Kyle Lohse's grumpy face

jerichoholicninja
“Not a whole lot of it was me,” said Lohse, who threw 100 pitches and allowed seven hits and three runs before exiting.

“When you’ve got an umpire that says your grumpy face is going to cost you some strikes, you’ve got issues. I wasn’t as consistent as I wanted to be but I made a lot of really good pitches and I guess I looked funny out there, and wasn’t going to get the calls.”

Lohse said Fairchild made the “grumpy face” comment to catcher Martin Maldonado after Nate Schierholtz smacked a 3-1 fastball for a two-run homer in the third inning that gave the Cubs a 3-0 lead. Lohse thought Fairchild missed some pitches that got the count to 3-1.

And when you consider how the game ended you have to wonder what Fairchild was up to yesterday.

Just have the catcher set up low and away and have him be late reaching up when a high fastball hits the ump in the grill. Then have the catcher say, 'oops sorry he crossed me up, but at least his face isn't grumpy.'

^^^ Love this and I don't understand why it doesn't happen more often. I'd do it to a smart tongued umpire without any qualms. Another one I'd be all for in the NL is instead of getting into a bean-ball fest after being hit intentionally by an opposing pitcher..walk said pitcher in his next atbat then fling the ball over to first base a couple of times in a row with your 1b applying the hardest tag possible on a couple of pickoff attempts.
