh.

A Logan Schafer for Logan Morrison deal has to happen right? I mean it makes sense, Schafer is 27 and blocked in Milwaukee. He is what you should expect for a guy who you were about to non-tender. Given his defense, Schafer has a shot to be a league average player who is cheap and the Marlins can flip him next year.

I would do this deal. Braun, Gomez, Aoki, Davis, Gindl remain and Aoki could still be dealt to fill additional holes. Assuming a follow-up Aoki deal, a heart of the lineup of 3. Braun 4. Ramirez 5. Lucroy 6. Gomez 7. Morrison 8. Davis/Gindl is pretty solid.

Actually, Gamel was non-tendered by the Cubs today. So he's available.

I doubt the marlins would really want Schafer in return for Morrison since they already have a better version of him in Jake marisnick.

Marisnick just had knee surgery and has yet to go through AAA. When you give Juan Pierre 330 PAs, you can use immediate OF help.

And again, Morrison has zero WAR in the last 3 seasons. Schafer has been a positive WAR player when on the field. That's a step back in trade.

I am still in the notion that Gomez needs to be traded. Because at the moment Schafer doesn't have much value. But give him a full season to play CF? Maybe his value turns to that of Denard Span's and we get back a promising pitcher down the road. Not a reclamation 1b/OF who comes with some personal issues.

But no, Melvin and Co. are just to stuck in the today that they can't figure out how to trade players at high value and recycle talent.

Curtis Granderson is now in the Mets radar. I mean take advantage of the Mets desparation for an OF and pick up the phone and ask for Syndergaard plus for Gomez. I mean 8mil for 3years vs. the 15mil per+ At likely 3-4years anyway. I'm sure the Mets GM would listen.

Meanwhile Schafer has at least 2 full seasons to create his own value. We have Aoki if Schafer struggles. But this strategy sends Gomez away at highest value and gives a player a chance to increase his value. You would also be acquiring a huge impact SP in the future that already would bring back a decent return in trade.
