Chris Carpenter to retire

8. Chris Carpenter’s agent, Bob LaMonte, said the righthander will retire and “may have an opportunity to work for the Cardinals organization. Chris basically came back from five career-ending surgeries. I don’t think you’ll ever see anyone do that again. He had a sixth one and it was too many. He had a great career, a great human being.”

Carpenter had a very nice career. He's also a reason to not get down on young pitchers. He and Halladay were absolutely awful (Manny Parra-like) at times in their early Toronto days. Yet both wound up being VERY good pitchers.

He couldn't have summed up my feelings better himself.

My opinion of A-Gonz goes up:

"I did what I always do," Gonzalez said. "We are in L.A., so Mickey Mouse stuff does go. ... Mickey Mouse is only an hour away. So, you know, it fits us. I did what I always do."
